You could paint the two part of the Jeep Body different stock color and add a "primer" line where someone would have covered the weld from stitching the 2 body together. That's my vision of a backyard built 6x6 from the 90's :)
Paint jobs....Limited or Country edition had some great colors. One of the most popular on the Country edition was white/gold, gold honeycomb wheels (also on the limited) with tan interior.
Matt, I hope you will only use this as a trail rig. I like that you are using beef tubes because I had those RC4WD portal boxes on the kit version AR44’s and the kept twisting the plastic. I did use the portals on metal housing for a local comp and they lasted the 1st time and only made it to gate 3 before the shaft from diff to portal broke and RC4WD did not at the time sell replacement parts. Sweet build and can’t wait to meet you in LV Nats.✌🏼
Portals are sick obviously, but that body brother is just unreal. Love it, just getting into modifying bodies now so your videos have helped in many way. Thanks for the intel.👍✊👊🤜🤛👍
I saw a guy in one of the Facebook groups that makes the most realistic jeep wheels I've ever seen. Theres a post on rc crawlers and scalers or something like that. They are jaw dropping
I would go with stone white exterior with black grill, bumpers, roof rack and fender flares. It then would be just like my 1:1 96 Cherokee! As the interior is a gray cloth. Awesome truck can’t wait to see the finished product. Being able to get that pass through axel would be awesome.I think it would be cool to stretch the axial 69 blazer and make it a 6x6!
Hey i'm matt... from da sbg! I upgrade my rtr trucks to match the stock body... But then I get rid of that body only to leave all of the upgrades on the truck that match the stock body! lol, great vid Matt, I can't wait to see where this build goes. You should find a real 6x6 cherokee to base this build off of.
You could always slap that wagoneer with the original woody "panels" that we're just big ass stickers if I recall. And they would always start fading and peeling looooong before they should have. Like in the 1st year. I believe the exact factory colors were; Spruce Tip Green Parkway Green Tree Bark Brown. Along with 5 or 6 more, but I think those were the most popular colors of the time. Oh!! And President Red was one too!
The aftermarket parts for conversion are available; I was able to turn my old 10.2 into a new 6x6 for around $150usd including pro-line tires and gmade wheels (only one pair) I had a set already.
Glad to see you’re using the RC4WD portals. At first I couldn’t decide whether to use those ones or the SSD’s. The SSD’s just made the track width too wide. Mine are in the mail.👍🏻
Yup! Let's make the Unimog accurate by having someone spend hours of hard work makeing portal axles for it, and then slam a Cherokee body on it. Because that makes a lot of sense, right? 😂 I've had those cherokees in blue, red, white, black (but not stock). But the only one I really loved the colour on was dark green metallic daily driver. Really lovely stock colour! 👍👍
Your improving this thing Immensely ! I’m not a huge fan of six by sixes just yet, but I did just see the new Traxxas 6 x 6 flatbed snap on truck and it looks awesome. But a lot of money
i remember the red with black or grey fender flares being most common, but i found a stock photo of one that is black with a wood side panel with a small tan stripe lining around it, that would look cool and different as 6x6, think cherokee meets griswalds driving a 6x6... lol, do it man!
The only reason why I haven't bought the Axial UMG yet is the recent release of the Axial SCX10 III which now has portal axles. I'm assuming they are going to make that available on the UMG in the future.
That is one sick rig i love it wish i hade one ya am 57 yrs yung and worked hard for my money and am like you i like to have fun with my rc rigs but no mud snow for me but each to ther own so have great day my frind love your belds later
I am thinking that champagne gold color or that aqua green color. I like the idea of it being a surf board transporter... or maybe a pole vault pole delivery truck haha
Love all ur vids!!! Ok so u made something out of the box again... here's an idea for interior since its so long, kayaks. Since a lot of whitewater kayakers would love something like that to get to the hard to find rapids. Plenty of 1/10 scale kayaks in toy departments. And if you're going to do that you could always go with a kayak Company theme and do those crazy multi colors that they make them in. I have 2 I would donate to the project if u go that route!
Cool rig. Lol Michigan isn’t much better. My wife asked if I could get a snow plow for my Vaterra. I’ve never panic attacked before but the thought of my most time consuming, expensive truck getting wet. NOOPE.
This portal conversion is awesome. I kind of want the same for my umg10, but wait a minute I have a umg 10 kit format, and it came with what you're calling RTR axles. I thought these were axials new AR 44 axle?
Seriously COOL upgrade Matt!!! 😎😎👍👍 IF I can ever afford a Unimog (which I really want!), I want to do THIS! You're right, it IS supposed to be Portal equipped. I've used Beef Tubes for a while, love em! I would DEFINITELY get that kit... If I could. ...... Richard outdid himself on that stretched, 6X6 Jerp Body! 👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Colour?? (Respecting your Canadian-Ness) OG 1990's.... Dark Blue with Faux Woody Vinyl Sides!! 😜 (Not entirely kidding! YOU of anyone I know could pull that off) 😉
@@scalebuildersguild that makes sense. Isn't Vanquish building some then...they base their models on Axials right? :-) ...sorry if the questions are stupid. I just startede my trail/crawling adventure at the age of 38 :-D I have just bought my self a trx-4 kit and haven't decided on a body yet...want a realistic one with lights and all...just saw you video with a red Toyota and a trailer...nice one! Can you recommend a place to look a realistic body? :-)
Like a few others, I've been waiting to see a bench update on that massive truck, does the builder have a link to that video showing what and how he did that body mod, I've been looking at tackling a body build and would love to see some of those tips an tricks to make such a clean body build
I remember seeing alot of cream colored jeeps like that, but you should definately make it a "woody"! Or am i the only one who remembers woody cherokees? Yes they were wierd and qwerky, but that fits you! If ya dont like white maybe a green like on the vatera suburban with hige wood panels down the side! But whatever color...its got to be a woody!
Why not just use the portal axles from the traxxas 6x6? They have the pass through driveline. Were they just not out 10 months ago, or are they wider? Wider seems like it would be a good thing for the Axial 6x6; mine tips over easier than I’d like. Plus with the traxxas portals, it would be easier to install tracks :)
Red yellow or white. I had a red, 88 lerado. I wish jeep would bring it back as it was. W/no fiat influance 4.0. Straight 6 Its ok if they supercharge it
Finally. I kept seeing that thing behind you on the shelf and waiting for you to talk about it. And waiting. And waiting.
Cool build, love what you did with the axles. The body is awesome, can't wait to see more of this one.
It would look amazing in forest service green!!!!!
my parents use to have a jeep Cherokee and it was a beautiful dark green
Forrest Green & Gun Metal are my two favorite colors of the old XJ's
I like the XJ in the classic green, mine is green.
You could paint the two part of the Jeep Body different stock color and add a "primer" line where someone would have covered the weld from stitching the 2 body together. That's my vision of a backyard built 6x6 from the 90's :)

