I would make dual walls, the inner one being higher than the outer and a deeper channel between them leading the way for the lava away from roads and away from grindavik or even causing a flowback.
Thanks for your informative update Roman. I really appreciate you continuing to follow these amazing eruptions. This one is really spectacular! Watching the earth rip open like this is astonishing. We tend to think of land as being really solid and sure. There is nothing solid or sure about this! Cheers from Australia 😎
Thank you Roman, think I’ve said this before but it is so terrifyingly beautiful. The guys that built the protection walls etc done a marvellous job in such a short time really. Please keep safe all people and animals in Iceland 🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
Thank you Roman, it was hard to see from all the footage, just how far south the lava has gone, It is amazing how those walls have protected the town, power plant and the lagoon.
When you look at your own home city and calculate where 3.2 Km might be, when the ground just opens, … that is pretty mind blowing. I walk 240m to work. And that’s just the fissures, not the flow. (I can only reply, not comment, for some reason.)
But why? It seems that at this point, what can really be done to avoid the inevitable? It is just endangering lives to keep going out there and raising the berms.
My best wishes to those like you who depend on tourism. But safety first. My empathy to farmers, fishermen and businessmen, residents and merchants of Grendavick. But above all to the heavy machinery operators and truck drivers and the engineers and geologists behind who are telling them where to build defenses.
many thanks Roman for your always precised up dated information this active volcanic area seems now impossible to leave in and Grindavik's fate very sad...
Thankyou for your comprehensive, up-dates on these fantastical scenes of nature in its rawest, most powerful form. To see liquid rock erupting from our own planet is astounding, thanks.
it's going to take awhile for that lava to cool over the lost road.....I guess it depends on how thick that flow is.....but, these engineers and workers are amazing...they'll find a solution that amazes us....
i understand the building of the berms to protect the blue lagoon area, but why all the work around Grundavik? It is not like they are going to allow to live people there in this century.
Good point. If the volcano keeps erupting, eventually there will be a higher plain of dry lava equal to the height of the berm, therefore the berm will have to be built again, even higher.
I sure hope more people will become *"**#Patron_Members**"* , So you can get a much better drone. And help you with your gas expenses. The current price of gas is very expensive. You do a lot of traveling for your excellent Channel and *"**#Thank_You**"* 👌
These eruptions are more like a pressure cooker coming up to pressure. Pressure builds in the holding chamber until the pressure and volume are enough to lift up the overlying mass and open the magma path to the surface. There is rapid magma flow until the pressure drops and the overlying mass drops slowly pinching off flow to the surface. When enough pressure and volume reaccumulates in the holding chamber the process is repeated.
Wow! A curtain of fire! The wind could cause problems for the capital if it blows toward it. We can see the mid-atlantic rift zone, usually deep under the ocean, right on the island in all its splendor!
Sinking? Good grief. It sounds like Grindavik is doomed. Like another commentor said, why bother trying to save the town at this point? They have put forth a valiant effort, but really, what more can be done?😔
One day Lava gonna erupt inside Grindavic. The town has already been uninhabitable with frequent earth quakes and polluted air. What’s the point to keep it? For fishing business?
Is this the same fissure that erupted back in the 60s or 70s? I remember seeing tv footage of a spectacular night eruption all slong the mountains abovr a town, possibly grindavik?
If it just keeps doing this every few months there is no chance of saving this town. You can only build barriers so tall. Every time it rear upset just going to keep stacking on top of itself.
Exactly. Not to be a debbie-downer, but there comes a point where these efforts become useless. The town is lost. Nature will win every time. Just give it long enough.
Hawaii always has those lava flows, And destroying houses. I wonder why they cannot build walls ❓️🔥❓️ I know the 🌋 Hawaii lava flow starts off moving quickly. But the Hawaii lava slows down and crawls on the way to the ocean. So far, since you've been taping volcanoes, the lava hasn't hit any buildings. It was nice how they moved that one Small historic house and placed it elsewhere. 👌
What are they going to do, keep building higher and higher and higher as the lava continually dries and piles up? Grindavik will eventually be tightly surrounded by a mountain of tall berms and hardened lava.
The people who designed and built the berms to protect Grindavik, Svartsengi, and Blue Lagoon are the heroes of this series of eruptions.
I would make dual walls, the inner one being higher than the outer and a deeper channel between them leading the way for the lava away from roads and away from grindavik or even causing a flowback.

Thank you Roman, it was hard to see from all the footage, just how far south the lava has gone, It is amazing how those walls have protected the town, power plant and the lagoon.
That lava map is mind blowing. The shere size of the lava spread is astonishing when seen in this context.

Thanks a very good explanation of where the lava flowed….
I can see why they continue to raise the heights of the berms. Thank you for covering this.
😁
Prolonging the inevitable

Thanks! for your time and sensible reporting, Roman.
Thank you for your excellent coverage of the eruption.

