- This video is a tutorial on decorating pottery with under glazes and sgraffito. During the video I describe my decision making process as I apply decoration to a mug. For more clay, culture, and travel videos please visit www.talesofaredclayrambler.com.
I appreciate the way you get right to the point and include concepts about design.
A very well-done, informative video!
Thanks for sharing this for this 6 year potter. I am still a beginner at 77.

Hello Disisdkat, I got an email with a question from you on applying the slip but I can't find that comment to reply to. To answer your question, "When do you apply the slip and the underglaze (wet, leather hard, bone, bisque)?" I pour, or dip, on a deffloculated slip when the pots are leather hard. This wets the pot down. I then let it dry back to leather hard again before I apply the underglaze and sgraffito around it. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Thanks for watching.
Could you show the finished glazed cup you were working on in video?
The underglaze from China is really very good!
Very Nice! Thank you for your contribution. It would be nice if you had your link in a comment.
This video is very good but what is a light porcelain slip?
+Michelle Bell In the video I use a porcelain slip from Jingdezhen, China. You can also use this technique with any white slip that fits the clay and firing temperature that you are using.
What kind of underglaze are you using?
Hello Mackenzie, I'm using Chrysanthos underglazes. When I moved back to the U.S. I started using Amaco underglazes, which are really nice as well.
What are the materials that mix in the industry Almagi

Its decorated with ceramic under glazes. The final color is aided by the clear glaze that is applied on top.
