Marlon Brando and Yul Brynner in the same film. The world has no idea what it is lacking when actors of this calibre no longer exist in cinema. I’m always amazed how far you can go down the list of actors from the 60s and 70s and still they are so much better than what gets served to audiences today.
Indeed - saw Brynner West End live. Same astounding stage presence as fellow countryman "Old Galoshes" Nureyev who I interviewed & photographed & shared Charlie Chaplin film festival with. The absolutely STARK near-theatre of films like this.. like Pawnbroker of Rod Steiger....never to be seen again. Americans REALLY do this style of cinema PERFECTLY.
This was a much better movie than I thought it would be. Too bad the quality is so low because the black and white photography is outstanding (it was nominated for an academy award). Good dialogue and the filming on the ship was pretty amazing . Today will have been all CGI. I was impressed that Brando gives a fully committed performance with none of the lackadaisical attitude he often displayed as his career went on. As great as an actor he was, I always find myself watching his eyes to see if I can catch him reading his lines that were often placed around the set because he was too lazy to memorize them. I’m struck how Yul Brynner as good as he was, didn’t bother to try to do a German accent. And I had no idea how beautiful Janet Margolin was at 22 years old. Thanks for the upload
Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando also starred together in 'Mutiny on the Bounty'. Still one of my favourites and i reccommend to anyone reading this comment.
Two German actors also took part in this movie! Martin Benrath ( man with dark hair and a small scar in his face) and Hans Christian Blech ( man with blonde or white hair and blue eyes) Very good movie, thank you for uploading!
There were so many twists and turns in this plot it was like a maze and I couldn't find my way out of it. I've never seen of this film before; it was good to see Marlon Brando before he balooned to Marlon Expando. I wonder if Jack Nichlson's gone the same way now he's retired. He was pigging out on junk food the last I heard of him......
One of Marlon Brando’s most underrated, and most intriguing films. He looks fit and enthusiastic, with an excellent German accent. The drama is heightened by Conrad Hall’s superb black-and-white cinematography, and fine direction by Bernhard Wicki. The film boasts a good cast, led by Yul Brynner and the always reliable Trevor Howard. One of the big folk tales of filmdom is how horrible Brando was to work with on “Mutiny On the Bounty.” If such were the case, how come Howard and producer Aaron Rosenberg worked with him this second time? Just wondering.
This is the best of Yul and Marlon. And whatching it I understand: Brand's performance is way to obvious inspiration for infamous Schtirliz from Russian serial '17 moments of the spring'.
I'm glad to see this film being shown. This is a great spy thriller. Was it initially successful? Spy films then were supposed to be guns, gadgets and girls--all very well, but not all the time. Did one of the OUTER LIMITS people do the photography? The photography and art direction are certainly first class.
A excellent Movie, Trevor Howard ( somewhat briefly, but still top draw) Yul Brenner and Marlon Brando and a strong supporting cast..As they say, ' They don't make em like that anymore'
Wireless transmission seems to start with "CQ CQ CQD" (General Stations, General Stations, General Stations Distress)... but beyond that it's just a blur to me... Adds a lot to the Ending to understand as it seems to add to the uncertainty facing them and leaves us open questions... Would love to know what the rest of the Transmission is... Ship's Name and Location perhaps? ...or gibberish... Regardless, the film is an Excellent Maritime Story. Bruno Biava⚓
At 15:02 Crain is in Calcutta. At 15:03 he is in Japan and is pretending to be Keil and is in with the German navy. Can anyone tell me how that happened?
this really is quite the movie ... the character actors... !! so good the unpressured pace. characters of depth and dimensin,,,, a junkie doctor, alcoholic captain { the mandatory minge was a bit annoying . really ...anyway what a great movie ,,, and they made and repaired things with blocks of wood and those dri/lls whatwere thhe called auger drills the old ways was great
I'm lost. A Swedish ship, full of Germans, picked up American shipwrecked men and a Jewish girl with a German british spy aboard setting off explosives!!?? Explain please ?
Hi He is NOT setting off explosives but DISARMING them so the German captain can’t scuttle the ship if falling into British hands, as the British want the rubber in the cargo hold!
It is a German ship named "Ingo", they disguised the ship as Swedish ship "Christina" when they were worried about being seen by allied warships. Sweden was neutral during WWII.
What a dull movie, no wonder it was a disaster at the box office when it was released. And Brando muffling in his German accent is pitiful. Same manneurism in all his films. Terrible, overrated actor.
It was a somewhat good movie till 1:19 . Then, the Jewish producers had to ruin it with the Jewish thing . This movie is supposed to be about shuttling a ship.
WATCHING THESE OLD SCHOOL MOVIES HAVE A REAL NO NONSENSE SIMPLY BLACK AND WHITE PURE RELAXING VIBE FEELING ABOUT THEM DIRECT TO THE FACT'S OF LIFE AT THE TIMES !!!!!! I only watched this for the pleasure of seeing Trevor Howard fir fuve minutes
So true😊❤🎉
Trevor Howard made both look like beginners!
I disagree. There are great actors today also, many of them.

