I fucking knew Ash was gonna be in this, you could hear his voice in the trailer and people were talking about it like some generic android and I was like "that's fucking Ash"

Not Ash, but Rook, a CGI abomination made to overwhelm you with nostalgia, so that you would turn off your brain and not notice how incredibly awful the film's script really is.

I loved this movie even though it has a couple dumb things wrong with it, like this massive space station for some reason being... completely unknown about? Don't make no sense hahaha but it doesn't break the movie for me. Also good channel.

I had a huge issue with the Harold Ramis scene in Ghostbusters as well, they stretched the scene way too far and ruined it. I wouldn't have minded if you just see him for a sec and he hugs his grand daughter and then leaves, but then he has to interact with all the other cast members and it was just bad.

Great review. I agree, this is my third favorite alien movie for sure behind alien and aliens. Puts the other movies to shame.

They thought it's a space ship and freaked out when they saw that it is an whole outpost.

There is a Fan Cut for this filme, that edition has less references to the other films, less CGI face and less endings, its called "Alien Romulus [Edição-CSJ]".

It's definitely the third best Alien movie. I sympathize with the people who said that it reused too much and didn't try anytbi g new, but I liked the human-xeno baby and think it did a much better job of it than Resurrection did, so I'll only partly agree with the critics. I can appreciate the cinservative approach under the circumstances. Considering the franchise hasn't had very many uncontroversial or particularly well liked entries in decades, they needed something that proved it could still be done, and this more or less worked to that end. Cutting out some of the more nonsensical fan service elements and exploring some of the newer stuff a little more would have made it great, but I still think it was oretty good. Ill definitely check it out again on streaming at some point.

Great review! I agree with almost every point you made. I actually have Romulus slightly above Aliens as the second best. My order is Alien, Romulus, Aliens

I had Mike Stoklasa’s experience with it.
Admittedly I went in with high expectations.
Outside the decent performances, stellar production design and good effects, this felt more like an Alien fan-film than a chapter in the franchise.
Because almost every damn sequence is lifted from better Alien movies. Even the original sequences like the acid tunnel is a riff on the sentry-gun tunnel sequence in ALIENS.
And the plot is nonsensical and makes other movies in the franchise make even less sense.
A lot is lifted from ALIENS, so first-time viewers watching these chronologically will have a lot of shit spoiled because Fede wasn’t as thoughtful as George Miller in producing a prequel/interquel.
The “you bitch” rip is unforgivable.
Plot wise, Weyland-Yutani is obsessed with xenomorphs, but leave a derelict xenomorph research station floating above the mining planet?
So in the inky vastness of space, they found a black Alien with a harpoon sticking in it from the first one?
And somehow boiled it down to black goo which they made eggs and facehuggers from? If they can do that, they know where more black goo is based on events in Prometheus and Covenant, so why obsess over Ripley in other films? Alien 3 and Resurrection were all about Ripley being the link to xenomorphs, but this movie makes that redundant and nonsensical.
    Rook was uncanny valley.
The new android is annoying, tells stupid jokes, never really uses super strength, and even when implanted with “evil” chip is talked into doing the right thing.
But despite that the android did give the best performance.
All the other actors are indistinguishable no-names I was an actively rooting for to be killed.
The main actress is probably the worst protagonist in an Alien movie.
Her performance is wooden and unmemorable.
This film did bring the franchise back to its horror-movie roots, but ALIEN was always more than just a mindless horror movie valuing style over substance.

Absolutely another disgrace from the worst moocher of the alien franchise, Ridley Scott. he hated aliens because it was an awesome sequel that made the franchise better so he set up to one up Cameron with prometheus and was laughed out by the fanbase, made covenant and it was somehow even stupider so he did romulus to finally prove that he was the lucky one to direct Alien and that without a team of talented geniuses all he can do is incredibly condescending crap like Napoleon.
      watch MauLer's review.

I don't even consider this a movie, its just Alien the Ride. No originality to it and the adult aliens were the most harmless we ever got.
    Everything original was completely superficial

Well that's certainly one way to look at it. I look at the movie as kind of a loving homage to the Alien franchise as a whole. A greatest hits compilation that was beautifully directed and executed. Sure the film does have a few too many call backs and I talk about that in my review. But overall, I was pleased to watch an Alien movie that brought back the same feel and excitement from the first two movies because I sure as hell didn't feel any of that with Ridley Scott's last two movies.
I also think Romulus doesn't get enough credit in regards to adding some new and exciting elements to the world building of the Alien universe, such as how Androids operate with new chips and the way face huggers detect its prey by their body heat. I also thought the zero gravity stuff was awesome and we've never seen anything like that before in this franchise. And most importantly, I just thought it was plain fun to watch.

