We were whispering for about 4 minutes into the video in till we felt comfortable enough to speak normally as we explained in the video. When doing this you have to make sure you are safe at all times and no i’m not talking about being safe from the owners or police, but theirs a bunch of other people who has interest in abandoned places with bad intentions. We were inside a huge abandoned mall all by ourselves not knowing what to expect or WHO to expect and anyone else would have done the same. In till you can relate yourself you wouldn’t understand. I remember going to this Mall right after getting married. We eventually moved to the Philadelphia suburbs for a job transfer but my heart will always be in Pittsburgh.
This is so heartbreaking. I have fond memories of Century III Mall. As a teen in the 80’s this was the place to be. My friends and I used to take two buses here before we started driving because this mall had so much to offer. It’s such a shame.
I remember this mall around Christmas time in the early 2000s, having to hold my dad's hand so that I don't get lost in the crowds, riding the holiday train and seeing the pretty lights. Even after Christmas, we'd still go and have fun. I'd always make a wish in the big blue fountain. As a tween, I did all of my school shopping in the Macy's. (We'd ALWAYS enter through there.) I got my middle school graduation dress from the Deb's store too. Im 24 now and seeing it like this makes me feel bad because It was such a huge part of my early life, but I'm glad you all made this video. Thank you so much.
These dead mall videos are addictive. It’s sad and depressing, but I can’t help watching them. Perhaps to reminisce about better and happier times. In my lifetime the best of times were my childhood in the 70s, college years of the 80s, and the prosperous times of the mid to late 90s. Ironically those were also the hey days of the mall era. Everything started going downhill around 2000 and the bottom completely fell out during the Great Recession. Despite there being plenty of jobs now things still haven’t recovered. I don’t know if we will ever see the flamboyant times of the 80s ever again. It was a very happy and optimistic time especially in the first half of the 80s. It takes an extremely high level of good feelings and optimism for developers to build huge malls like this. Everyone who lived through the Great Recession and the Covid pandemic are too traumatized to have those feelings today. Kind of like the generation that lived through the Great Depression. Not trusting the future.
I worked as Mall security there in the early 90s and that Mall was thriving back then. This was the place to go !! They had a WWF tour, The Stanley CUP was there and many celebs / Sports figures visited. Lots of memories there, Kind of sad to see it in this condition.
It was very eerie How quiet was in there. You could hear everything. Water dripping, your own foot steps even your own breathing. I spent about an hour in there. That was the mall grew up going to. It was heartbreaking when I went in! I’m glad I got to see it.
It's super sad to see a mall go down hill like that one. It's also scary because someone could be in the mall and you might not know until they come out of some store and hurt you so you have to keep your guard up in abandoned places like that.
I have never been to either one of those malls I was from the south hills of Pittsburgh so I went to Century Three and the South Hills Village mall is actually still open. @@dannydavideos8106
As a teenager in the 80's, Century III was the go to mall. I've followed it's demise through the years & it's so heartbreaking. Watching this video brought back so many memories of shopping there. I could picture some of the stores as you walked through there.
Century III used to be such an incredible mall. Sucks that people have no heart and are willing to destroy what is not theirs. A couple quick facts that I feel like I should mention: 1. The reason there are sandbags is because while the mall closed in 2019 due to a water main burst (blame Moonbeam Capitol for that, they caused it), JCPenney didn't close until October 2020. 2. The film set was set up in what used to be the Montgomery Wards wing. They left around 1986. That wing's been abandoned the longest, since the 2000s, hence the walls. 3. You know that round circle in the carpet where the Christmas tree was? That used to be the mall's double-decker carousel. It was actually kinda cool lookin'. Too bad it was removed around 2017.
I feel that abandoned malls represents life in general, once they happened to be clean vibrant, socially happening, a place where dad's and sons brought shiny news things boys had first time nervous date's with a beautiful female. Now there old and no one visits and it's unkempt. The moral of the story is nothing last forever.
I remember always saving my allowance and asking my parents to drive here to shop back in the 80’s / 90’s. There were so many stores. It was always a treat when they’d take us. Especially around Christmas when they had everything decorated. It felt magical to my siblings and me.
