Geo Reinecke The only future Zeppelin members on this recording are Plant on Vocals and Bonham on drums. Both Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were doing session work at the time.

Page joined The Yardbirds after a brief time with The Mickey Finn. He replaced Paul Samwell-Smith on bass, but switched promptly to lead accompanying Jeff Beck, and Chris Dreja moved from rhythm to bass. Jimmy was the longest lasting of Yardbirds' enigmatic guitar-slingers, even carrying on as 'The New Yardbirds' for a couple of Scandinavian shows, and Dreja also soon left.
That name went down like a led zeppelin, so a studio producer and musician associate John-Paul Jones was asked to come in to take Dreja's place. A good recruitment really, since Jones could also play keyboards and mandolin among other things, and could add considerable studio capabilities.
That may have appeared a little of a 'shambolic' mix of seasoned musicians from the offset, Plant & Bonham mates from a Brummie scene, and comparatively amateur local chancers - but the chemistry worked great!

This is actually Robert Plant solo before the Led Zeppelin days, it's on his compilation Sixty-Six to Timbuktu.
The Band of Joy (also known as Robert Plant and the Band of Joy) are a rock band from England. Various lineups of the group performed from 1965 to 1968 and from 1977 to 1983. Robert Plant revived the band's name in 2010 for a concert tour of the United States and Europe.
The band is notable for including two musicians, Robert Plant and John Bonham,[1] who went on to join Led Zeppelin; and, to a lesser degree, because the band's one-time roadie was Noddy Holder, who later was in the band Slade.

This wasn't Led Zeppelin and it's not 1974. It's from 1967 and from a band Robert Plant fronted named Band of Joy. I mean come on! Does that sound like Jimmy Page to you?

@Maguirearch hola,me encantaría saber más de lo que expresas si es que es cierto de la tal banda llamada Band of Joy y quienes son Plants Birmingham Band. La verdad es que ésta interpretación es rarísima y no es que sea mala,mas bien todo lo contrario.
@regperron agree, this is a young Robert Plant. sound like 69...and Page didn't sound like that by 73-74. I'm actually thinking thats not Page either. Sounds nothing like him...I think this is Band of Joy. Who I know did this song. I've read nearly all the Zep set lists, never saw this....its not even live, that was studio.
@kahlan4182 I know, I have the CD, It's a 2 disc set and it's pretty good, It's Robert Plant before Zeppelin, Sixty Six to Timbuktu, It does have some good tracks on it.

There's something so hypnotic and psychedelic about this rendition that it's basically a different song, which is awesome. Hats off to Band of Joy for making such a unique version.

Once and for all: this is not Led Zeppelin and it is not 1974. This is Robert Plant's pre-Zeppelin band called The Band Of Joy, from about '67.

additional factoid - Plant resurrected this cover on his Dreamland album. Though he did it a lot 'darker'.
That figures...I actually stopped here just to hear how badly Page was going to butcher this tune and ended up being impressed with how tasteful the accompaniment was.

Great 1967 demo by Band of Joy featuring Plant's great vocal plus great work from Bonham. Kevin Gammond does some nice guitar work. Also featuring Paul Lockie on bass and Chris Brown on organ.
It is NOT Led Zeppelin. This is a Band of Joy demo from 1967, with Plant singing, Bonham on drums. Plant included it in his best of album, "Sixty Six To Timbuktu".

Allen Doss that kids voice isn’t nearly as gruff and bluesy as Plants. Shrieking is about the only thing they have in common..which is stilll...incomparable.
@@goku5511 I agree there voices are different, but I honestly wouldn't say Robert is a better singer than Josh, as far as pure technique goes Josh has better pitch, vibrato, and overall more control, but Robert Plant is obviously a legend
Braydon Barnum better pitch? I can see that. Better vibrato? That’s a stretch. Check out Zepps BBC recordings. Plant did crazy things on the mic. And as far as overall control? I think the guy with over a dozen albums under his belt all with different sounds and techniques claims that prize. No doubt they are both amazing singers. I personally just do not see the similarities others see. I think Josh sounds much more like Ian Gillian. All in all these are just my humble opinions I’m no expert.

This is not Led Zeppelin. This is Plant and Bonhum's old band called the Band Of Joy. In 1974, Robert's voice changed, and he had to get a vocal surgery due to his high screams.

Not Zep, not live, not 74, not a Hendrix composition, not a good recording ( sounds like it was recorded off the ' Solo Projects' bootleg vinyl that has been played countless times). It IS a very cool tune, and there were some nice pics of the band

Thank you for this, there are still confused accounts on the BOJ and Hobbstweedle. Plant said somewhere it was Jimmy and Dreja who went and see him. It must have been a great music time in the Black Country in those days.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. This is NOT live, this is earlier than 1974, and it is NOT Led Zeppelin. This is a studio recording of a group Robert Plant played with before Led Zeppelin.
This sends chills. Early raw Plant sounds incredible. I see why Page scooped him up. Page said in an interview, he actually fell in love with Plant, after the first listen. He also said that he was thinking of firing him because he went totally out of control at the early gigs. I think it's safe to say, we're glad he didn't. :-)
Jimmys first choice was Steve Marriott and he turned Jimmy down and didn't want to leave the small faces. Imagine what those 2 would have done for music?

amd64alan..hate to say it but Hendrix's version is rather dull compared to this. Jimi had a voice that was monotone and no range. Plant had an incredibly powerful voice...he was an 18-yr old kid when he sang this
