    I hope you listen to her sister album next, Evermore. That is great, too. The deluxe songs on there are great.

    Epiphany makes me relive working through covid and hearing the horror stories from the Covid ICU nurses and the PTSD they have from that experience. It’s a beautiful, heavy song. For sure. And the strings at the end always sound like monitors to me.

    I can see what you’re saying about The Lakes and the Beatles. It kind of has a Strawberry Fields Forever or Eleanor Rigby type vibe . Not necessarily in the sound design but in the way it captures a feeling of ethereal sadness and whimsy at the same time

    Another great set of reactions. Of course you don't need to do a full song-by-song reaction to "The Long Pond Sessions" movie, but I strongly recommend at least watching it for your own entertainment, and I would love to hear a brief overview type of reaction to the movie, if you are willing to do that.

    The Lakes is actually a bonus track from the deluxe edition - the standard version of Folklore ends with Hoax, so I'm glad she added a slightly more hopeful ending afterwards 😅
    Taylor also mentions The Lakes in Invisible String, where she's referencing a trip she took with Joe Alwyn to the Lake District (in England we just refer to this as "the lakes" anyway). To me the second verse of The Lakes is about Scooter Braun taking ownership of her music, and I think the 'insurmountable grief' is about that too.

      Cool take on The Lakes. Thank you!

  • @carolla_michelle
    @carolla_michelle ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hoax for me moves from the betrayal of Scott Borchetta more so than Scooter. Scott was someone who should’ve stuck by her so the betrayal cuts deep. My kingdom come undone very much gives that impression to me. I also think it alludes to her relationship with Joe too, don’t want no other shade of blue but you. Perhaps it was a lament to what she went through at this time, she should’ve been happy and secure but the hoax of it all was all pervading. Just some thoughts, I don’t know for sure

    • @MusicDadReacts

      These are great insights. I didn't know about Scott or his role in this. Now I know more.

    I think she’s saying that I have all this shit with the reputation stuff, the scoter- stuff and so on.. But she doesn’t care. She only want him (Joe) his shade of blues, he’s her kingdom come. Being with you is all that matters.

    First I have loved this series of reactions. And second, I do think the Long Pond Studio Sessions is definitely worth the watch. I would certainly watch a video of you reacting to it but even just to watch it on your own I think it's worth it. Taylor and her two main collaborators Jack and Aaron give explanations or commentary about the songs and the meaning behind them and then you get to see them play it live. Those explanations give a lot of fun insight, some of which Rachel shared with you during these reactions, but I also just love watching the intimate acoustic live performances. So if you plan on watching those then you can skip the next part of this comment since you'll see it all when you watch it. But in case you're not going to watch it: Yes The Long Pond Studio Sessions does provide more illumination about what Hoax is about. Taylor isn't super specific but she does confirm that she was thinking about several different situations when writing the lyrics. So that would explain why in some lines the "you" seems to be Scooter Braun or Scott Borchetta and that betrayal and why other times the "you" she is singing to seems to be a lover. She also confirms that in her mind Betty and James do get back together and that Cardigan is actually written years later reflecting on that tumultuous time in their relationship. I think that explains why Cardigan is by far the most "mature" song in the live triangle - it is actually written from the most mature perspective of a grown woman whereas August and Betty are written from the perspective of 17-year-old kids.

      Thank you so much! Long Pond Studio Sessions is definitely on my watch list now. From what I've been able to figure out, it's a challenge to include it in a TH-cam video due to copyright. But perhaps we could do a short review of it.

    Did you catch in Betty that James is saying that the whole thing started because he saw her dancing with another boy? So he was walking home hurt and upset and then August pulled up and he ended up making a bad decision based on how he felt.

    Hello my friend!!!...No one better than you, to make a reaction video and analyze this incredible singer, with an stunning range voice, who is leaving all the experts, literally with their jaws on the floor (Do you remember Jim Carrey's movie "The Mask"? well, just like that)...In 2017, a 22-year-old singer from Kazakhstan, named Dimash Kudaibergen, was invited to participate in the famous Chinese program for professional singers called "The Singer".... In his first appearance, Dimash covered one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse"...Since then all this madness began on the internet, TH-cam and social networks worldwide and he is already considered the best singer on the entire planet... It is almost impossible to see a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges of 8 octaves, that is, the 88 keys of a digital piano, which allows him to reach all registers, both masculine and feminine, that is, he can sing as Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Contratenor, Contralto, Mezzosoprano and Soprano...You can see in TH-cam to all kinds of experts (Vocal coaches, analysts, singing teachers, singers, youtubers, reactors, etc.), who have dedicated themselves to watching his videos and verifying for themselves that what is said about him is completely true...In addition to all this, Dimash is capable of singing in more than 12 languages...In all his concerts worldwide, tickets are sold in just seconds, via the internet, due to the immense popularity he has worldwide... Anyway, I think you haven't met this impressive singer yet, so here is the link to the first song that Dimash performed in China in that year 2017, the song S.O.S., and if it doesn't bother you, I would like you to mention me as the person who recommended it to you...Warning: You have to be prepared for thousands of views, comments and new subscribers....The video It is more recent, so it does not have the millions of views that the first ones, but it is more complete, including an intro, subtitles in several languages and better audio and sound quality...th-cam.com/video/bDX3FhmyNac/w-d-xo.html

    I think Hoax has a double meaning. One side is not autobiographical and is about a woman staying in a relationship when she knows her partner has cheated but she still loves him so she stays ("...your faithless love's the only hoax I believe in"). The other side is speaking to Scott Borchetta who's the one who sold her music to Scooter Braun. Borchetta is the one who hurt her most because he betrayed her - and I think she addresses this in the bridge (...what you did was just as dark") saying he hurt her as much as the whole Kanye thing and that time in her life, but he hurt her even more so because they had a close working relationship and friendship. So I think this song is similar to "My Tears Ricochet" in that it can be interpreted as a song about a relationship or personally about her and her experience with Kanye/Borchetta/Braun.

      Oh ok. I knew of Scooter when we recorded this just from picking up things from what Rachel has said and seeing some news headlines, but I didn't know about Scott. Thanks for the info. It's interesting. Sad for her. But I like how she used it to make some great songs.