Another huge factor in this malls downfall was that it is built on an old slag dump site like you mentioned. Caused many issues with the malls foundation over the years. There had been talks of the mall closing for many years before Moonbeam ran the ship completely into the ground. I grew up in Clairton/Elizabeth PA and spent much of my childhood at this mall. All my early yearly pictures with my siblings were taken here at the old photo studio they had. Also, mom always got her haircut at the Pennys salon. So much nostalgia
I remember in the 80's, there weren't many shops on the 3rd floor. Mostly 2nd and 1st floors. The food court still can't be beat, my favorite was Taco Tinas.
Although I grew up in northern Michigan, and have lived in central Florida for 25 years now, my girlfriend of 9 years is from western PA, and spent a good amount of time in Pittsburgh, including Century III a handful of times. We’ve been back up there a few times and spent a bunch of time in the city, gone to some Pirates games, been up to Punxsutawney, to a few museums, and to Kennywood. But we also both grew up in the 80’s and 90’s immersed in mall culture, and are fascinated /saddened with dead malls. Century III is one of the kings of this, and although we didn’t go inside this mall, we did drive around the perimeter roads, and underneath the parking structure. So surreal! I can only imagine seeing this place in its heyday. My mainstay mall in Michigan, while not yet abandoned barely has 5-6 shops left in it now. I was at it in its opening week in 1991, when it was an absolute palace, and it’s so sad to me to see in the state that it is now. Just like Century III.
I know this may seem random, but thank you thank you thank you for getting the sound level right on your video. About 95% of people who would post a video where they are whispering would then forget to make sure the sections with music wouldn't blast out the eardrums of viewers. So, I appreciate it.
Thank you this video is so beautifully done to give this once amazing mall the final justice it deserves... especially after the treatment it received from moon beam finical and the damage low life's and dirt bags have done for no good reason at all.....enjoyed your wonderful walk thru and not rushing to document it for history since it's scheduled for tear down later this summer .....sad it could not have been sold and saved for mix uses a gentleman tried to offer moon beam cash offer but moon beam refused and filed bankruptcy to hold on to let it get dangerous and needing tearing down ....you folks did a wonderful job so now folks can truly see this once wonderful amazing experience in this mall
The JCPenney is just abandoned, it left the mall in late 2020 which was the last store to close on the property. It was fine after that, but when vandals and scrappers made their way into the mall, they made their entry into JCPenney by smashing the glass and went on a full rampage to trash the place and try to steal any copper material from the ceiling or walls. The buzzing sound of when the power was still on gives off that eerie vibe making it look like the building is still in use. Good thing you both walked out of there, you never know. Thank you for posting, I was going to comment this 11 months ago but forgot. But now that the mall will be demolished soon, it's sad after all these years of memories to its eventual closure and demise of vandalism and water damage.
One thing I notice about a lot of these dead malls is that they use those old 1970s era ugly ceiling panels. You know, the kind that leave an ugly stain if it gets wet. If malls ever become a thing again it would be best to not use those ugly ceiling panels. It really cheapens the aesthetics.
I was 9 years old when that mall first opened. I remember it well. Hung out there in my teens. Spent lots of money at NRM and Camelot music. Lots of memories of that place growing up. I could go on and on. I never imagined I would see it in this condition.
Unfortunately a lot of the stores that are not obvious were occupied by some local mom and pops for years before the mall closed. You would have to look back on old videos to 100% determine many of these stores or ask someone that probably worked at the mall for years. I lived in Pittsburgh for a decade and used to visit here often. We moved before the mall closed for good. The comic book shop, a massage place and a vape place were a few of the last in lines to hold on.
The “Italian” place was Italian village pizza, and he “nom nom nom” place was Charlie’s cheesesteaks JC Penny’s was the last store to close in the mall, and was open for over a year after the rest of the mall was closed off…the sandbags were out there to keep water from running into the occupied store from the abandoned mall area
This is crazy. I am currently working in constructing a mall and just thinking that this may be possible gives me chills. Imagine all the work for nothing, just to erect a stone monument of consumerism/capitalism. Crazy.