It's a shame that this film lost big at the box office and was unfairly panned by critics. They didn't know how good they had it.
"I was blackmailed by a Britisher, to the strains of Mozart" I love this dialogue.
This has to be one of Marlon Brando's best films .
Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando also starred together in 'Mutiny on the Bounty'.

Love it so much!
What a great Film. Beautifully crafted. Expertly shot, dripping in drama. A treat for all

😉👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Excellent film - thank you for uploading! The dialogue is superb: the banter between Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando is priceless...
About 3 years after Mutiny on the Bounty
Great film & plot, cast & Trevor Howard never lets you down.

Thank you for the upload. 💯💯💯
Acting and dialogue at the highest level

"superb black-and-white cinematography" as learned from the German immigrants.
Such great movie and yet it flopped. Shot in real ship must be technically challenging with excellent cinematography. Thanks for sharing it.
Leading Man Marlon Brando, the Proverbial Anti-Hero Yul Brynner and the ever-Antagonistic Trevor Howard. 10mins in and I can’t take my eyes off!
loved this film as a youngster but it had come to my attention many years later that Wicki was the director as the film was pure Hollywood
Excellent- Thanks for uploading
Better than i was told back in the day
Good movie. A war movie that doesn’t idolize war is worth watching! 👍🏼👍🏼
This is the best of Yul and Marlon.
And whatching it I understand: Brand's performance is way to obvious inspiration for infamous Schtirliz from Russian serial '17 moments of the spring'.
Great movie! A bit hard to watch at times, and a bit too long for my sensibilities, in these modern times, but I'll give it a 10!
What.
👍👍👍Thanks. I reallly enjoyed this movie!👍👍👍
Me too
Great film! Thanks for sharing!
Trevor Howard Yul Brynner and Marlon Brando. Super movie.
Ohh yeah 👍
Excellent film, really enjoyed it thanks.
Never be another like Trevor Howard. Never.
He was a great actor.
Also enjoyed him in The Third Man.

He delivers every time. 'Clouded Yellow' is also on TH-cam these days.
Brilliant script action, great spy movie with WW2 effects
It's the king and I 😂 On board a ship 😂😂
It's Mr Christian and captain Blythe meeting again 😂😂
Tough script, especially for 1965. Very gritty and sad.

Captain Blythe is back 😂😂
Great acting all around. Thank you.
Excellent actors ❤
An extremely interesting film.
Mr Christian On board a more modern ship 😂😂
Excellent film. Enjoy!
Suprised howard worked with brando again after feuding with him in the bounty movie!

