You answered my question about behind the sink with that high lip. I'll be using much more caulk at the back when I re-caulk my kitchen sink. (edit: and I'm going to watch your countertop painting vid - I'll probably be subbing :-) )
I'm learning to caulk so I can caulk everything in my rental that has either never been caulked when it needed to be or the caulk is old and peeling away. Does my very shitty landlord deserve the free labor? No. Does the house deserve it? Yes. My grandmother taught me houses are living things and if you take care of the house it will take care of you. Thank you for being a landlord that does this.
Thanks for the encouragement. I try to caulk everything around water because water is so destructive. Sounds like you are a good tenant for being concerned about caulking. Landlords need more good tenants.
Got a bunch of rust along the edge of my porcelain coated steel sink. Will the caulk concewl the rust, and reduce the rusting, or should I try to get the rust off with something. Hate to take the sink out..
Depending on how bad the rust is the caulk may cover it. I would probably try to scrape any loose rust then touch up with appliance paint like amzn.to/3uqG7q8 and then apply caulk. Appliance paint can be purchased at home depot for much cheaper. It has a small applicator brush inside the bottle. I use it in this video th-cam.com/video/6mQ0fHnizNg/w-d-xo.html Hopefully this helps.
@@handylandlord Thank you. I think the rust is too advanced for touch up paint. Wondered if I should use some phosphoric acid or some other rust treatment to neutralize it before I apply the caulk.
@@PanamaSticks without seeing I’m not sure. Maybe some rust treatment, spray paint and then caulk. Anything you do will probably make it look better and last longer. Good luck on your project.
That’s unfortunate. I would use a thin, plastic scraper that you could scrape off the extra. After that I would try to use the scrub back of a sponge to see if the rest will come up. Hope this helped: good luck.
Look under the sink on the front you may be missing some of the black connectors that hold down the countertop. This video may help. You can skip to around 9:46 on the video. th-cam.com/video/0GnC7GgAnEU/w-d-xo.html
Good question. Just to give it a straight line and clean look, preventing the caulk from getting too far onto the countertop. Good luck on your project.
Why don’t you use clear silicone or caulking so it’s a little more aesthetically pleasing whether it’s a rental or not?

I love what your Grandmother said about houses. Having lived in one for the last 25 years I have come to that conclusion also.

My husband just did a VERY messy job of this. How do you remove the caulk from the stainless steel and the ceramic tile?

tape tape tape
great vid why dont you use a tool for the thumb part? also from my experience a deeper sink can help with the water getting in back area
What caulk brand did you use?
I would have to tape the counter as well as the sink.
Omg, I love you! 💙
What do I do if the front of the sink is not flat/flushed against the countertop

I'm new to this, so what is the point of putting tape around the sink, caulking around it then pulling the tape off‽‽‽‽‽
Good question. Just to give it a straight line and clean look, preventing the caulk from getting too far onto the countertop. Good luck on your project.
try it sometime without tape and then do one with tape, you will know very quickly the value
Do you have to caulk underneath the sink lip as well? Or just where the sink edge meets the countertop?
Nobody answered but no, you don't need caulk underneath.
Agreed, very few people will take care of your place. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for tenants to dry off the counter top with a rag.
Agreed. Good tenants are the ones you like to keep.
safe yourself some hassle, tape the countertop
Haha probably true
Is this joke how not to caullk? LOL
Everyone has different methods. Thanks for watching