1:15:20 was an Old Navy. They opened here as part of their rapid expansion in the late 90s but only lasted a few years. I worked at an Old Navy in a dying mall that looks identical, register setup and all. Crazy to see one abandoned like this.
Absolutely breaks my heart I used to go to that mall all the time when I was younger. I live in Morgantown West Virginia so it wasn't that far of a drive. I absolutely hate seeing things being abandoned And I don't understand why people feel the need to vandalize it It was so big and massive and busy all the time. It's just hard to understand thank you for taking the time to make a video.
That mall was so big, that we would park outside and go to Penney's and then get back in the car and find another parking spot down the opposite end at Sears because it was too exhausting for my mother to try to walk from end to end. I loved the video, but it also made me want to cry at times seeing what it has turned into.
The place you referred to as a Sprint store that also has the RCA sign was probably a Radio Shack. The last store with the film strip on the top and the bottom of the window and the stars on the carpet was definitely a Disney Store. I The black curtains were to hide interiors of empty stores from customers. Same with the colored windows (purple, orange, etc.) - it’s a film put on the window to cover the empty store.

I noticed on a lot of abandon places videos that they have Christmas stuff hanging or setup in places. Might mean that most places close down permanently during Christmas time which is messed up when you think about people losing there jobs during December
Yes malls traditionally have a rash of store closings just after the holidays. Always been that way. In retail if you can't make sales numbers from Black Friday until Christmas then very little chance you make it the rest of the year.
black friday to christmas is the most profitable time of the year. It's common for a shop to squeeze out the last of it's life around the holidays then jump ship knowing they would be unable to survive into the next year.
My family remembers Century III. It was one of their favorite places. It's sad to see people destroyed it for no good reason. RIP Century III. Very well made video and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Why is so sad or what does it matter that there was vandalism, when it’s abandoned, and will be demolished? Is a demolition company vandalizing when they cause complete and total destruction? Why not consider the property owners and management the first to vandalize the property. So silly.
7:22 at one point that was a dental office on the right. It seemed the 3rd floor stores changed the most. 10:50 on the right just before the doors was the second arcade, called Fun-N-Games II. The original Fun-N-Games was on the other side of the mall on the 1st floor. 11:33 way down the hallway on the end near the doors was a tuxedo rental store. Might have been called Tuxedo Junction. There was a third record store (there were three at one time) on the store by the far pillar 13:41 the corner eatery was Italian Village Pizza. It was very popular. Those funky decorative things were added years later. 14:48 that was a Cheesesteak store. The store on the right changed several times., I believe one was once and Orange Julius. In fact, the orange boarded store at the 15:54 mark was actually 2 stores, the Orange Julius on the left, a cookie store on the right. 16:35 straight up the stairs was Cutlery World. to the left was one of those costume jewelry stores, to the left of that was a uniform store (medical uniforms), and to the left of that was a Payless shoe store 17:44 There was a hair salon on the right of the jewelry store. To the right of that was a pizza place a very long time ago that was replaced by a Chick-Fil-A. Again, the round things were added years later. 19:03 the colorful store was a candy store. That store wasn't added until years later. That was actually a hallway that led behind the adjacent food stores on the left (cheesesteak, orange Julius, cookie store), towards the bathrooms and the exit 19:11 the stores you're looking at were mostly clothing stores and shoe stores. there was quite a bit of turnover in that corridor as well, with fashion stores moving in and out. There was a luggage store mixed in there at one time

@@DragonBallZ4Usmy memory is fuzzy but I think the pet store was at one time right outside of Sears (lower level) on the left (if you were walking out of Sears)… at another time it was further down that carpeted ramp, you go down a few steps and it was down there, kind of tucked away in the corner… not sure if it was the same pet store that just moved, and I could be totally wrong lol. But that’s what my memory is digging up Omg! I didn’t know that dentist used to be there 😳
When I was a teen in the eighties living in the pittsburgh burbs, this was the go to mall, we would were, our school jackets, Norwin Knights, we thought we were bad, and there would be other kids from rival high-schools,mt lebanon, Franklin regional, Hempfield High ect, in their school jackets, but our school had the best band then. What a great time it was to be Seinor in 82.😎
I worked at the Verizon Wireless store as a technician 25:33. My area was that square opening in the back. I was there when September 11th happened. Most people in the mall that day gathered at Radio Shack right below the food court and watched the events happening on the TVs
@@TH-camgirl20243Pretty much everyone in the mall, both customers and employees, were glued to the TVs. It was mostly employees though, there were very few shoppers that day. We would trade off between the store and Radio Shack so the store was not left unattended. Shortly After Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, we were told to go home. They closed the mall early for everyone's safety.

I live right by that mall, the reason the sandbags were only by jcpenney was because the jcpenney was still in business after the mall itself closed. the jcpenney ended up shutting down when covid happened
The fire yesterday caused lots of water damage in the portion of the mall near the "stacked escalators" and at the lower end of all the ramps in the 3 story section. From the photos posted by fiefighters, they seem to be concentrated in the area seen around 1:31:16 to 1:34:06 in your video.

2:11:14 This used to be an arcade called "Break away and play." that sign is still left over from when they closed early. It was small, but the games were really fun.

I almost wanted to cry just looking at the thumbnail. Even if it is dilapidated now, seeing the inside of it heavily TP'd and covered in garbage really made me sad. This was probably another super gorgeous mall people had fun at, and now it's another cemetary. RIP mall rat culture

