Yes because with all due respect, Digital UX/UI sort of hijacked the term "Product" Design which used to be synonymous with Industrial Design, or tangible value products. That can change however when more and more digital items (3d, nfts) gain more value despite not being in the physical world like CD's ---> MP3's --> Streaming.

Product design was hijacked by UX/UI to make them sound more understandable for non-design people and business rep ))

Industrial Designers also have their own organization (IDSA) and their own lobby in Congress as well as federal tax I’d credentials. If your planning on calling yourself an Industrial Designer, you might want to become a member so you can get access to the global member directory, and defend your credentials.

Would architectural design come under industrial/physical design ?

Architecture would fall under product design. Industrial design is anything that's mass produced. Product design I think is a broad term for designing anything

@@jaymeister26Im pretty sure industrial design is the broader term, Product design itself falls into the category of industrial design

Can one enroll in a product design or even industrial design online course/certification without having to commit to a university?

You can do online programs that warrant you Diplomas valued by hiring companies. They range from months to years and are more affordable. Some employers value the diploma more than the Degree but its important to remember that diplomas shouldn't be seen as Degree replacement.
