Wow Rolex design team must have worked a full day to come up with slightly different designs. And that see through back on the Daytona is almost groundbreaking 🥴
That was the 1st one I thought about buying 12 yrs ago. Put it off figuring it would never be hard to get. Oh well. It will be interesting to watch the flippers jack up the prices - then realize most people who like it won’t pay over MSRP.
I was "on the list" for an Explorer when it was 39mm. I got the call about 18 months later, but they had downsized it to 36mm. Too small to my liking for my 7.5" (19 cm) wrist. So, I turned it down. To hear they have added a 40mm version is good news to me. I'm currently sporting a Grand Seiko SGBE201 GMT with Spring Drive, so I won't miss any Rolex.
They spent more time on the graphics for the website than they did on actual innovation over the course of a year. Sadly, but unsurpringly, this is not a brand that innovates anymore, they just change the colors, materials, and dimensions of already existing models and people praise them for it for some reason. I mean, a clear caseback? How in the world did they think of that?! 🥴
Couldn't disagree more. The brand is exceptionally exciting and has done wonders for the wider watch market by simply genius marketing. The watches are an engineering and visual marvel. Not to the quality and craftsmanship like Patek by any means but you can't knock Rolex
@@jurdles3 if you can name 5 big innovations they've done in the past 10 years that aren't to do with changing the colors, materials, or sizes of already existing models, I'll be impressed. Rolexs are nice and all but they can't innovate for the life of them anymore, they're just marketing gurus who overcharge for what they make. They're doing 10x better with their tudor models
Love the new gold and black GMT Love the green dial Skydweller in steel (with jubilee) Agree with you on the bedazzled daydates. Wish they weren’t with Roman numerals and diamonds. Then they’d be lovely Sad to see the milgauss go (I own the z blue), but I guess not unexpected and will return in a few years. Most sad to see the meteorite Daytona disappear. Loved this watch and had been waitlisted for a year. Oh well!

I like that they are offering the Explorer in 40mm. Also, it's cool that Rolex is finally offering Display Casebacks. And, the new 37mm Tudor Black Bay 54 is cool.
I'm glad that this year's updates are not just superficial, but rather focused on the internal mechanisms. The advancements in the movement are truly exciting, and signify a brand that continues to thrive and innovate. good job Rolex
The Skydweller also has a new movement. Both the Daytona and the Skydweller now have the chronergy escapement like the 3200 series movements so we'll see if Rolex has fixed their issues.
The 1908 looks amazing. Perfect replacement for the Cellini and a competitor for the Calatrava. At 39 inches it is perfect. Can’t understand some people’s obsession with miniature dials.
This wasn’t a day for new releases. This was a days for the Rolex reduction. The Daytona lineup is now the most boring among Rolex portfolio. The RG blue Sky looks pretty, but then again the sky is a giant turd that doesn’t work in the real world in full precious metal. Not a single watch from Rolex I desire at the moment😔 So happy there are other exiting brands.
Interesting to see what are doing. I like the one with all the colours on the dial, but only available in 30mm! Please can you do a video on whatever Panerai do this year?
Nice round up :) You can opt to have the Day-Date 36 with fluted bezel and orange dial (instead of diamond bezel!) - but you do get diamonds on the dial still...
I don't like anything they released. I would have been all over the day-dates if they didn't have the diamond bezel. I like the ice blue Daytona but that's well outside my budget and I'd never get one anyways because of the waiting list so , yeah, Rolex struck out to me.
So, to sum up… they copied Omega adding a bezel insert and exposition back to the Daytona, they have a new non-perpetual Cellini (that isn’t a Cellini) that still no one will buy, added some more gold and colors for those that like to show off more, and they killed their most “Rolex” Rolex, by making their best watch, the Explorer in 40mm… but no actual watchmaking innovations? For example, still no perpetual movement? At least the Milgauss is gone (although this was a few years coming)! Balloons in a watch dial don’t do it for me though….