I live not too far from this mall when I was little I can remember my parents taking me to the Disney store here, I loved it! It's a shame it's this way now.
The store with the 3 pillars at 1:00:42 was “Structure” in the 1990s. It was a men’s clothing chain store with an Express type of vibe. The pillars remained even after it became other stores, but that is what they are from. Structure locations featured some type of architectural element like that in their storefronts. Thanks for the video! This is seriously my whole childhood and it was a really special mall. There were ALWAYS events in there like car shows, cheerleading, local radio stations, other cool types of expos. You could literally feel Christmas in there. It was so beautiful in the 1990s. There was another fountain in one of the little nook areas right below the food court too. So many cool specialty stores at one time like Wicks N Sticks, World of Science, Nature’s Habitat, etc. And there was a pet store with animals you could interact with. The convenience store was Rave Girl at one time, my favorite store in 5th&6th grade. You could get anything there at one point. They had a Suncoast Video, 3 record stores, 2 book stores, and what mall has 2 leather apparel vendors, 2 Piercing Pagodas, Champs and Champs II, and Finish Line and Finish Line II all at the same time? Also, the store on the second floor to the right of the JCP entrance was a mini golf course at one point and I think a cheaper Pottery Barn type of place, but for a lot of years it was used for seasonal places like Spirit Halloween and things like that.
It's ashame what's happening to that place, excellent footage, am currently about fifteen minutes in watching, wow this place is on the fast track to meeting the same fate as Rolling Acres
I found this a year later... so im a little late to the party. My childhood and first jobs were at the mall. Im so sad to see it vandalised. The steaks place was a Charley's steak subs. 30:56 it was some kind of vape shop and convenience. 34:26 Jimmy jazz had alot of really cool urban/ street sneakers. 35:58 Remos, it was a pretty sweet suit shop. Anything in any color , you name it they had it. 36:55 next to remos was the hot topic. 38:41 back in the day there was a t mobile kiosk out front of the elevator on the bridge. 39:20 that fountain used to be amazing in all its former glory. 43:13 that was a jewelry store. I think a Jared's or zales. 44:10 they used to sell alot of perfumes and stuff. 51:10 they turned it into a fighting gym. 52:35 when you walk in it was the housewares department. If you keep going to right back corner there was a window coverings dept. Where the light was. 56:15 salon was a great place. I can't remember name of it... but the Phillip palusi was in the food court area. 58:43 the auntie Anne's 1:10:49 definitely the dicks sporting goods. It was really popular. 1:13:27 it was a store where it had alot of pop culture and video game stuff you could trade in for cash or buy. Anything from original Nintendo to videogames and etc. 1:14:23 bath and body works! 1:15:26 old navy and then it was bought out by PCX apparel. 1:16:03 Gloria jeans coffee shop. 1:17:06 there was a bunch of mini gumball machines in the hall way. My guess is they moved it in the store and someone vandalized it. 1:19:26 THIS was the New Dimension Comics store. They had comics, magic the gathering, games, minis, DICE, and action figures for sale. They used to be on the 3rd floor. I met my now husband there playing *Friday Night Magic* it was love at first sight. They are now at the waterfront in homestead still kicking butt! They had the first part as the gaming section. Where they held gaming events. 1:23:01 this was the actual store portion to buy stuff. The back walls were full of graphic novels and posters and all the gear you could think of to fulfill your nerd desires.
1:25:53 this used to have an ice cream place I think where there would be little tables and chairs. Yes the wooden pole and lights were there. It was a cute little place to just vibe in my mall rat days.
I live a ten minute drive from CIII Mall, have my whole life. Spent a lot of time here as a kid. It was a lot different of a place in the 2000s than it was in the 90s, and while I was born in ‘88, it was even more busy before that. Apparently it’s getting torn down (for real this time) in the next few days.
How sad! I grew up going here many times. I can still smell the Gloria Jeans coffee shop. My brother and I hated being taken shopping but were always promised we could stop and see the puppies they had at the Petland store. This was a beautiful mall not so long ago! Shame what Amazon did to the place.

I used to go to this mall when I lived in Pittsburgh. Would always get a coffee from Gloria Jean’s. Or a beer at the restaurant (it wasn’t a Mexican restaurant back then, but I can’t remember what the name was). The last time I went was 2010. I still have a New Dimension Comics bag full of Sandman comics from that trip. This was really sad to watch, but it brought back some good memories I haven’t thought about in a long time.
I've always found it sad to see power still running in abandoned places that are in such a disatrous shape. It's almost like as if the mall is fighting to its last breath.
And as of yesterday, Century III had a major fire, with the attendant water damage and the like. While it was already savaged by vandals and such, this means the condition of what remains will degrade rapidly. Looks like you got in just in time.
Century iii mall was one of my favorite malls to hang out at when I was in high school in the late 90s Shame on Moonbeam properties for letting the property become what it is today such an eyesore, and I really hope that moonbeam properties will be held accountable for neglecting such a what was a great property at one time
The first Thyssenkrupp building in Detroit was built back in 1919 and was from 30,000 to 2 million Square feet it has since been demolished and is completely used as a storage yard for all Chrysler vehicles, from 2012-2017 I got to work in the yard before the factory was demolished. It still had train tracks running in the building, it had 60 ton over head cranes. A 50 foot forklift parked outside, it had it's own medical center and had 7 floors. Part of Bat vs. Superman was filmed there and got to see the Batmobile roll by on a flat bed semi. How I knew it was the Batmobile, was it wasn't well tarped, it came by me with the tarp flapping in the wind and I could see the back four wheels.
I live near Pittsburgh and I've been there a few times back when it was open. The last time I went in 2017, I shot some footage, edited and uploaded a video documenting the state it was in mid 2017. Its both wild and sad to see what's happened to it since then. Vandals suck 😕
Someone else pointed out there was a fire there yesterday. It was right above the food court (3rd floor) at the old recruiting station space which is shown at the beginning of this video. They are gonna have to do something about old Century III Mall. Sad to see. A lot of memories there
Apart from the vandalism it held up well for 6 years of shutdown. Unfortunately you can already see water making its way in, if the building isnt heated or maintained anymore this will do alot more damage than some vandals smashing glas...

