The only reason reason why you and others can't see it because he is silent type and in TFP it's not so much shown his own individuality. Once he decided to go save laserbeak even if he needed to retreat, this shows he has individuality and he think for himself and others.

If that doesn't show individuality, idk what does. Man is as devoted to minicons as he is to the decepticons, if not more so.