LOL…Bradbury Building in downtown Los Angeles does excellent stand-in duty for “Calcutta”.
Black & white any day awesome 🙌
Another great Jerry Goldsmith score.
Great cast with great voices 👍
Eric Braeden aka Hans Gudegast is behind Brando in the dining room scenes...
Brando, Brynner - good show
A excellent Movie, Trevor Howard ( somewhat briefly, but still top draw) Yul Brenner and Marlon Brando and a strong supporting cast..As they say, ' They don't make em like that anymore'
Saw it at the movies when I was about 11. It was advertised as a "Spy Movie" so I thought it would have Aston Martin's with ejector seats.
Fletcher Christian and Captain Bligh are a lot friendlier in this lol
Soooo good!
What a Cast!
Brando is excellent in this disturbing movie.
Janet Margolin
What a beauty
Absolutly fabulously pretty
Was she in “take the money and run”?
Is this a "rerun" of a similar movie about a German ship delivering a cargo through enemy waters?
Wireless transmission seems to start with "CQ CQ CQD" (General Stations, General Stations, General Stations Distress)... but beyond that it's just a blur to me...

The bird is a common Myna (Acridotheres tristis)
Bravo! Bravo!
Just 7 years later he’d star in the Godfather, crazy
Danke fuer diesen Film. Hans C. Blech, der DR. în SO WEIT DIE FUESSE TRAGEN
Did they make it? What about the rubber?!
Was he sending out an SOS at the end?
That is quite a movie. Thank you.
Nice movie!
Brando gave it his down the banks in interview in Paris. It must've counted for him to do so. Just my thought.😢
Top film.
Hi
LOL! This is where Spielberg got his ‘Amon Götz’ for ‘Schindler’s List’: Brando!😮
At 15:02 Crain is in Calcutta. At 15:03 he is in Japan and is pretending to be Keil and is in with the German navy. Can anyone tell me how that happened?
Good pic
فلم حربي جميل جدا
Who was Janet Margolin ?
Ramesis 😂on board 😂😂
Special Photographic Effects by L.B. Abbott, a.s.c. and Emil Kosa, Jr. Late in the day for black-and-white.
absolute masterpiece and one of the few movies that dares to show the truth about the atrocious acts of some of the allies... 🔥 🎦 🔥
You a nazi?
Id love to have seen Brando play James Bond
24:32 - i totally thought this guy was swiping his phone. i was like, what?

The Bradbury Building? Hardly a slice of Calcutta architecture.
Have this in a DVD and it's a decent watch just for Brando's interpretation of a German accent. Never really liked the 60's B&W look though.
👍😊
Why, in the end, Brando has facial hair and Yul B. None?
Wally Cox - Tin Tin?
Onbelieveble great Actors!. Whst s Juwel af movie
Was that a hand held windows device at1:47:30?
It is a "Number Slide Puzzle".
deary mee thats the funniest comment I have seen for a while.
28.25 did anybody see the guy swiping his mobile phone?
Nice try, but no soup for you!
it is not a mobile phone it is a kind of game
He is playing a sliding puzzle.
I used to have one of those in the '60s, the puzzle game, that is. They were quite common then.
Should be in colour
Good movie 😂
Confused !
Are you drinking or smoking?

One of my all-time favorite spy movies, together with Triple Crossed: Yul Brynner? Trevor Howard? - You name it!
Thank you Owen and Toosly.
На немцев совсем не похожи...

..little survivor…🎉
Brando is wearing a three button single breasted jacket with peak lapels. Interesting.
Gizmo........2/18/25.............
The film didn't do well upon its first release and it was a financial disaster.

This movie is supposed to be about shuttling a ship.
This film is a mess. 1:24:10 No nooky for Brando tonight.
Should i keep watching?
Too complex for you ??
@@helmuthj.zotter7272 Very.
Your angle is hardly educated
MOVIE FILLED WITH LOTS OF DIALOGUE AS TO MANY GREAT ACTORS
Good movie. Brando is over rated tho. He always comes across as if he's in a high school drama class.
