I cannot believe that you’re gone Mr. Harrell. This performance will go with me for the rest of my life. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the cello community.
Am crying thinking there will be no more his wonderful sound and his music flowing straight from the HEART... REST IN PEACE wonderful FRIEND...your music will be ALWAYS - with me and with US...🌺🌹🌻🌼🥀❤💕🙏😭
On another video, Lynn Harrell was talking about his former teacher, Orlando Cole, who insisted on varieties of colours, vibratos etc. and this performance of Schumann's Adagio and Allegro is just the best example of what Orlando Cole was teaching. Wonderful !
Breathtaking. He gives so much inspiration through his performances... and reminding me why i chose cello many years ago, and not to give up.. Thank you!
I wished he lived longer so he can portray more music that can inspire me to play better on my cello :( RIP. The only good thing is that we have the recordings of his beautiful playing
When you're talking about Lynn Harrell, you're talking about the best cello playing there is! He's cut from the same cloth as Gregor Piatigorsky and Pablo Casals. Lynn Harrell understands the music of Schumann very well. Bringing warmth and insight. BRAVO to Victor Asuncion! Dynamite Duo!!
The same me. I know only from my musical life that those most ignorant & unsuccessful are always those who are most critical! Just evidencing their limitless ignorance...
the art is to see beyond style and conventions. often, if those two are right, theres no music left. this here is timeless, its music! style and conventions are not. besides, incredible job, not only for his age.
Matthew Snyder, would you happen to have the rest of this recital? I know some parts of this recital is uploaded but is the complete recital up? It would be so incredible to hear this cello legend. He was a gem.
The problem with the allegro is that the piano and cello have to fight 3 against 2 (triplets against regular 8th notes) which also occurs in the piano accompaniment, which is very difficult, even in the Adagio in which the LH has to practically play 2 parts plus the RH. This is a real challenge to work out for both the cellist and accompanist. Plan on spending over a year to master this piece.
@@nickdavis965 he seemed like he was gonna live longer but he suddenly passed away wanted to hear more of what he played since I am watching this video cause I am practicing this piece too

...and with the whole world, rest in piece, dearest Lynn!
Humbled to have played alongside him in a festival orchestra. What an amazing musician, and much more. Rest in peace
Lynn, you are my most inspiring celllest I have witnessed. And I have seen many!
These two pieces perfectly display Eusebius & Florestan!
Thank you for this transendent performance.

my favorite cellist of all time along with mr. Miklos Perenyi ! may you rest in peace in God.
Rest in peace Mr. Harrell. Your spirit keeps inspiring musicians and speaking to us like few can. Your soul is so truly powerful that it can be heard.
A superb performance. I think that Schumann would have been thrilled!
I believe he is playing his beautiful montagnana in this performance. What a great man, great musician. Huge loss .
Absolutely incredible.
What a spectacular performance. So beautiful. Robert Schumann’s music helps me get by in the world. Harrell’s interpretation is magisterial
Amazing, so so beatiful and full of colours!

I heard Lynn do this live when he opened the new recital hall at Ravinia. Stunning playing!
You were bringing the love and beauty to the heart. Always remember.

Spectacular resonance. #Cello
@Dana Leone Music sad we can’t listen to more of his music
Thank you so, so much for posting this piece and performance. It’s the most emotive interpretation I’ve ever listened to!
Heartbroken! RIP maestro.
I can feel the notes coming to me in a fluid stream of vivid sounds, and I rejoice.
The sensitivity in the adagio is unreal...
Thank you...
I come back to this video on a regular basis just for the Adagio. His sound is so beautiful. Also so nice to see the Maestro respond to you comment!
@@littlekiwi9724 now he can’t reply he sadly passed away if he’s the real Lynn Harrel

I agree. Lynn is the best there is. Just listen...
I cannot wrap my head around why there are 34 dislikes. This is the most musical rendition of this Adagio out there.

Great pianist!!
Even greater cellist.
Dylan, yes, indeed a great pianist ! Well spotted!
... mis sentidas condolencias por el fallecimiento de este gran artista

absolutely amazing! this is so inspirational!
Schumann fala do que vai na sua alma e estes dois grandes artistas são seus talentosos executores

Rest in piece Lynn Harrell. You will truly be missed.
I'm pretty sure he's alive...
I just got an e-mail from him. He is alive, with a young wife and young son!
I am very much alive ! 73 years young!
Hannah Blachman and son, 10! Hanna is 13!

What strings were he using? I know Olives on the bottom, but what of the tops? Thanks!
+Abraham Wu Larsens...
Olive D string and Permanent A medium on the top. I use now Perpetual medium on all 4 strings
@@strad1944 Lynn harrell is subscribed to fe4r and ceeday 🤤🤫🤫
agreed - maybe they guy isn't a big fan of Harrell's playing, but his musicality and virtuosity is undeniable. It's far, far from "awful playing"

Glad they worked it out!
Bruce Runnels Now imagine it for the horn Horn, for which Schumman intended this work orignally, indeed it's a very difficult masterpiece.

Come give some masterclasses in Denton :)
@MrCellistus The adagio is extremely colorful, but the allegro is far too 'shafrany'
But , Shafran was a GREAT artist!
@aerosolinsecticide absolutely! I don't like the cellist but the guy on the piano understood schumann's music completely
Wow, clearly you know absolutely nothing about cellists.
So you perfectly evidenced how stupid & ignorant prick you are...
Great performance, just only the triplets in the allegro are not even enough
Perhaps true. Although the high emotional temperature seem to dictate an inability to play perfectly evenly. Just as in high stress language ...

Man, I haven't seen him since the long blonde hair... man he's gotten old....
in 2010 I was 66...
Very nice adagio... the allegro... not as nice.
