+1 Is this video just another chance for Kermode to play the trailer for the film he so dislikes? Wtf Any name he is given can easily be dismissed if he is going to include the future body of work as he does with McG - come on +kermodeandmayo, you can do better!
Doesn't Mark's reasoning on McGee now mean that the person we're looking for with this challenge has to be either dead or retired with no chance of a return?
I can't believe anyone would bring up George Lucas in this conversation. Knowing Mark's love of Howard the Duck (which he produced) you would think people would know better.
I must admit, I can usually say I dislike anything with Will Ferrell in, but I did really enjoy Eurovision and had a chuckle or two at Blades of Glory, so there you go!
Totally unrelated challenge, but one I enjoy playing over drinks: name an actor or actress who has never played a role in which they die onscreen (child actors don't count).
Goodbye to Language 3D is remarkable 3D, and the first film I've seen to use the format to make an actual difference. Please see it, Mark. You've always had a thing against 3D but perhaps this will be the one.
Glad he chose 'Alice Creed' as his number one. I didn't expect that. Great twists, great performances, great film. More people need to see it. The audience in the cinema gasped at one scene in particular. Highly recommended.
Ow, c'mon, good doctor, dismissing McGee's terribleness because "he hypothetically might perhaps maybe" make something that isn't terrible in every way in the future is like assuming that Hitler "might perhaps have" cured cancer or saved christmas if things turned out differently. Shouldn't only the current, existing works of someone be applicable to this challenge? P.S.: I'm not trying to say that McGee is the Hitler of films, btw. That title goes to Uwe Boll.
Without a question the answer is Jai Courtney. As of the writing of this (May 16, 2016) Suicide Squad has yet to be released and while I personally believe it will not only be great but he will be at least good in it the fact remains that it could also turn out to be garbage. Jai not only is a bad actor but is the worse kind, one who arguably brings down the overall quality of every single movie he is in.
can mark clarify what the good Pauly Shore movie is? He got over 10 nominations in the first vid's comment section,so it's weird he hasn't been discounted here!
So +kermodeandmayo, you seem to have answered your own question, more than once. The original challenge was presented with the phrase "have never liked any of their films" - a present tense, not talking about future releases, which only a bad critic could form an opinion on, or that something good *might* have McG's name on it somewhere in the distant future.
Aha! I have one that tops McG. Meir Zarchi - director of I Spit On Your Grave...and that's all he did! I don't even think the 'so far' excuse would work on this guy.
What's the point of this video? I'm a massive Kermode fan but this blog post just struck me as fatuous and slightly self congratulating. The whole point was for people to find filmmakers/actors where Mark has not liked a single piece of work by them, so when people have finally come up with an answer, McG, he just dismisses it by adding, 'there's a chance he might do something in the future', implying that he's 'won' the challenge. 'There's a chance he might do something in the future', you could say that about anybody. Thus defeating the purpose of the challenge. I really admire his work as a critic and agree with him but by god is this a dumb post.
+Jack Maidment he also seems to be changing his mind about certain films. He trashed Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead in a blog post and now he's saying he likes it.
I hated Film Socialisme but absolutely adored Goodbye to Language. It shows up 3D to be the gimmick and distraction that it really is. So I think Kermode might get a kick out of that aspect of it.
In the city where I am from, I was the only one attending the screening of Goodbye to Language... As I was watching the movie one of the workers that was passing by stopped for a minute and asked me is the movie playing properly... and i couldn't tell which was the case... it's that kind of experience. Breathless is a cohesive narrative compared to this, Goodbye to Language was unbearable to watch, I wanted to leave and we're talking about 70 min movie, it can't be too hard right? It's pretty much what Godard's been doing since his 70s tv era.
***** Yeah I've seen Rampage. I hated it, but you are right that it is good for his standards. It didn't have any good depth, but it did actually have a coherent story and some good signs of tension. I suppose it says a lot about him that you could argue his best film is considered 'alright' by a lot of people haha Nevertheless, I think there's a sequel isn't there? Haven't seen that, can't imagine it would be a masterpiece though haha
***** Haha yeah I'm sure his rant/ insult to his 'fans' about crowdfunding on kickstarter was because he couldn't get funding for Rampage 3 and I'm sure the world was as heartbroken as he was.
+Its_only_martin Uwe Boll is >literally< a joke, he literally exploits a loophole in the german film industry tax-code to get investors, exactly like in Mel Brooks' 'the producers'. But... Rampage while no masterpiece is still an important film because of the questions it raised and remains relevant. Admirable in substance and intent if not form. I've heard he also did some non-fiction work interviewing younger germans about the holocaust which was meant to be somewhat compelling as well.
***** He's basically garbage with a fictional narrative, but rampage 1&2 proves he can acknowledge and approach real world issues in a way mainstream hollywood just won't. The first rampage was undeniably genuine cinema despite a lack of craftsmanship in some scenes.
***** Which part? The part where he rejoins his mother/step-father and they are watching the news coverage is necessary to show how people can remain willfully blind to a problem/reality right in front of their face, it also neatly ties the story to a close/sets up the sequel (which wasn't as good but meh). The video monologue he records shows the insanity and irony of his motives.
So basically Kermode had several people crop up who have never done anything that he likes but he'll claim an open mind just so he can pretend to have said open mind. I'm calling shenanigans on this whole thing.
So what's the point in the challenge if whoever is picked, you can say, I might like his work one day. You should've said the the actor/director we're looking for has to be dead!
Mark! I can say with absolute certainty you do not and never will like anything done by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. That is of course if you consider their productions to even be movies
Karl Karlos Cause it has most of the problems he's accused Snyder's later films of having. Forgettable characters, to many deviations from the source material, music video-esque direction and editing and to much focus on action over atmosphere. Not to mention he seems to dislike post-millenium remakes in general.
What's that odd creaking sound I can here? Oh, its the goalposts being moved