In my lifetime the best of times were my childhood in the 70s, college years of the 80s, and the prosperous times of the mid to late 90s. Ironically those were also the hey days of the mall era. Everything started going downhill around 2000 and the bottom completely fell out during the Great Recession. Despite there being plenty of jobs now things still haven’t recovered. I don’t know if we will ever see the flamboyant times of the 80s ever again. It was a very happy and optimistic time especially in the first half of the 80s. It takes an extremely high level of good feelings and optimism for developers to build huge malls like this. Everyone who lived through the Great Recession and the Covid pandemic are too traumatized to have those feelings today. Kind of like the generation that lived through the Great Depression. Not trusting the future.
I worked as Mall security there in the early 90s and that Mall was thriving back then. This was the place to go !! They had a WWF tour, The Stanley CUP was there and many celebs / Sports figures visited. Lots of memories there, Kind of sad to see it in this condition.

It was very eerie How quiet was in there. You could hear everything. Water dripping, your own foot steps even your own breathing. I spent about an hour in there. That was the mall grew up going to. It was heartbreaking when I went in! I’m glad I got to see it.
Yes, I can still smell the coffee from Gloria Jean's. This was a beautiful mall not so long ago.

I worked in the food court from 2015 until my employer closed shop in 2017. It was a depressing experience to watch the mall circle the drain.

As a teenager in the 80's, Century III was the go to mall. I've followed it's demise through the years & it's so heartbreaking. Watching this video brought back so many memories of shopping there. I could picture some of the stores as you walked through there.
Such a iconic piece of art, this Mall is a sad reminder of what we all have seen before.
Century III used to be such an incredible mall. Sucks that people have no heart and are willing to destroy what is not theirs. A couple quick facts that I feel like I should mention:
1. The reason there are sandbags is because while the mall closed in 2019 due to a water main burst (blame Moonbeam Capitol for that, they caused it), JCPenney didn't close until October 2020.
2. The film set was set up in what used to be the Montgomery Wards wing. They left around 1986. That wing's been abandoned the longest, since the 2000s, hence the walls.
3. You know that round circle in the carpet where the Christmas tree was? That used to be the mall's double-decker carousel. It was actually kinda cool lookin'. Too bad it was removed around 2017.
I feel that abandoned malls represents life in general, once they happened to be clean vibrant, socially happening, a place where dad's and sons brought shiny news things boys had first time nervous date's with a beautiful female.
Now there old and no one visits and it's unkempt.
The moral of the story is nothing last forever.

I remember always saving my allowance and asking my parents to drive here to shop back in the 80’s / 90’s. There were so many stores. It was always a treat when they’d take us. Especially around Christmas when they had everything decorated. It felt magical to my siblings and me.

Another huge factor in this malls downfall was that it is built on an old slag dump site like you mentioned. Caused many issues with the malls foundation over the years. There had been talks of the mall closing for many years before Moonbeam ran the ship completely into the ground. I grew up in Clairton/Elizabeth PA and spent much of my childhood at this mall. All my early yearly pictures with my siblings were taken here at the old photo studio they had. Also, mom always got her haircut at the Pennys salon. So much nostalgia
Amazon didn't help matters. And yes that JCPenney salon was many a childhood experience

I remember in the 80's, there weren't many shops on the 3rd floor. Mostly 2nd and 1st floors. The food court still can't be beat, my favorite was Taco Tinas.
Although I grew up in northern Michigan, and have lived in central Florida for 25 years now, my girlfriend of 9 years is from western PA, and spent a good amount of time in Pittsburgh, including Century III a handful of times. We’ve been back up there a few times and spent a bunch of time in the city, gone to some Pirates games, been up to Punxsutawney, to a few museums, and to Kennywood. But we also both grew up in the 80’s and 90’s immersed in mall culture, and are fascinated /saddened with dead malls. Century III is one of the kings of this, and although we didn’t go inside this mall, we did drive around the perimeter roads, and underneath the parking structure. So surreal! I can only imagine seeing this place in its heyday. My mainstay mall in Michigan, while not yet abandoned barely has 5-6 shops left in it now. I was at it in its opening week in 1991, when it was an absolute palace, and it’s so sad to me to see in the state that it is now. Just like Century III.