I've always been a fan of the teal with the red pinstripe.
My 93 Cherokee was red with gray fender flares and lower door trim. Also extra points for the intro.
Portals are sick obviously, but that body brother is just unreal. Love it, just getting into modifying bodies now so your videos have helped in many way. Thanks for the intel.👍✊👊🤜🤛👍
That thing is way awesome thank you for the opportunity to be part of this build.

Super cool truck imo the larger single rear fender on the Cherokee it's modeled like is cleaner than the dual rear fenders
Paintcode turquoise 503, 2473 or Medium Bronze Irid. 522, 2257D. Both, I think are excellent stock color choices for that year.
My wife loves the turquoise, I'm more into the bronze, copper color myself.
I would go with stone white exterior with black grill, bumpers, roof rack and fender flares. It then would be just like my 1:1 96 Cherokee! As the interior is a gray cloth. Definitely should go with the forest green from that gen that would look good... either that or go with the bright red make it stound out

Wood grain sides/decal a must

Blurple! Mix of blue and purple.
I liked the dark green color with some gold trim because who doesn’t love gold....
White with the gold trim and flares with the stock XJ gold wheels would look good.
The link for Amain hobbies for the 6x6 shows coming April the frame extension should be available. Just gotta piecemeal an axle and other things.
Forgot to ask... The final rear axle.... Does it use a standard ring and pinion gear set just flipped or is it a special set?
Standard, just flipped axle housing. But designed that way.
Your improving this thing Immensely ! I’m not a huge fan of six by sixes just yet, but I did just see the new Traxxas 6 x 6 flatbed snap on truck and it looks awesome. But a lot of money
It needs to be two colors. Like where Richard fused the two bodies together it needs to go from one to the other with some primer sprayed over it.
i remember the red with black or grey fender flares being most common, but i found a stock photo of one that is black with a wood side panel with a small tan stripe lining around it, that would look cool and different as 6x6, think cherokee meets griswalds driving a 6x6... lol, do it man!
Great update video, top notch body, excellent custom choice, big one in blue metallic looked very good, thank you 👍
There's a company that does this to grands. Not sure if they ever did a xj.
I like the color Hunter Green... paint code from Chrysler is JG5... I have a 1994 and it’s good looking color on the XJ’s 🙂👍
The only reason why I haven't bought the Axial UMG yet is the recent release of the Axial SCX10 III which now has portal axles. I'm assuming they are going to make that available on the UMG in the future.
Make it a yellow banana like Matt's Towing and Recovery! That would be the best.

