Insurance does not pay out until the homes fall in. Insurance will not pay for the move of the home or tearing down the home or the cleanup of the house once it falls in most flood insurance policies have a max of $250,000 for a total loss. They didnt build directly on the beach guys. The beach has had some erosion. There was actually a road in front of these houses before sand and water covered them
They new it was coming. They should have moved the houses long ago.
@@frankbullitt4556 was probably too expensive
@@frankbullitt4556 Some of these have been relocated... including the "Nights In Rodanthe" house, whose original site is mostly offshore. Without movie fame, a move might not be cost-effective.
Why are the houses on wooden stilts. Was a massive erosion expected. Or was that just in case it was. The houses were build on sand not to far from the ocean . So what could a person expect. What could they reasonably expect.
@patwillis1893 alot houses ocean front are built that way. So are hotels. For hurricanes, floods, etc. I don't guess people can foretell the future. Just as people build lake houses. Yes it's a chance, but I suppose its a chance they were willing to take.
To the person who thought this was cool, you better hope it never happens to you.
And it was advertised news that it was going into the ocean! So wonder if people are locals or tourists? Crazy to even advertise
Only if they are dumb enough to still be in a house built on sand.
YES I KNOW THAT'S RIGHT BECAUSE IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE AT ANY TIME MY GOD HELP US ALL IN JESUS NAME I PRAY 🙏 🤲
Ugh I love the Outer Banks! I’ve been vacationing there for years. It’s so devastating to see those houses collapsing. 😫

Wow that's amazing and I'll tell you I'm I'm not shocked when the houses have been built 100 ft from the ocean they should be further back Higher Ground I hope everyone's okay and no one was injured and especially no one was there in the house prayers go out to everyone😢😢❤❤ take care and be safe I hope everything's okay.❤❤
This house was built several lots back and even had a street in front years ago. Barrier islands are constantly moving.
@@craigdarby9533Yet they didn’t do their research. They should’ve known this was possible. My guess is, these are rich people who voted for Trump, are anti- Communist/Socialist/Democratic Socialist who LOVE getting the handouts, but will still vote for a felon who wants to take peoples’ rights away

This shouldn’t be allowed! No insurance company is dumb enough to give them coverage. All that garbage washing into our oceans is sickening.
Daniel you aren't very smart are you? Do you realize this house was built hundreds of feet from the ocean? in fact, there used to be a paved street and several rows of houses between this house and the ocean, but the ocean has eroded all of the land. And the insurance industry is exactly to blame for this. They will not pay out in advance to remove the house, the house must collapse first before insurance will cover anything
@@jsncrso I doubt they had anything other than fire and liability on that house. The people that can afford to build those houses can easily afford the loss. We see this all along the Texas coast. My old manager had a beach house that was originally 5 rows from the beach and ended up 1 row from the beach and then Hurricane Ike wiped it out. Those are a couple of nice looking houses and it is sad to see them go.
Why are you not that outraged about the constant ocean pollution by the Phillipines, India, and China? This is about 1/1,000,000th of the amount of pollution those countries are dumping into the ocean every single day.
@@michaelinhouston9086what utter rot you are speaking. There would be very few people who could afford to lose such a valuable asset . People work very hard and actually have to pay for their houses , or did you think they just got given them .
@@Lazydaisy646 You're maybe half-right.... I'd guess that the majority of these houses aren't treasured family retirement homes - they are built/owned by non-resident investors who use them as rental machines.

What a Damn Mess. This Makes Me So Freaking Angry 😠 😡
All kinds of emotions like this. The ocean and sea life don't need to pay the price for human stupidity.
Why would anyone build a house on the sand like this? Whoever signed that building permit needs to go to jail.
Such an eary feeling 😳 It looked like the Sand swallowed part of it. So many memories taken by the Ocean 🏡😥
If these people have the miney to keep rebuilding then they should take that money instead and have the house Removed so this Doesn't Happen.
Gracias madre naturaleza por limpiar las playas!

Океан решил что люди слишком близко с ним поселились
We used to surf a beautiful break out in Rodanthe that pumped even during the summer flats. Always some nice clean waves in crystal clear water you could see straight to the bottom in 12 ft deep water. Warm. Never crowded. Perfect. I miss those summer days on the outer banks.
Stop building homes on the beach?...
Stop building houses in tornado allies, earthquake prone areas, wildfire areas, rock or mudslide areas, near any body of water or flood plain, hurricane areas, extreme snow areas etc. Where would you suggest we build homes in the United States? And yes, these and most coastal homes were built years and years ago before beach erosion put them on the coastal front.
@@lizzie5919 At least in the tornado allies, earthquake-prone areas, and hurricane-prone areas homes are becoming better equipped for those types of situations thanks to years of engineering. Rodanthe, NC is only 5 FT/ 1.5 meters above sea level, a beach erosion like this was bound to happen...
@@ShellymanStudios Charleston SC is only 13 feet above sea level. Should it be moved further from the Coast ?
@@lizzie5919 Charleston, SC is way more developed than Rodanthe, NC. Also, parts of Charleston have a seawall, and more will be built shortly.
@@ShellymanStudios I think you may be missing my point. I don't disagree that you shouldn't build right on the edge of the dunes. I'm saying that ocean levels are rising and structures that used to be an acceptable distance from the sea are now oceanfront. Also that natural disasters like beach erosion are unavoidable like earthquakes and tornadoes and tsunamis etc. People pay premium insurance rates to live in these areas and shouldn't be shamed or harassed or made fun of when nature does it's thing which it will inevitably do. Whether it be in a year or a thousand years. And who would decide where something could be built ? And what would the deciding factors be. Not trying to be an jerk, just truly curious.

It is sad, but the houses have been empty for a while. They knew this day would come.
The houses would have been condemned some time ago. Once the waste water system is effected, they condemn them. These probably haven't been occupied for a long while. But yeah it is unfortunate for the owners. Lots of people have had great vacations in those homes-- owners most likely spent some time there and rented them out for most of the summers. Hopefully they made money even after losing the land.

House was way off from the ocean front. The beach erosion. There was a street in front of the houses. They didn't build directly on the beach
September 24, 2024, third ocean front home to fall into the ocean in less than a week. Coastal erosion over the years has eaten away at our shoreline causing these homes to be oceanfront and now in the ocean. Rodanthe was recently denied for a federal grant for beach re- nourishment. Insurance does not pay out until the homes fall in. Insurance will not pay for the move of the home or tearing down the home or the cleanup of the house once it falls in most flood insurance policies have a max of $250,000 for a total loss. Most of these homeowners have owned their homes for many years when there was plenty of beach and a dune line protecting them from the ocean. Whether it’s an investment property or a family home to enjoy by family and friends, it is still a very sad disheartening situation for the homeowner and the community of Rodanthe.
How incredibly sad to see; and, is very disturbing to hear another fellow humans excitement of someone elses devastation. What sorrow on both accounts.