Personally i would rank it below the 4 originals. Its an o.k. movie but it doesnt really bring anything. The cast, while we know from the start they are fodder are good enough. We dont get time or reason to bond to them. At least with alien 2, 3 and 4, i really liked most of the characters we worked with and wanted them to survive even though i knew they would not. And they where entertaining! It also bothers me just how easily they could leave their planet. Are no one monitoring them or paying attention? Also there is NO WAY that the company would just leave this highly expensive ship with the alien just float freely out in space! They would have eyes on that asp after loosing contact. Everything with the alien happened to fast and just dident bring the suspense from Alien 1. It dident really feel like a threat. It did bother me that it "hatched" from the chest so fast, it bothered me that it grew to adult so fast. Also suddenly there are several? Are these from the previous crew? if so why did not these hunt the cast as soon they entered? The best part of this movie was Andy. The performance was great. Rain dident do much for me. Nothing seemed to impact her. A bit of suprise at the very moment then good again the next.

I have noticed a pattern where it seems that the more a person dislikes Prometheus/Covenant, the more it praises Romulus. Im an in the former group, I think that both P and C are really good movies, not the best Alien movies, but really good movies on their own. But Romulus was such a letdown for me. Cardboard characters, boring script ( sprinkled with some nice ideas ), really dumb plotholes ( seriously, the ship these kids attempt to tresspass into and contains the "perfect organism" was simply adabandoned by Weyland/Yutani?? wtf?? ) and a godawful ending. One more thing, for all the things that Covenant failed, at least it had an AWESOME soundtrack. I do not remember one single instance in Romulus where the music was anything worth remembering.

Do you think that neither Prometheus or Covenant didn't have cardboard characters or plot holes, because that's a laugh. Lol.

    • @linuxdeveloperuy
      @linuxdeveloperuy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@nathanmoore5435 yeah I did not say they did not. Both ( but mostly Covenant ) had the dumbest "scientists" in Cinema. But also had other positives that when summed up I think both Covenant and Prometheus are better overall than Romulus. Romulus felt a lot like all other Fede Alvarez movies, for instance "Dont breathe", just an "okeyish" movie and nothing else.

@@linuxdeveloperuy My problem with Prometheus is that it tried to be a lot smarter than it actually was. It had these incredibly forced thematic elements dealing with faith and religion, but it doesn't explore those themes in any meaningful way . They're essentially used as motivation for Elizabeth Shaw to go on this space expedition, and that's it. Most of Prometheus is revolved around stupid characters getting killed in stupid ways. Alien Covenant doubles down on all of that stupidity to an even more absurd degree AND the film ruins the mysterious mythology of the xenomorphs but outright telling the audience that they were created by some angsty android. So stupid.

I bought this movie online for 17 euros. I hoped it was good. But honestly since the beginging I just could not like it at all. Good thing were the visuals and the alien looked good. But the cast, plot and the hyprid alien were garbage. Especcially the goo and hyprid alien. I hated that since the alien 4. Really the original trilogy is good but after that all of these movies have been garbage

hehe you havent heard any convincing argument to covenant because you hate it and that wont change.

    • @nathanmoore5435

True but like trying to hear people justify how it's a good movie is amusing to me because it's also something really lame like, "oh well the movie is very nihilistic which is cool." And I'm like okay? You know there are much better movies that deal with nihilism right? That's not a great argument haha. But that's fine, people can like whatever movie they want for whatever reason.

    • @orionblack
      @orionblack 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes very true. The way it seems to me is these 2 prequels was more about world (universe?) building and less about the xenomorphs, because the prequels were originally not meant to be prequels but just set in the Alienverse, about the Engineers. Biut people wanted Alien prequels and well mr Scott threw his hands up. Speaking of being set in a franchise universe, did you know Kurt Russle's Soldier movie is set in the Blade Runner universe. Yup the planet full of them soldier bodies are actually Replicants. Its not mentioned i movie though.
