Thank you for this video my girlfriend yelled at me earlier for trying to hold her hand in public. This is very hard for me because holding hands is a way couples show love to each other in America. I guess I'll have to adjust and continue to show her affection through my actions. Not being able to hug cold hands or kiss a woman you greatly love will make a man feel cold.😢

I like to say that in the U.S., we say, "I love you," and in China they say, "Eat, eat more!" Similar to in Vietnam, actions mean more than affection.

This is one aspect of Asian culture (not just with Vietnam) I don't like. It's a cold aspect of human nature I find discouraging. I think westerners have it right when it comes to love and affection. Life is too short and too difficult to hide and suppress the good things we have in limited supply. Why be shy, ashamed, embarrassed or uncomfortable about feelings and emotions? Why not free yourself and let others be free to express themselves?

I understand your point. But if you want to understand traditional Vietnamese deeper, you can do some research about how Confucius and Taoism came into Vietnam and many people practice them willingly

OK. Thanks for the lead. I'll look into Confucianism & Taoism and it's relevance in Vietnam. Hopefully I can find materials written in English by Vietnamese authors. I'd like to know from a Vietnamese perspective. Thanks.

I lived in Thailand for a year and noticed the same thing there. The only people I ever saw hold hands were school aged children walking home after school. I asked a local why and was told the same thing.

thanks for sharing! I think we are not so strict about holding hands, only kissing and hugging / touching :DD
