Damn, this is something else! I saw this instrumental tour of Me'shell's in Edmonton and stood right in front of Chris Dave the whole time. Didn't know who he was at the time and it took many years before I realized that was probably him I saw that night. I'm so stoked that it is now confirmed!! So great to have this footage of Me'shell as the only bassist on stage and tearing the hell out of the role!!
Interesting to see how Metheny can reveal in rare context (which are not about is own writing) a way to improvise who could almost be something else from him . I mention that about the second improvisation cause the first one is just everything we perfectly know. I’m also thinking about the Gary Thomas record where I thought he was about reinventing his own language but finally after the work , everything came back as usual. Anyway this second solo his really something !
This is a great point. To that end- have you heard TAP: Book Of Angels?? Check that out here on TH-cam…. It’s music composed by John Zorn, but performed entirely by Pat Metheny & Antonio Sanchez. Amazing album and yeah that magical thing of hearing a fully formed artist voice playing another’s compositions
Unbelievable ... Invocation is just what it says ... Meshell, Pat, Chris -three masters of time and feel ... this the most funky dig Metheny has been into ever, it must seem.
I like to hear Metheny play the Roland GR synth. He’s not as good a Fripp but he has an expressive voice on it. Hate the way he holds the pick, what the hell is with this awkward grip?
I don't get musicians who spend time putting down other musicians. And if you're going to do that, you better be the standard bearer. On the other hand, take George Benson; he's a virtuoso, yet he only praises other musicians. George will tell you to your face, he'll steal from you, which means that even a lowly beginner has something of value to offer. Pat finds fault in others
Don't learn about Keith Jarrett, or Wynton Marsalis. There are a lot of jazz gatekeepers for such a niche unpopular musical form. They have their reasons.
Metheny is objectively one of the greatest but by god every time I hear him he sounds like a boring, straighty one eighty rambling homeless guy on the guitar.
Man, I guess you got some acid or some shit. Go listen to some music that fits your ears or tell us who the greatest guitarists in the world are. I recommend you listen to Taylor Swift's latest hit song. Maybe you can understand that one.
When I was in college he played a concert, and his digital guitar broke down. Will never forget how disrupted the new technology was. How far it’s come.
This might sound controversial. But to me, Joe Zawinul and Pat Metheny are the only "white" musician I've seen that seem to have the ability to tap into the African ancestors for inspiration when they're playing.
Branford Marsalis said he's been all over Africa and NOBODY is swinging on the continent. If it came from there why is no one swinging now? Latin music swings like never before but Africa is pretty silent on the swinging front.
Finally .. Pat Metheny with a challenging group of funk jazz rock musicians..Great results..LOL
That might be the most worthless statement I've ever read.
Meshell is a groove titan. Love the tone, deep and distinctive ❤
meshell is a SICK bassist! love pat's understated wailing distorted solo!
What the?? This is a dynamite killa groove!!
All dynamic performers, diggin the blend!!
When worlds collide! This is the greatest collaboration I’ve seen/heard in many years.
completely!
DITTO!!!
My TWO FAVS ‘JAMMIN’!!!!! 💜💜💜💜🙏✨✨✨
You know, Meshell just digs the groove to the bottom of the earth.... & then hearing Pat on top, omg!!!!
Fifteen seconds in: quick thumbs-up👍🏾
Two of my fav artists together ! Thanks👍🏼
Oh boy. Man I was right there. This was the second act after Eric truffaz. Went until 1:30 am. Amazing stuff