None of these seem that exciting, certainly not in light of Rolex's abuse of their customers. Given that their new line looks like a vintage Rolex from the 60s (or maybe a Longines), I don't see much radical innovation there either. But people will buy them so I guess it doesn't really matter what Rolex does ... for now.
If I had to pick only one 2023 Rolex watch to buy assuming I have the money and I can get directly from AD now, my pick would be the 42mm Yacht master titanium.
So glad some people appreciate the more fun designs in the lineup. A number of people seem to have gotten tilted by them. They're not for me since some of the color choices aren't to my personal taste, but I appreciate that they exist and are being made. If we're losing the Milgauss then at least there's still something more out there in the offering
The milgauss hasnt changed in years, same watch every year, black dial milgauss was my 3rd watch, i currently own a white dial , i was planning on icing out the case with loose stones i have , also put a alligator strap on it,
Clear case back was the only thing that made me not want a Rolex. I like mechanical watches for the movements, otherwise I might as well just buy a quartz. So they definitely won me over with that. (Not that Rolex cares, or I'll be able to buy one from the AD).
BB54 is a nice size. the new BB however... just looks like an option for a jubilee, METAS over COSC and 15,000 gauss. It's not earth shattering but at the same time it's a $500 or less upgrade and the anti-magnetic might make that upgrade worth it. If they were being greedy they could have bumped the price by a grand or more. I wanna like the tudor royal but good luck with the integrated bracelet and no micro adjust. At least that's what it looks like.
Also something that is missing from the Date Just is the MOP dial . It is only available now on the Day Date. The New Sky Dweller dials in Mint Green and Blue Green are amazing as well as the New Titanium Yacht Master is beautiful . I was shocked at no new Submariner’s at all, but that just means Rolex May just release a 75 Year Anniversary Submariner later in the year that will blow our minds . Did you notice the Tudor Black Bay 54 ? They basically brought back the Tudor Submariner in 37mm without calling it the Submariner . It’s the original Tudor Sub and with 200 meters as well and on an Oyster Flex style of rubber strap or Stainless Steel bracelet . I think that this will be the the dive watch that more woman will love to wear as well . My Girlfriend got the Yacht Master 37mm Rhodium dial and Platinum bezel for Christmas and now the New Tudor black Bay 54 in 37mm will definitely be an upcoming watch for her wrist . The Daytona with see through Caseback on the Platona is just the beginning , I feel we will see the caseback coming in other models as well in the coming years especially the GMT Master II ( Maybe the New Coke will finally have a see through Caseback in the near future .
Finally Rolex found out about Display Casebacks.That's a progress.The 1908 is a very interestng watch.About 23K the price.Ι can feel your excitement.Milgauss is a love-hate watch but different and interesting.Pepsi if it's discontinued it's a mistake.It's a legent.
Yes! I am happy! Hahaha looking forward to the 40mm Explorer, the 36mm is just too small for my wrist and I’ve always loved it! Great history and great classic design!
Biggest deal in my opinion is the case redesign for the Daytona and FINALLY making the steel and two tone cases symmetrical following years of only the precious metal cases being symmetrical.
I really expected a Milgauss upgrade rather than a discontinuation. I just bought my first and only Rolex last week the Milgauss Z Blue. So sad that's it's discontinued but hopefully it appreciates in value. The others I'm excited for are the sky-dweller on the oysterflex and the rose gold/blue sky-dweller. I'm not in the market for a solid gold watch but rose and blue is the best color combination and it looks amazing. As for the oysterflex it would be great to have the skydweller on the rubber band.
@@BufanMuayThai That'd be great but I've wanted one for years so I'm glad I got one now. No doubt a much better release than last year. I have been hoping for an entirely new Rolex line for such a long time, and this time they delivered. The new 1908 also has an exhibition case-back btw.
Feels like Tudor and Rolex have switched places this year. Tudor more serious and smaller upgrades, Rolex going wild with see through cases, titanium and crazy color op and that love day date. I love it.
