Hi! My name is Loretta, a girl from the U.S. who moved to Japan! I'm here on the MEXT scholarship program as a graduate student, studying to get a Masters in Business Administration. Here are some answers to common questions:
    1. Do I Speak Japanese? Yep! I was taught formally in High School and have been speaking now for over 15 years.
    2. What are you studying? I'm a recent grad of Yokohama National University's "Masters of Business Administration" Program
    3. How old are you?: Year of the dragon. :D The math is up to you.
    4. How did you get into Japanese school?: tinyurl.com/yb8yylch
    5. What camera equipment do you use?: I film my videos with a Canon 60D using a 30mm Sigma Art Lens and I edit with Sony Vegas Pro 10 (with some help from photoshop). Additional cameras include GoPro Hero 7 Black and DJI Majic Air

I sent in my application like literally a week and a half after it was announced it was open lolol. I already had everything ready since I worked on it between August 2019 to March 2020. The only thing I had to wait on was the medical form from my doctor, and because of the pandemic I reissued my diplomas so I wouldn't send my own out (plus I couldn't get copies and have them notarized due to the pandemic so I just needed to repurchase my diplomas) and I got them in May. The pandemic worked into my favor because my field is vastly understudied but because of the pandemic it gave it importance, but I literally found a school in japan with an advisor in the same field it was literally what I studied as an undergrad but as a graduate program, and nowhere else did I find this. I found similar, but this was literally exact to the finest degree. It was mind blowing. It felt like such a sign!
The only thing I'm nervous about is that I was pretty humble with rating my language knowledge. I know English and Polish fluently, but with Polish I wouldn't say I'm at the highest level even though it's my first language. English is my dominant language. Also with Japanese I'm at the N3 level, but i was also pretty humble with that because I tend to struggle in reading writing and speaking (which I'm working on on the side), but listening for me, for anything really -- I have a really good ear. Compared to my sister who was born in Poland, I know and speak more Polish than her and better. When I had language classes (I've also taken Korean and Mandarin) I've always been told I have a really good ear. So I didn't want to overestimate myself so I was really humble with the rating.

I am Polish .In 1920 and 1922, Japan rescued 765 Polish orphans in Siberia. Poland asked Japan to rescue a Polish orphan in Siberia. Japan promised to rescue immediately.
The smallest orphaned child was 2 years old. The child was crying near the dead mother. The Japanese rescued the orphan immediately. The child told the dead mother "Goodbye Mom". Japan rescued a total of 765 Polish orphans.Japan sent orphans to Japan for treatment.Orphans ate delicious and warm meals every day. All Polish orphans have recovered. Almost all Japanese donated money to save orphans. On the day of return, all 765 Polish orphans returned to Poland safely.
In 2018, an elementary school commemorating this was completed in Warsaw. Thank you Japan. God bless Japan.

The Vienna airport is just a 45 min drive from her home, but because it is in a different country she had to fly to vienna, wait for two hours for her flight to Bratislava and from there she had to go half the way back because she lived close to the border to Austria but the Bratislava airport is on the other side of the city 🤪.

Right? And so much money wasted! Same with my flight actually. We had to search for flights by ourselfs and suggest two. Mine were around 2,000€ to Berlin, Germany (~200,000¥) and I felt bad already, because I thought they were expensive (that was 10 years ago - to this month actually 😊). However, when I finally got my ticket, which took like forever, it was way over 600,000¥ 😱. I mean, I won't complain, I had a VERY pleasant flight in 'economy extra' with newspaper, Haagen Dasz ice cream and two wide seats all to myself, but honestly, someone else could have had a half year scholarship for that money 🙈.

I am super disappointed, but do you know any other scholarships that might help me apply for a specialized school? Planning to study fashion btw :)

good video.I am Polish . Do you know this story? In 1920 and 1922, Japan rescued 765 Polish orphans in Siberia.

Could you do a video for us mere mortals on how we can improve fluency? I ask because right now, still so early in my journey, I see so many people on various forums - from italki to wanikani to stackexchange - bemoaning that even after years they struggle to truly be fluent! One extreme case was someone who has been living in Japan for 20 years and said they still struggle to hold a normal conversation! Another wrote about how he flunked a job interview on the phone despite having JLPT1! That's so discouraging for a beginner like me. Yet here you are sounding like - at least for a gaijin like me - like you are one step away from having been born and gone to school there! I do have a conversation partner on italki - but it's all so very very yukkuri. I also do not rule out that some people simply have a talent - and I think you have it. For others it's a much harder slog.

I was wondering about this scholarship, so could you please explain a couple of things? I have a Master’s degree in international relations, so that would mean I have to apply for a MEXT PhD and that I would have to take all the math tests, etc? It would be logical to study something along the lines of international relations/politics for the PhD, but is it acceptable for a person applying for a scholarship? Moreover, I don’t speak any Japanese yet, but I really wanna learn it. Is there a MEXT scholarship just for learning Japanese?
