I’m so thankful people still have the courage to attempt it, it’s a very hopeful sentiment; the necessity of the American outlaw❤️ And I loved your idea of using older, cheaper cars, of doing the run purely for fun, a beautiful notion.
I agree, because when you listen to the drivers talk about their runs, you know they're normal, logical people, not some psychopaths or anything. They are breaking the law without really doing anything particularly "wrong". It's just living proof that following or not following the rules has nothing to do with being a good/moral person, and that the law isn't the highest force in the universe.
@@illinoisvisuals There's absolutely no need to qualify the illegality. Is it moral? Not even slightly. Just accept that it's an activity that involves breaking the law up and down. Do we acknowledge that? Of course. Do we care? Nope. But there's no need to sugar coat it.
Imagine if there was no speed limit on the Interstate. All the need for radar jammers, and police scanners. Would go away, reducing the weight of the car. Plus allowing for a good run in an un modified car. Although the need for more fuel stops is a thing.
im from germany, as u might know most of our Highways/Interstates (dont know the exact difference, in germany we call it "Autobahn") have no speed limit and i think thats beautiful. Maybe its because in germany we have MercedesBenz, Porsche, BMW, VW and other cars but this feeling of freedom when you go 250km/h (about 160mph) its just gorgeous.
Must be nice. Also we call them freeways in general. Interstate is the American equivalent to the Bundesautobahn. Essentially a grade seperated federally funded highway network.

Maybe it would be less incriminating to video the Silver State run for the public. If the state highway patrol are workin the race, they probably won't bug anyone too much.
Im interested about how much did the car consume oil during the rally. It has a big engine, and going max speed for hours, and many miles must lead to some oil evaporating somewhere.
No lie I like the solo run the best, since it makes it possible since most people don't have access to the "proprietary" information. That solo run did it with no frills and just made it across. Mind you by himself LOL
it will be a very long time before we see ev batteries good enough to beat an ice. fossil fuels aint going nowhere for a while, and even then biofuels are gonna take its place.
I was thinking about this. These guys use like m5 or e63 but why not try e350 or bmw 540/535d? Better fuel economy it can do 250 kmh/h or even 300 km/h but spenda like 10 liters less i mean why not try diesel car?
Great story, adding a few new details to my limited knowledge of the current Cannonball culture. I had read about one of the covid runs, but I hadn't heard of this one yet. That's a disappointing snafu at the end. But I like your take on Cannonball in general, and my view is pretty close to that. Most people -- even most people who would have the inclination and equipment to attempt it -- shouldn't attempt breaking the record. But I do like the idea of doing it with different "rules" or unique cars. ("Oddball Cannonball"?) Any good road trip is, as you said about this one, about the experience, not the final time or breaking a record. After all, life's about the journey, not the destination. It's a cliche, but it's true… and important.
you would probably appreciate the The 2904 editions of the cannonball run. Drive the 2904 miles from New York City to California for $2904 including the vehicle, fuel, food, tools, repairs, and tickets. safety items, insurance etc, aren't part of the $2904 budget
I don't live in the US, but if I were to do this, I'd go unique and try to do the fasted LEGAL cannonball, no breaking the speedlimits. That way, you don't need police scanners, you can have away with spotters, you will get MUCH better fuel economy so you can do it with no stops, and you can do it with two people easy enough; just wait till you're on a long straight, use cruise control (very handy), hold the wheel for the driver while they slide back, climb into the rear, then you climb into their seat. Diesel will become very powerful in this style of run, or maybe even a hybrid where power isn't everything, especially if you can fit a big fuel cell in the boot. Then, you can make some real whacky engine swaps to help make this easier. I'd love to use a diesel engine swapped RX7, a light car with a very low coefficient of drag, it would gobble miles up like nothing at all!
I hope you cover some of those oddball Cannonball stories you mentioned at some point. Those honestly seem more interesting to me than just sending it in an S8 or an M5. As for the M5, if I’m honest, it just strikes me as a numbers car. 600 hp! Fast < 3 s 0-60! Amazing G’s! But behind the wheel on everyday roads, about as much fun as that maroon Subaru Legacy. There’s just something...missing. A fun quality at everyday speeds on public roads, I guess.