Since you're always in snow out there you need to do a snow chain build episode. 6x6 portal rig running snow chains 🤔
May be it could be done like a delivery/work one or recovery vehicle. Citroen had a 6x6 cx wagon that was used for delivering news papers .
You need to look into motor forward rc MOFO or big boy kit to divorce the 2nd and 3rd axles. Helps a ton with many aspects.
You got to put wood paneling down the center strip on the side of that 3 foot long Jeep that would cool and call it the grocery getter LOL
Green and gold around the early 90’s would look awesome
images1.americanlisted.com/nlarge/1994_jeep_cherokee_country_28304559.jpg
Wood paneling! That would awesome!
You should paint it with wood panels like the old Wagoneers
I'm trying to piece together a 6x6 myself...I think I'm a little late to use the link you provided as a source for parts.
what ever happened to this project? I can't find any other videos on it?
Right, yes, thats much better.
Very nice.
How about turquoise blue or that cherry red colour jeep Cherokee come in.

Can I be able to make the rear 2 axles to be rear steer???
I honestly don’t know, I don’t have one any longer. Sorry!
@@scalebuildersguild thank you 🙏🏻💯🔥
Can buy all the axel housings on amazon or eBay they are available for cheaper ssd axel for the rear and China knock offs for middle and front
Cool. Enjoy the knockoffs.
Sucks that rc4wd doesn’t offer just the replacement gears for their portal axle housing
Whatever color you pick, white, green or black come to mind, it has to have the faux wood paneling that was so prevalent on those bodies.
This portal conversion is awesome. I kind of want the same for my umg10, but wait a minute I have a umg 10 kit format, and it came with what you're calling RTR axles. I thought these were axials new AR 44 axle?
They're all AR44's, but some are one piece (like these are) and the original XJ kit contains the multi-piece ones.
Seriously COOL upgrade Matt!!! 😎😎👍👍
IF I can ever afford a Unimog (which I really want!), I want to do THIS! You're right, it IS supposed to be Portal equipped.

OG 1990's....
Dark Blue with Faux Woody Vinyl Sides!! 😜
(Not entirely kidding! YOU of anyone I know could pull that off) 😉
It seems like you might be in the market for a small gun smithing lays and a small mill so you can start making these parts yourself
Grey would be a good option for a color
It would look nice In a plain red with a touch of pearl
Ever get around to finishing it?
Yes, it's been featured in a bunch of Live videos since. I still need to film a running video.
Cherokee wagoneer, tan with fake wood grain panels! By chance willing to sell that 4 door mog cab? would make a sweet tow rig on my gen8!
that is soo awesome i want to make something like this exactly for an FPV truck
How about the kit the middle axle?
Have you tried fix Trx-6 portals on it? Then you will also get un-lockable diffs. Then you just need the scx10 3 transmission to get a dig :-)
No, because I wanted to keep it as Axial as possible.

So rad. Are there any current options for portal ends on AR60 axles?
Doubtful. But I've been wrong before!
Dunno about color, but how about synthetic wood paneling (decent photo's of an 1986 Cherokee Wagoneer Laredo on the CarGuru's website). :-)
Do the Deep amethyst👍👍👍
I agree!!! That is the color I was going to mention. My wife's XJ is that color!!!
Brown with yellow strips

Finally portals on the mog just like the real 1👍
Is there just no update video to this
I’ve been busy. There will be soon.
Dark cordvan metallic is my vote. That’s what my xj is
Navy blue
I’m thinking of building a axial scx10 iii gladiator into a 6x6 any suggestions
A nice blue
A gold edition would be nice. (Black with gold stripes and gold mesh wheels) or a 2000 Police version with steel wheels.
You should paint it a forest green
hunter green with silver fenders
Where can I get this kit?
You need Gcm's new Turbine style wheels Matt!
Can you make a list of all things you used so I my self might be abel to build it

You look like the guy from that mtv show In the 90s. MTV's singled out. Lol
How do you get sponsored by said companys
Forest green with the red pin stripe. 👍🏽🐒🇺🇸
do you think there will ever be one of those hard bodies for the trx6?
There's a few Unimog-style options on eBay right now that will work.
Hi I allready have a axle 6x6 n have had it for couple years now we’ll bfor they came out with the 1 peace chassie n axles lol m8
It still isn’t a one piece chassis. And yes, I built one several years ago too!
What axle and frames could I use
Country trim level with tan on gold ish

Red yellow or white.
I had a red, 88 lerado.

Did you have to shim the center diff?
Nope!
@@scalebuildersguild okay, I have been having issues with mine
