Thanks for the video. It is interesting that Castrol UK site recommends 5W-30 but Castrol Australia recommends 0W-40. Castrol UK only recommends 0W40 for Focus RS. Since I live in a cold part of Melbourne (Dandenong mountains), I use Castrol Edge A3/B4 5W-30 in my 2010 Focus ST/XR5. Engine runs like new after 14 years.

Yeah it is definitely interesting how they recommend 5W-30 in the UK and most of Europe, I’m the third owner of my XR5 and from all of the service history it’s always had OW40 so I’ve just stuck with it. And it seems to be working fine with no issues whatsoever, so I guess it must depend on preference possibly. The Dandenong Mountains would be a great place to live for driving roads from the sounds of it 😄
Just did a service on the XR5 today, and my old oil was pretty black like yours, however the O-Ring around the filter was also very oily, unlike yours which looked pretty much new... Also, I didn't have some of the tools needed, such as the 36mm socket for the oil filter, making the oil change a very annoying job... I used 6.5 litres of Penrite 5W-30 Fully Synthetic (I know some use 0W-40 like yourself, but I guess both are fine), and a genuine oil filter...
Nicely done, yeah the oil change isn’t a fun job especially if you didn’t have the 36MM socket for the filter that would’ve been tricky. And Penrite is perfect I just went with the Castrol as it’s what the car has had since new just to keep it consistent with all the servicing books 😄
@@TheGearChange Well I did buy the 36mm socket, but the issue was that it was too large, and I didn't really have the correct attachment for it... In the end, I got the filter off with some pliers lol... Dodgy I know, but it works at least 😂
@@TheGearChange Fair enough on keeping it consistent with the service books... Mine doesn't really have a full service history, and it seems like various grades of oil were used by the Ford dealer for some reason...

I put 6.4L in the engine, which is the amount that the service book says. It was cheaper to buy two of the 5L bottles then one 5L bottle and multiple 1 litres 😄👌🏼

@@TheGearChange I think 0w40 is good for over 300hp and better protect on cold start ,i prefer 0w40 too😃