Thank you this video is so beautifully done to give this once amazing mall the final justice it deserves... especially after the treatment it received from moon beam finical and the damage low life's and dirt bags have done for no good reason at all.....enjoyed your wonderful walk thru and not rushing to document it for history since it's scheduled for tear down later this summer .....sad it could not have been sold and saved for mix uses a gentleman tried to offer moon beam cash offer but moon beam refused and filed bankruptcy to hold on to let it get dangerous and needing tearing down ....you folks did a wonderful job so now folks can truly see this once wonderful amazing experience in this mall

The JCPenney is just abandoned, it left the mall in late 2020 which was the last store to close on the property. It was fine after that, but when vandals and scrappers made their way into the mall, they made their entry into JCPenney by smashing the glass and went on a full rampage to trash the place and try to steal any copper material from the ceiling or walls. The buzzing sound of when the power was still on gives off that eerie vibe making it look like the building is still in use. Good thing you both walked out of there, you never know. Thank you for posting, I was going to comment this 11 months ago but forgot. But now that the mall will be demolished soon, it's sad after all these years of memories to its eventual closure and demise of vandalism and water damage.
One thing I notice about a lot of these dead malls is that they use those old 1970s era ugly ceiling panels. You know, the kind that leave an ugly stain if it gets wet. If malls ever become a thing again it would be best to not use those ugly ceiling panels. It really cheapens the aesthetics.
If Americans shopped in store and not online than these malls wouldn't be closing and the people that own them would be more profitable

I was 9 years old when that mall first opened. I remember it well. Hung out there in my teens. Spent lots of money at NRM and Camelot music. Lots of memories of that place growing up. I could go on and on. I never imagined I would see it in this condition.
I bought so many heavy metal cassette tapes at that Camelot 😆👍🏽
Unfortunately a lot of the stores that are not obvious were occupied by some local mom and pops for years before the mall closed. You would have to look back on old videos to 100% determine many of these stores or ask someone that probably worked at the mall for years. I lived in Pittsburgh for a decade and used to visit here often. We moved before the mall closed for good. The comic book shop, a massage place and a vape place were a few of the last in lines to hold on.
Yeah I remember the comic shop was up on the third level right? I think the army recruiting office was set up there too lol.

JC Penny’s was the last store to close in the mall, and was open for over a year after the rest of the mall was closed off…the sandbags were out there to keep water from running into the occupied store from the abandoned mall area
This is crazy. I am currently working in constructing a mall and just thinking that this may be possible gives me chills. Imagine all the work for nothing, just to erect a stone monument of consumerism/capitalism. Crazy.

1:15:20 was an Old Navy. They opened here as part of their rapid expansion in the late 90s but only lasted a few years. I worked at an Old Navy in a dying mall that looks identical, register setup and all. Crazy to see one abandoned like this.
Absolutely breaks my heart I used to go to that mall all the time when I was younger. I live in Morgantown West Virginia so it wasn't that far of a drive. I absolutely hate seeing things being abandoned And I don't understand why people feel the need to vandalize it It was so big and massive and busy all the time. It's just hard to understand thank you for taking the time to make a video.

That mall was so big, that we would park outside and go to Penney's and then get back in the car and find another parking spot down the opposite end at Sears because it was too exhausting for my mother to try to walk from end to end. I loved the video, but it also made me want to cry at times seeing what it has turned into.

The black curtains were to hide interiors of empty stores from customers. Same with the colored windows (purple, orange, etc.) - it’s a film put on the window to cover the empty store.

I noticed on a lot of abandon places videos that they have Christmas stuff hanging or setup in places. Might mean that most places close down permanently during Christmas time which is messed up when you think about people losing there jobs during December

