  • In this video, we will speak about EPIRB stowed onboard the vessel.
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon, known as EPIRB, is a part of the GMDSS systems.
I want to explain my understanding of how EPIRB and the COSPAS SARSAT System work.
Why do we need an EPIRB?
EPIRB its a critial safety device onboard a vessel which is used as a distress alerting system, indicating to Search and Rescue authorities both the identity and position of a vessel, which is in grave and imminent danger and requires immediate assistance.
We will delve into what marine EPIRB is and its operational principles. Ill describe how EPIRB works , different EPIRB categories , key components and modes of operations.
We'll explore what COSPAS SARSAT is and compare the operational principles of the LEOSAR and GEOSAR systems. Ill describe how this systems help to found your vessel position location.
You will grasp the fundamental differences, advantages, and drawbacks of EPIRB's functioning with each of these systems.
A comparative analysis of each system will be presented, providing you with a clear overview of how the system operates in general.
We will also review regulatory documents and requirements applicable to EPIRB (SOLAS and IMO Circulars), covering all the essential information needed for a comprehensive understanding of how this system functions overall.
This information will be useful for everyone working at sea, especially for future navigators and current officers aboard merchant vessels.
So What is an EPIRB and HOW Does Its Work?

Appreciateyour education efforts. One will never know enough how important it is to have a distress beacon on board.
Just a bit disappointed that you didn’t credit the European Union (Galileo/SAR) for the reuse of their “reaching you faster” video