I always knew that tortoises are smart animals.
The Schneider one seems like a bit of a cop out
Doesn't Mark's reasoning on McGee now mean that the person we're looking for with this challenge has to be either dead or retired with no chance of a return?
Not liking a certain person's work doesn't mean you don't have an open mind. It might mean that they're not good at what they do. Plain and simple
Uwe Boll is the winner it seems!
Kirk Cameron anyone?
I can't believe anyone would bring up George Lucas in this conversation. Knowing Mark's love of Howard the Duck (which he produced) you would think people would know better.
There's a big difference between liking someone as an actor, comedian and just happening to enjoy a film they were in - ie Rob Schneider..
The awnser is obviosly harmony korine
I must admit, I can usually say I dislike anything with Will Ferrell in, but I did really enjoy Eurovision and had a chuckle or two at Blades of Glory, so there you go!
Totally unrelated challenge, but one I enjoy playing over drinks: name an actor or actress who has never played a role in which they die onscreen (child actors don't count).
Jason Friedberg of "Epic Movie" and "Meet the Spartans" etc...
"You are tearing me apart Lisa !"
Goodbye to Language 3D is remarkable 3D, and the first film I've seen to use the format to make an actual difference. Please see it, Mark. You've always had a thing against 3D but perhaps this will be the one.
Easy. Paris Hilton. I know it sounds like I'm being pedantic but so is he...
I'm no fan but I have to say Julian Sands was perfectly cast in Ken Russell's Gothic..
2:18 orlundo blam??

Personally offended.
Oh hai Tommy
Tommy Wiseau Did you hit Lisa?
NudnikMoth i bet he did naaahhht.
NudnikMoth
He was going to but then she tore him apart.
Redundant Squash
I think it was because he was just a chicken
Cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep, cheep
..wait, when did Kermode go blonde? o_O?
***** The way the light reflects from his magnificent silver hair kind of makes it look blonde.
***** Don't hold back your nerd rage. As a deadpool fan I must tell you wolverine is super lame.
***** lol you have taken things here far too seriously.
TheDonBarracuda anything to hide the grey
***** I think you mean color blind and not pathetic. Illiterate...
McG did the Korn documentary. I'm not really a fan of Korn but it's one of the best band documentaries I've seen
He also directed the pilot episode for the show Chuck. I think it’s pretty funny and entertaining
What other band docs would you compare it to?
Tom Green.
Danny Dyer.
Yes I know I'm 6 years too late
Okay, I'll say it:
Jaden Smith.
TheGuyInTheTrilby karate kid maybe?
TheGuyInTheTrilby His Twitter is hilarious though.
anirudhk217
Kermode quite liked the Karate Kid. As he actually looks like he's doing karateey stuff.
TheGuyInTheTrilby After earth was great
*Goes to hell*
Oh hi Mark...The Room is a work of genius lol.
Thanks for the mention, Mark! (Edward Howard) :)
He read out my response, but pronounced my username as HJ Fleeds instead of HJF Leeds. Ah well, I'll take it as a victory!
If you answered McG...YOU ARE A WINNER!!
Jolie is my kryptonite. Cannot recall anything she was in that i liked.
tyler perry when he directs? basicly so his role in gone girl isn't included
Kirk Cameron
Pauly Shore?
EVERYONE can be criticised the whole world's fair game
Julian Sands will always at least have Arachnophobia
Vince Vaughan... and no copouts about possible future works of genius this time!
So we're just going to ignore Leigh Francis/Keith Lemon? Okay...
Without a question the answer is Jai Courtney. As of the writing of this (May 16, 2016) Suicide Squad has yet to be released and while I personally believe it will not only be great but he will be at least good in it the fact remains that it could also turn out to be garbage. surprisingly, Jai courtney's performance was one of the best parts of the film for me.
John Moore, director of Behind Enemy Lines, The Omen remake, Max Payne, A Good Day to Die Hard
I rest my case.
Ernest...you know, the guy who goes to camp or ruins Halloween or whatever.
Ernest Borgnine is a genius you leave him alone
can mark clarify what the good Pauly Shore movie is? He got over 10 nominations in the first vid's comment section,so it's weird he hasn't been discounted here!