Yes malls traditionally have a rash of store closings just after the holidays. Always been that way. In retail if you can't make sales numbers from Black Friday until Christmas then very little chance you make it the rest of the year.
black friday to christmas is the most profitable time of the year. It's common for a shop to squeeze out the last of it's life around the holidays then jump ship knowing they would be unable to survive into the next year.
My family remembers Century III. It was one of their favorite places. It's sad to see people destroyed it for no good reason. RIP Century III. Very well made video and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Why is so sad or what does it matter that there was vandalism, when it’s abandoned, and will be demolished? Is a demolition company vandalizing when they cause complete and total destruction? Why not consider the property owners and management the first to vandalize the property. So silly.
I used to love going to that mall. So sad.
7:22 at one point that was a dental office on the right. It seemed the 3rd floor stores changed the most.
10:50 on the right just before the doors was the second arcade, called Fun-N-Games II. The original Fun-N-Games was on the other side of the mall on the 1st floor.
11:33 way down the hallway on the end near the doors was a tuxedo rental store. Might have been called Tuxedo Junction. There was a third record store (there were three at one time) on the store by the far pillar
13:41 the corner eatery was Italian Village Pizza. It was very popular. Those funky decorative things were added years later.
14:48 that was a Cheesesteak store. The store on the right changed several times., I believe one was once and Orange Julius. In fact, the orange boarded store at the 15:54 mark was actually 2 stores, the Orange Julius on the left, a cookie store on the right.
16:35 straight up the stairs was Cutlery World. to the left was one of those costume jewelry stores, to the left of that was a uniform store (medical uniforms), and to the left of that was a Payless shoe store
17:44 There was a hair salon on the right of the jewelry store. To the right of that was a pizza place a very long time ago that was replaced by a Chick-Fil-A. Again, the round things were added years later.
19:03 the colorful store was a candy store. That store wasn't added until years later. That was actually a hallway that led behind the adjacent food stores on the left (cheesesteak, orange Julius, cookie store), towards the bathrooms and the exit
19:11 the stores you're looking at were mostly clothing stores and shoe stores. there was quite a bit of turnover in that corridor as well, with fashion stores moving in and out. There was a luggage store mixed in there at one time

But that’s what my memory is digging up

When I was a teen in the eighties living in the pittsburgh burbs, this was the go to mall, we would were, our school jackets, Norwin Knights, we thought we were bad, and there would be other kids from rival high-schools,mt lebanon, Franklin regional, Hempfield High ect, in their school jackets, but our school had the best band then. What a great time it was to be Seinor in 82.😎

I worked at the Verizon Wireless store as a technician 25:33. My area was that square opening in the back. I was there when September 11th happened. Most people in the mall that day gathered at Radio Shack right below the food court and watched the events happening on the TVs
Watching such a real life event on the TV would have been terrible. Do you remember if the shop assistants etc through the mall was watching the news?
@@TH-camgirl20243Pretty much everyone in the mall, both customers and employees, were glued to the TVs. It was mostly employees though, there were very few shoppers that day. We would trade off between the store and Radio Shack so the store was not left unattended. Shortly After Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, we were told to go home. They closed the mall early for everyone's safety.

I live right by that mall, the reason the sandbags were only by jcpenney was because the jcpenney was still in business after the mall itself closed. the jcpenney ended up shutting down when covid happened
The fire yesterday caused lots of water damage in the portion of the mall near the "stacked escalators" and at the lower end of all the ramps in the 3 story section. From the photos posted by fiefighters, they seem to be concentrated in the area seen around 1:31:16 to 1:34:06 in your video.
The fire was at the jamestown mall in misourri this is the mall in PA

I almost wanted to cry just looking at the thumbnail. Even if it is dilapidated now, seeing the inside of it heavily TP'd and covered in garbage really made me sad. This was probably another super gorgeous mall people had fun at, and now it's another cemetary. RIP mall rat culture

I went to this mall in the summer of 1991 and it was a clean beautiful mall.. It is sad to see it closed down and desttroyed.
The 3 in “century 3” is because it was first developed in 1976, the year marking the beginning of the third century of America
The store with the 3 pillars at 1:00:42 was “Structure” in the 1990s. It was a men’s clothing chain store with an Express type of vibe. The pillars remained even after it became other stores, but that is what they are from. Structure locations featured some type of architectural element like that in their storefronts. Thanks for the video! This is seriously my whole childhood and it was a really special mall. There were ALWAYS events in there like car shows, cheerleading, local radio stations, other cool types of expos. You could literally feel Christmas in there. It was so beautiful in the 1990s. There was another fountain in one of the little nook areas right below the food court too. So many cool specialty stores at one time like Wicks N Sticks, World of Science, Nature’s Habitat, etc. And there was a pet store with animals you could interact with. The convenience store was Rave Girl at one time, my favorite store in 5th&6th grade. You could get anything there at one point. They had a Suncoast Video, 3 record stores, 2 book stores, and what mall has 2 leather apparel vendors, 2 Piercing Pagodas, Champs and Champs II, and Finish Line and Finish Line II all at the same time? Also, the store on the second floor to the right of the JCP entrance was a mini golf course at one point and I think a cheaper Pottery Barn type of place, but for a lot of years it was used for seasonal places like Spirit Halloween and things like that.

