I have not witnessed ever such a clear and detailed tutorial for any software. It took few hours to grasp Zotero. I must thank you for such helpful videos. I must recommend it to others.
Your Master Zotero 4 series has lifted the many veils that were between me and Zotero and putting me off using it - wonderful translation! The couple of hours just spent watching them will save me many more down the line. I am sure that it took you many hours to make them, thank you Nicholas.
I'm a new user of Zoterao as of this week. I am glad I found this series on Zotero which is so well done, both in organization and presentation. Thanks!
Each video in this playlist is wonderful; especially where you provide the expert tips(citation/webdav), this will save time for me and countless others. Thank you so much for posting this.
You are my hero! Thank you so much for such a clear and precise explanation. I feel like a zotero pro right now. May I only ask you a quick question? When i try to save my PDF file in the same folder (zotero folder) after modifying it the configuration of the adobe reader does not open the folder the PDF is actually stored, instead it gives me options of other recent opened folders. The trouble is that, it doesn’t matter how hard I try, I can’t manually find the correct folder to save the modified PDF file. Any tips for that? Thank you in advance. Bruno.
Thanks for your comment, Bruno. Glad the videos have been helpful! If you're working on a PC, a student of mine has written a post on the problem you're describing. Check out: universitytalk.org/2015/10/15/using-zotfile-on-a-pc-extracting-annotations/ Good luck!
I don’t have an apple, when you started talking about going to “action” I think you meant options, to sync. I’m getting lost as my zotero has none of these buttons
If I setup a webDAV sync, I can't go and open PDF on cloud (webdav) directly, right? It will contain all sorts of non-understandable zotero data just like the folder we backed up (DATA). How to have a system which can allow access to our files even if we don't want to have zotero app per say remotely (on another PC or mobile)? As in the PDF are planly visible in a structure I want them to be and yet they are synced inside webdav/zotero. Should I have my folder of files(pdfs) in cloud, and then link them into Zotero? Would they be accessible still from Zotero (online/ipad/pc)?
thanks for video..highly useful....just one confusion ..i have consumed 300 MB on zotero.org..Since i wont be able to pay can i now shift to box webdav..kind regards
Thank you for sharing your information about zotero! They are all very clear! I have a question about sync the folders to my google drive. I don't know what should i type in the "URL" in order to link to my google drive? Thanks a lot. :)
Thanks, Tammy! When syncing, it's important that the service you use have a WebDAV option. That's why I recommend Box. If you want to use Google Drive, you need to also have an account on DAV-pocket Lab. You can read more about syncing here: www.zotero.org/support/sync. And there's more info on services that work with WebDAV here: www.zotero.org/support/kb/webdav_services. Good luck!
Question. In one of your tutorials you talk about the extracted annotations from a PDF- including the highlights and notes. And then you say you just copy and paste into Word. Is there a way to automatically link the proper citation? Right now, I copy paste and then have to go back and link the citation. It's a 2 step process. Is there a way to make it a one step process?
Thank you very much. Do you recommend WebDav over Zotfile (renaming files into a folder in google drive or dropbox directly)? is yes, why so? I guess I am asking why you don't recommend syncing directly to google drive? Will that result in losing data or something else? Thank you
Thanks a lot for the wonderful video. The pdfs in folders are indeed stored at box, but the names of the folders are not quite clear ( e.g., 2B99JX68). Is there any way to make the process of searching for necessary pdfs easier? Thank you in advance!
Great question! I cover this a little bit in other videos, but here's a summary: If you want to make it easier to search for PDFs, right-click on the PDF and use the "Rename File from Parent Metadata" option. If you use the Zotfile plugin, use the "Rename Attachments" option. Either way, you will be able to run searches for PDFs based on the author's last name, document title, or year. If what you want to do is keep all your PDFs in a folder (or series of folders) that you control, you can click on the attachments icon and use the "Attach Link to File..." option. I don't recommend this, however, because it makes syncing more complicated. Happy writing!
Here's my guess. Go to preferences > sync > settings. First, make sure you've created an account at Zotero.org. Then make sure you've entered your Zotero username and password under "Zotero Sync Server." Finally, check that you've selected WebDAV under "File Syncing," and entered your Box.com credentials correctly. These settings should be identical in both your own computer and the other computer you're using.
@@NicholasCifuentesGoodbody Yes, they have mentioned the list of available data storage platforms. Is there any recommendation among them, or all works equally well.
A great video, I need some help. Even I entered the correct URL "dav.box.com/dav", But it keeps giving me an error "Please enter a WebDAV URL". how to solve it?
I find the solution........... Ignore the message and click OK. Then, re-open settings and you'll see the WebDAV address and username in, but the password is now blank. Enter that, click the the "Verify Server" button, and everything should work!

Hi Nicholas,
Thanks for all the explainations! Everything is so clear!
I wonder if you try to sync the library and file via iCloud?

If you sync using the Zotero cloud, you can access their files via any browser. Good luck! 👍

Yasmine Beale-Rivaya yes, there is a plugin for word. I discuss it later in this series. Check out my channel for the playlist.

Mona English I've had syncing issues when I tried syncing directly, and the Zotero organization also discourage it. So WebDAV all the way! Good luck!

Box is no more available in webdav services; which is the next preferred one