Great job. Exo caseback! New petrol Skydweller. Ti Yachtmaster - that was the biggest surprise. Woke up in the middle of the night here in the States - going to be a long day!
They did discontinue the platinum Daytona all clean baguette dial without the subdials. Instead, all current platinum Daytonas have the brown subdials. I like the discontinued version better, looks cleaner and accentuates the diamonds baguettes better.
Not surprised by the discontinuation of the Meteorite Cosmograph. It was hard to get initially and throughout its time being 'available'. Glad to see it being discontinuted even though I've been placed on the list since its launch and never got a call from my AD. 😥
Overall, Rolex did great this year. The Perpetual 1908 is better than the Cellini. I like the open case back on that and the Daytona Platinum. The revised Daytona is like a revised 911, only the hardcore notice the changes. I'm excited about the Explorer 40. I did not like the 36 on wrist and thought the 39 was great on wrist. I know the OP 41 is smaller than 41 when measured, so I'm curious to see if the 40 is smaller too. I love the 40mm Omega Railmaster size as well. I am hoping it works for me, as my AD already submitted my interest in it. The gold and Rolesor GMT Master IIs are perfect, even if a bit flashy for me to buy. The Celebration OP is fun, though obviously not targeted at me. That's puzzle day date is great as well. Rolex is bringing the young and fun feel, while Tudor went conservative this year.
Just wanted to say I like the somewhat "casual" video style. Your personality really comes through and it is very enjoyable. As far as the releases, my favorite is the 1908. What a gorgeous dress watch with vintage vibes. Right up my alley.
Glad the Pepsi hasn’t been discontinued. The TT GMT doesn’t look too bad tbh. Don’t mind the changes to the Daytona either! Not the biggest fan of the OP though.
It's better that way. Plus the amount of gold they saved was probably a few grams at best, not exactly a huge savings. Plus that makes it a bit easier to spot fakes if you can see the movement without taking it to a jeweler... not to mention you can see the movement which I feel is the whole point of having a mechanical watch.
I said in your last blog that Milgauss was a keeper for Rolex. Well I was wrong and will the price rise on them now. I know a watch dealer on one of the channels whose been collecting Milgauss over last few years.
Well… the discounting of the white dial MG didn’t do anything for the price other than drop. When the dust has settled, the MG will be just another watch there was…

Rolex is currently set up to sell to the grey market. Not you. Not I
@@RootBeerGMT well I can’t complain, I’ve gotten everything I’ve asked for.
So happy I got the Milgauss just before Christmas. The OP is my favourite. Love the fun of it.
Rolex never fails to disappoint.
That’s because you’re not on a 4 year waitlist for a sub
@@acewings221 .... I've had my Sub since 1967 :)
I'll miss the Milgauss! This year's line up is pretty cool though
Love your pronunciation of Rolex.
Never wanted to wear a Rolex, and now I want the oyster perpetual. That watch is so cool
the see through case back is clearly a cost cutting move by rolex, a full platinum case back for a gold rotor, well played rolex well played
I doubt cost cutting was a consideration on their most expensive catalog anniversary model in platinum.
Lol just yesterday walked by a Milgauss, which was for sake easily. Maybe I should head back to the store directly now 😂
I said in your last blog that Milgauss was a keeper for Rolex.
Well I was wrong and will the price rise on them now.
I know a watch dealer on one of the channels whose been collecting Milgauss over last few years.
Well… the discounting of the white dial MG didn’t do anything for the price other than drop. When the dust has settled, the MG will be just another watch there was…
If you couldn’t decide which OP color you wanted now you can have them all 😎!
I really like see through case backs. I want a sunburst blue datejust 41mm with fluted dial and a see through case back.
GMT has two-tone bezel, black and gray.. ;)
"with a Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic, an entirely new colour combination."
i thought the bezel on the new GMTII was black and grey?