Wow! I never knew they played together. This is great.
Yeah! Pat actually guested on one of her albums, 'The World Has Made Me the Man of My Dreams', from 2007.
Wow Metheny`s tone is like a horn ... amazing
Roland GUITAR SYNTH 😉
Pat started messing with it, and MADE IT HIS OWN!!! (OFFRAMP ‘82)
th-cam.com/video/cGQD_Uz_EJ4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4V98L648-eGrPWq_
that's his guitar synthesizer sound...I believe he's been using that since the 80s
@@christianwagenseil9621since the 70s. He was an early adopter of the Roland GR. It’s the reason I’m watching this video.
Allan Holdsworth also played horn-like lines, also played a synth guitar (the Synthaxe) a lot.
@@skierpage I prefer Robt. Fripp immensely. Metheny is ok.
woo this is so good what an iconic collab
Ditto❤
LOVE me some P.M.❤❤❤To jam with any of them.....priceless❤
Tema complejo solo para expertos. Grandes músicos 💯
dreams so real
Lol all the people thatve never heard Chris Dave before
I’m hip!! Dude was even out kold in the late 90’s, incredible Drummer!!!
No surprise here. These people are on fire.

Chris Dave on drums. This a great jam.

Brilliant!
WOW thanks for sharing
Amazing
Awesome
Grande band,Grande Pat Metheny.Chiedo se è possibile avere il concerto completo.Grazie
Do you have more of this, Nelson? (thanks, hermano)
Surprising.....why ? My only surprise is that this should have been a CD and wasn't !

One chord so far
Shows how painfully ignorant you are.
Excessive drumming

If only he'd had a lesson from you..... All that potential wasted😢.

@@skierpage I'm sure they have their reasons, but Metheny being a jazz fusion guitarist and a jazz gatekeeper is ironic.
Looks like Katlyn Jenner on guitar!
Great player but he has the worst guitar tone ever
Ever think maybe it's a subjective preference? And perhaps worst is a sad over exaggerated TH-camr cliche? We do.
So overplaying drumming.
Yeah, they need to tie at least one of his hand’s behind his back.
Chris Dave long hair/tom tom mode cannot be tamed. His snares form is more subtle and experimental.
@@binobones He's not the kind of drummer Metheny would use to accompany him, his music style is very subtle.
Disagree . Tune calls for it
The drumming brought energy and made both compositions pop.
Why the Kennedy Center hasn't inducted him is a crime.
I can't believe I've never seen this before. Just incredible.
meshell is the maestro
Yes indeed...and she keeps the groove in the pocket and the head bopping like nobody's business.
Metheny & MeShell …..A MAGICAL MIX!!!💜💜💜
Love her bass tone.
That second tune was incredible, the harmonic juxtapositions between bass, keys and guitar.
Agree 100%!
“Daddy” Dave
This is my very first time seeing this. Why?
Really!!!!!…..2006??😳
Amazing...i remember talking to Pat just few days before this concert!
Bold of Pat going full Offramp over the contemplative Dorian thing the band is laying down on the second tune
This is SO Amazing!!!! I love ❤️ This Collaboration of #SoulJazz!✌🏽 #MeshelNdegeocello #PM🔥
So wish more musicians would do this...
I wonder if they had a convo before this, because it sounds like he is a member of the band.
Somebody tell the drummer that he's already got the gig!
That's Chris Dave. He's had plenty of gigs. Don't you worry.

If I could get Chris Dave on just one of my gigs!! 😮

His first time playing w Metheny 🎸🥁💯🤷🏽♂️. He on one! 💯😂 Audience is groovin though
I've never liked the synth tone he uses. It's terrible.

The Bass Line !!
Funkiest thing remember Pat doing . Sax player shreds
This is epic.
💙🌺🌱🙄
I always hated when Pat played Synth Axe, I like him on guitar ... Didn't know Toure' played keyboards 😜..Michelles bass tone was nice !!!
I used to hate it when he played that Roland Synth Guitar with the Trumpet setting cuz it was a tic out of tune ...a lot better now .😃
Did Pat Metheny ever play a synth axe ?
@@OndrausCissell It was the Roland Synth when he went through his Ornette Colemen phase !

Chick corea , pastorius
Pat once said he was inspired by Wes Montgomery and would practice emulating him.