Thank you so much for this. This was the best summary of what has happened with your video and diagrams. Well done.
Excellent footage and more importantly, information. Thank you for keeping us up to date.
Thank you for the update ❤
Thank you for the explanations of the eruption. i really appreciated the maps too.
Thanks for the updates man.

Thanks for your informative Update! 😊
Thanks for this video... far from you we still can follow this amazing event. Courrage
I love your updates, thank you
Thank you for your great and thorough coverage of this latest eruption! Blessings to you!

Thank you your update and your narrative. I am thankful the walls got built and were strategically placed. Stay safe. God bless you.

Very informative update. Our thoughts are with the people of Iceland.
it's going to take awhile for that lava to cool over the lost road.....I guess it depends on how thick that flow is.....but, these engineers and workers are amazing...they'll find a solution that amazes us....
They say they can start building new roads on the hot lava when it's three days old.
Excellent presentation! Ty
Thanks so much for the maps!
Love the overhead shots. Always appreciate your work! We love splatter cones. 🌋
Amazing progression this has been, thank you for your update ..

Seems like Iceland has beautiful volcanic eruptions - without ash but white smoke and beautiful streams of lava.
Not all are like this...we have explosive ones too, under the glaciers. Rememeber Eyjafjalljokull
Oh we have bad ones also. Don't you remember Eyjafjallajökull volcano that interrupted flights all over the world?
Also has big volcanoes with ash that can disrupt European air traffic.
Wow that is powerful!!!😮😮

Awesome update, lots of info ty!
I think it was the plastic insulation on the electricity poles which was burning, Radiant heat from the lava is more than enough to ignite it.
Wow thanks for your beautiful videos ❤️

Walls of lava saved the town, but who lives in that uninhabitable town? Mother nature will win in the end.
Truth. At this point, the efforts are futile.
Thank you
Wow! A curtain of fire! The wind could cause problems for the capital if it blows toward it.

Is your house threatened by the volcano? Thnx GutnTog !!
🙏.... remember to Pray incessantly for your safety and well being.......
From what I heard some other volcanologist that the town is still in danger not only by lava but by sinking
Sinking? Good grief. It sounds like Grindavik is doomed. Like another commentor said, why bother trying to save the town at this point? They have put forth a valiant effort, but really, what more can be done?😔
Looks wild around Grindavik!
Hard to believe the earth doesnt run out of lava! Wow!
That's what earth/ ground, mountains and valleys are made of...a rich source from the core of Earth
Thankyou 🙏🏻💞
One day Lava gonna erupt inside Grindavic. The town has already been uninhabitable with frequent earth quakes and polluted air. What’s the point to keep it? For fishing business?
For its 800 years of existence between eruptions and excellent natural harbor, but maybe not for much longer.
Correct. Why keep this up after all of this time and continuing eruptions?
Is this the same fissure that erupted back in the 60s or 70s? I remember seeing tv footage of a spectacular night eruption all slong the mountains abovr a town, possibly grindavik?
So was it radiant heat that burnt the power pole? Just a river of red hot lava toasting the wood?
Hi Roman, do you have info about the NRTF Station? Did the helixhouse survived so far? tnx in advance🙂

Will be watching solar, flares. Thanks for sharing.
Do we know how far the lava has travelled overnight?
Awesome video! So "fell" in Icelandic is pronounced as "futt"??
Is that Mr. Hankey making a surprise visit @10:29? 😁
Oo good luck and take care
Don't understand the title. Eastern road is still open, isn't it?
Without those walls the town would be gone by now! It's amazing they managed it in the time they had.
Good night be safe always
I didnt know eruptions could go for so long
soon the walls need to be 500 meters high!!!
plus the lost power lines too, will have to be fixed....
Praying for all there.
big one!
Good Good
Very unfortunate about the power line. I have to say they worked hard to protect the town.
Mother Nature is somewhat being controlled. Hopefully it will not be in vain in the future if it continues to erupt!🙏
It is inevitable that nature wins in the long run.
Hawaii always has those lava flows, And destroying houses.

Odd that the flow is in such a straight line.
It's the rift that is a straight line.
I'm sure glad no volcanoes are in Montana yet.
😻😻😻😻😻
The Dutch are the masters of the Ocean and the Icelanders masters of Lava.
Don't get carried away with ego.
that telephone pole scene looks like a hollywood animation
Iceland is sitting on a perfect (biggest) Lava bloom. I’m sorry the city is being damaged. I have heard of fissures but I did not believe, now I do.
There has been lots of footage of fissures, so I am not sure why you would not have believed.
Maybe they could dig a small ditch to divertimento lava to the ocean?
Saved it? The town is built on top of an active volcano. Sorry to the town and its former inhabitants.
wow wow wow
😱😧
Proof that WALLS DO WORK!
What are they going to do, keep building higher and higher and higher as the lava continually dries and piles up? Grindavik will eventually be tightly surrounded by a mountain of tall berms and hardened lava.
@@jamiebraswell5520 They went by the historical record of lava levels and decided it to last 100+ years making it someone else's problem.
Much more liquid and fast streaming lava this eruption!