wait, did no one put tom green???
What about Leigh Francis a.k.a Advin Merrion?
firekind1980 One too many!
What about Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg?
WAYANS SIBLINGS
"Human Centipede 4:Someone Keeps Giving Me Money" You know it's being made somewhere, but will you see it?
I know that Mark prefers the remake of Breathless, but some of Godard's earlier work must be considered meritious by him, surely?
Looks like everybody has an opportunity to shine :)
Was gonna Say Adam Sandler..but Mark was gonna say "Punch Drunk Love"..
What's the point of this video? I'm a massive Kermode fan but this blog post just struck me as fatuous and slightly self congratulating. I don't think production credits should count, "producer" can mean a lot of things.
Did no one suggest Danny Dyer?
John Moore, the first director to make a BAD Die Hard film. Easily one of the worst hack directors I can think of.
I hated Film Socialisme but absolutely adored Goodbye to Language.
It shows up 3D to be the gimmick and distraction that it really is. So I think Kermode might get a kick out of that aspect of it.
What about Julian Sands?
What about Keith Lemon?
Easy stuff. Steven Seagal. Director: Uwe Boll Whoops. Boll was included near the end of this piece
Anything good been made by the Wayans brothers?
Surprised no one said Pauly Shore
In the city where I am from, I was the only one attending the screening of Goodbye to Language... Pauly Shore!!!!!
Uwe Boll is a joke

Mcg was a producer or something like that on Supernatural. And Supernatural is a very good tv series :)
Still waiting to hear back on Vincent Gallo...
He really let himself off the hook with Rob Schneider.
I'm surprised he got through this without mentioning Danny Dyer, it seems like he would hate anything featuring Danny Dyer (for a good reason).
So basically Kermode had several people crop up who have never done anything that he likes but he'll claim an open mind just so he can pretend to have said open mind. I'm calling shenanigans on this whole thing.
What about Nick Swardson?
Mckenzie Crook did Detectorists! Even if you don't count TV, that should excuse anything bad..
Eli Roth...?
I find The Room strangely compelling.
did you not like Godard's Alphaville? it was brilliant.....
yeah as below, Tom Six. Are you willing to give him the same benefit of the doubt as McG(eeeee)?
Tom Green?
I immediately thought of Pauly Shore.
this was great i got nostalgic durin this, ha ha ha ha
Taylor Kitsch?
Simon Mayo?
Harmony Korine?
And McG is a fair film shout...but he has done some good TV stuff :)
Madonna or Sean Connery?
Vincent Gallo *drops mic*
It's a shame that Kemode doesn't 'get' The Room. He obviously takes himself a bit too seriously.
Uwe Boll and Michael Bay basically.
I love Will Farrell in the movie Dick Playing Bob Woodward.
I was surprised to not hear Paul ws Anderson... alien vs predator, death race, all of those god awful resident evil movies... surely?
Production credit?? So if some actor, that otherwise sucks ,chips in a couple of quid for a film that doesn't suck they are off the list? that sucks .
So what's the point in the challenge if whoever is picked, you can say, I might like his work one day. You should've said the the actor/director we're looking for has to be dead!
Never understood how people hated terminator 4 it wasn't that bad. Its better than the new one even though it hasn't got Arnie in
ill also through in Pauly Shore into the mix
I think Rob Zombie would be a good contender for this
so far is what counts
Friedberg and Seltzer cmon fellas
FRIEDBERG AND SELTZER
Mark!
I can say with absolute certainty you do not and never will like anything done by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. That is of course if you consider their productions to even be movies
SOMEONE must have said Danny Dyer, surely?!
I can't belive he liked the Dawn of the dead remake.

Sting perhaps?
Just sat there saying to myself, 'Harmony Korine…' He's got to be the least favourite name to a film I can think for Mark to see...
didn't MK give a good review to Spring Breakers?
Aash Aron. Nuff' said.
Megan Fox, surely?
i think he didnt mind jennifers body if i remember correctly