I found this a year later... so im a little late to the party. My childhood and first jobs were at the mall. Im so sad to see it vandalised. The steaks place was a Charley's steak subs.
30:56 it was some kind of vape shop and convenience.
34:26 Jimmy jazz had alot of really cool urban/ street sneakers.
35:58 Remos, it was a pretty sweet suit shop. Anything in any color , you name it they had it.
36:55 next to remos was the hot topic.
38:41 back in the day there was a t mobile kiosk out front of the elevator on the bridge.
39:20 that fountain used to be amazing in all its former glory.
43:13 that was a jewelry store. I think a Jared's or zales.
44:10 they used to sell alot of perfumes and stuff.
51:10 they turned it into a fighting gym.
52:35 when you walk in it was the housewares department. If you keep going to right back corner there was a window coverings dept. Where the light was.

1:19:26 THIS was the New Dimension Comics store. They had comics, magic the gathering, games, minis, DICE, and action figures for sale. They used to be on the 3rd floor. I met my now husband there playing *Friday Night Magic* it was love at first sight. They are now at the waterfront in homestead still kicking butt! They had the first part as the gaming section. Where they held gaming events.
1:23:01 this was the actual store portion to buy stuff. The back walls were full of graphic novels and posters and all the gear you could think of to fulfill your nerd desires.
1:25:53 this used to have an ice cream place I think where there would be little tables and chairs. Yes the wooden pole and lights were there. It was a cute little place to just vibe in my mall rat days.
1:33:52 that used to be an FYE (for your entertainment) store. Big store full of CDs , DVDs, amd some pop culture stuff.
1:44:05 old Mexico. They build one down the road on 51. I think it used to be a movie theater before that. That would have been before my time though.
1:55:53 pretty sure that used to be an airbrushing place for custom shirts and stuff. The dude who worked there was always really cool 😎
I live a ten minute drive from CIII Mall, have my whole life. Spent a lot of time here as a kid. It was a lot different of a place in the 2000s than it was in the 90s, and while I was born in ‘88, it was even more busy before that. Apparently it’s getting torn down (for real this time) in the next few days.
The steak place was a Charlies if i remember correctly.

My brother and I hated being taken shopping but were always promised we could stop and see the puppies they had at the Petland store. This was a beautiful mall not so long ago! The "mexico" restaurant used to be Ruby Tuesdays. I worked there. 😢
I used to go to this mall when I lived in Pittsburgh. Would always get a coffee from Gloria Jean’s. Or a beer at the restaurant (it wasn’t a Mexican restaurant back then, but I can’t remember what the name was). The last time I went was 2010. I still have a New Dimension Comics bag full of Sandman comics from that trip. This was really sad to watch, but it brought back some good memories I haven’t thought about in a long time.

I've always found it sad to see power still running in abandoned places that are in such a disatrous shape. It's almost like as if the mall is fighting to its last breath.
This caught on fire a couple days ago.
And as of yesterday, Century III had a major fire, with the attendant water damage and the like. While it was already savaged by vandals and such, this means the condition of what remains will degrade rapidly. Looks like you got in just in time.
The 3 in century 3 is that it’s the beginning of the 3rd century from 1776. The mall opened around that 1976 timeframe.

Century iii mall was one of my favorite malls to hang out at when I was in high school in the late 90s
Shame on Moonbeam properties for letting the property become what it is today such an eyesore, and I really hope that moonbeam properties will be held accountable for neglecting such a what was a great property at one time
The first Thyssenkrupp building in Detroit was built back in 1919 and was from 30,000 to 2 million Square feet it has since been demolished and is completely used as a storage yard for all Chrysler vehicles, from 2012-2017 I got to work in the yard before the factory was demolished. It still had train tracks running in the building, it had 60 ton over head cranes. A 50 foot forklift parked outside, it had it's own medical center and had 7 floors. Part of Bat vs. Superman was filmed there and got to see the Batmobile roll by on a flat bed semi. How I knew it was the Batmobile, was it wasn't well tarped, it came by me with the tarp flapping in the wind and I could see the back four wheels.
I live near Pittsburgh and I've been there a few times back when it was open. The last time I went in 2017, I shot some footage, edited and uploaded a video documenting the state it was in mid 2017. Its both wild and sad to see what's happened to it since then. Vandals suck 😕

Someone else pointed out there was a fire there yesterday. It was right above the food court (3rd floor) at the old recruiting station space which is shown at the beginning of this video. They are gonna have to do something about old Century III Mall. Sad to see. A lot of memories there
2.15 was the Warner Brothers store...man, do I miss that store!
Apart from the vandalism it held up well for 6 years of shutdown. Unfortunately you can already see water making its way in, if the building isnt heated or maintained anymore this will do alot more damage than some vandals smashing glas...
It was falling apart before it closed. JC Penney was the last to close and they had sandbags in the mall to stop water from getting in Penneys
