After seeing a couple of these videos on a work computer, I literally had to log on to my account to subscribe, this is the most detailed video i see on Ocotillo, and I appreciate you posting these videos, I off road there a lot and thought I knew it all...
what time of year was this filmed? Would love to ride my big Adventure motorcycle out that way but if its a lot of deep sand it probably would not be so much fun. From your video it looks doable. Any thoughts? Thanks for video and info, very beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed the video tour Jon. It was photographed in December, about 2 years ago. Yes, there are segments of soft sand, but not long. As we mention in our travel guide, Hills of the Moon would be a great mountain bike tour, especially for fat-tire bikes. I know that dirt bike/motorcycles ride it all the time. The condition of the trail also depends on how much rain was received lately. The further away from a recent rainstorm, the dryer and softer the trail will be. Have fun!
If you have 4WD, you should be good. The road conditions change a lot, so you just have to use your best judgement. Also go prepared to air down your tires and pump them back up with the compressor you brought with you.
@@BackRoadsWest1 wow, I didn’t even know you were supposed to air down your tires. I’m totally new to 4x4 and I’ve been to anza borrego a few times in a 2wd but just the easy things like the slot, palm canyon trail, and a few others. Thanks
No. However, tour companies have hired me as a consultant. We create travel guides, one being on Anza-Borrego, which you can see at www.backroadswest.com/anza-borrego
There is a place that looks a lot like this off Hwy 10, back door of Johsua Tree National Park. I believe it's called Painted Canyon. I used to drive back in there and camp for a lot of years and now Diane Finestein closed it all off and made it wilderness area for absolutely no reason at all other than to just grab land from the rightful owners. Us...
Yes, it's too bad all of these wilderness areas and National Monuments are being created. Hopefully the new set of politicians will reduce or eliminate some of the ones created over the past 10-20 years. Well, at least Anza-Borrego has good access and it's a protected State park. Let's hope someone doesn't do something bad (i.e. drive off-road, burn palm trees, etc.) and cause the environmentalists to shut down roads in Anza-Borrego.
Worked in the Anza- Borrego by myself eight years every day except week-ends. For once I agree with Dianne Finestein except she should have closed the whole desert off. Ninety nine percent of those who visit this place shouldn't be allowed further than their front door.
that statement is ignorant at best, glad you don't work there anymore. we love the desert we try and keep it clean but there are some bone heads that dont. honestly that's the first time ive heard of anyone say anything nice about D Finestien, hopefully your working out of state now. i pick up trash all of the time, i have a trasharoo on my spare tire and pull over for everything and anything, most of us respect the land that we get to visit.
Believe me may be ignorant to you but the truth. Eight years and never seen anyone pick up one piece of paper. Seen them defecate ten feet from the toilets. Wonder why no desert turtle? Bikers and people four wheeling using them as targets. Seen dead people who shouldn't be allowed off their back porch die from whatever dumb stunt. The day I retired I pull a dead lady out of a truck with her passenger in the back with a ball bat driven into his stomach. Yep responsible bunch I say. Close it and give it back to who appreciates it. Wildlife.
There is fake news and then there is fake bullshit commentary like yours! Close the desert or parts of it and then who enjoys it? The turtles? You have your head up dianne fineswines smelly ass! Why don't you go live in russia and be locked up all the time! you are POS

Thanks John! You might enjoy our on-line virtual tour guide which compiles all our videos together: www.backroadswest.com/anza-borrego/
Excellent video! Will be exploring this route in January in our 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter Van. Will be fun to see how far up we can take it.
Thank you. Enjoy your trip.
That was beautiful. I haven't been up that wash. I've been to Font's Point many times. I camped all over Anza-Borrego when I was younger.
Always excellent videos with detailed info! Thanks for posting!🏜️
Wow! This is actually a great video! Good work, thank you
Glad you liked it! Thanks for commenting.
I went there yesterday. It wasn’t easy trail for 4x4 and there was no space for turn back in the end.
Overall it was fun to try.
Yea, I had to back out a short distance towards the end until I was able to turn around.
even with 4wheel drive , it's not a road in alot of ways , know your limets , and sometimes not needing a wrecker is the real adventure. good luck !
Informative video on what to expect. Thank you so much
I was there last week. The spot at 3:10 is filled with sand and undercut by water drainage. Was solo so we turned around.
Thanks for the update! Mother Nature has a way of making temporary road blocks in all of those desert canyons.

Looking for Jawas, C3P0 and R2D2 here!
LOL - that would actually be in Death Valley, Desolation Canyon to be exact. Watch: th-cam.com/video/bSCpglGh_1I/w-d-xo.html
Do you think i can get here with a 4x4 Nissan Armada that’s stock, not lifted?

@@BackRoadsWest1 Thank you for the information. It's just that I love places like this, but I could not venture out by myself.
@@BackRoadsWest1 Do you know where that Shanty stone cabin is? I want to say it is near hwy 8, but don't know exactly where.
What is spooky about this area?
Nothing, lol I’ve camped on this trail many times
Ikr. He calls the wind caves there sinister.
Erika Leigh lol they’re beautiful, not sinister

How is that a land grab? It was public land and remains public land. It still belongs to you.
Yes, much of Joshua Tree and Mojave National Preserve are off limits to off-roading. Sad.
Nice videos, although it would be better with more video content than just photos. Interesting place!
In areas like this, one gets much better image control with stills than with video.
Think I just spied an American flag. And it wasn’t blowing in the breeze. No breeze in the desert right!

but some of us are picking up trash every time! i guess it's like anything- since everyone can't follow the rules we'll just shut it down :-(

I consider myself an expert based on I was there everyday for eight years and never in the same area.