0:02 Turns check engine light on*
Hearing that S63 just singing right from the start was enough for me. Haha. Love the cannonball series.
Do they post any footage of these cannonball runs or is it too incriminating?
Definitely not ready to show much more for a while
Maybe it would be less incriminating to video the Silver State run for the public. If the state highway patrol are workin the race, they probably won't bug anyone too much.
6:51 Ah, the classic cut in front of someone THEN signal when turning into empty road space.
13:21. Only binaural people put microphones, not speakers/headphones, in their ears.
Any car that can sit at 300 km/h for ten minutes without breaking a sweat is a monster machine.
The SR-71 did the cannonball run in 67 minutes 54 seconds
😂
Yup, but they ran halfway to Hawaii before they could get it out of high gear and turn back to Redondo Beach!! ;^)
As Benz owner I gotta admit that bmw knows how to make a very good looking sports car.
Congrats to the team!!! Another great video from Tedward!
7:05 engine light
can I watch the footage anywhere?
I have been toying with the idea of publishing full runs in addition to the doc that I''m producing. But we still need to wait a while
@@TedwardDrives was the reason for the CEL light coming on?
I am loving these cannonball car videos.
"Cajun" junction LOL
7:05 aaaaah there it is the check engine light I was waiting for it
What's that watch you're wearing?
A borrowed Tudor black bay 58
Ah I see you're a man of culture Tedward.
@@TedwardDrives nice
Its crazy these guys do it in almost one DAY across the country. Last time I drove To Cali from Philly it took me 1 day and 18 hours....
When are we getting a cannon ball prius or Miata?
It has no badges, but the way I knew it was a BMW is because as soon as he got on it at 7:07 the engine light came on in typical BMW fashion.
Im interested about how much did the car consume oil during the rally. It has a big engine, and going max speed for hours, and many miles must lead to some oil evaporating somewhere.
Heartbreaking that they didn't take the win, but tremendous effort nonetheless!!
No lie I like the solo run the best, since it makes it possible since most people don't have access to the "proprietary" information. That solo run did it with no frills and just made it across. Mind you by himself LOL
You're a bug, and you're chilling and suddenly you get flattened against a white BMW going 180 MPH.
😂
...No longer a bug .... just atoms...
Great review guys, I hope we get to hang out soon
If an EV could break this record then that's a good sign for me to buy an EV.
I believe the current EV record is 46 hours, so as of yet there is no good sign to buy an EV for breaking the current fossil record.
it will be a very long time before we see ev batteries good enough to beat an ice. fossil fuels aint going nowhere for a while, and even then biofuels are gonna take its place.
I’m a motorcycle guy, but I love hearing how these guys plan out and do this run. Wonder how many times they need to stop for gas?
this run was a 5 stopper
I love how he has a police sticker on the back windshield lol
Its actually a blue lives matter sticker, which kinda doesn't make sense in this situation 🤔
Is it irony at this point?
Tedward Your Videos Its Amazing
Imagine a diesel VW Golf wagon for a cannonball run. A few upgrades on the engine and brakes. Tons of room for auxiliary tanks. Good fuel economy.
I was thinking about this. These guys use like m5 or e63 but why not try e350 or bmw 540/535d? Better fuel economy it can do 250 kmh/h or even 300 km/h but spenda like 10 liters less i mean why not try diesel car?
lol @ the check engine light coming on at 7:05 as soon he's getting on the highway.
("Oddball Cannonball"?)
Any good road trip is, as you said about this one, about the experience, not the final time or breaking a record. After all, life's about the journey, not the destination. It's a cliche, but it's true… and important.
Respect
you would probably appreciate the The 2904 editions of the cannonball run. Drive the 2904 miles from New York City to California for $2904 including the vehicle, fuel, food, tools, repairs, and tickets. safety items, insurance etc, aren't part of the $2904 budget
@@fcscouto - I hadn't heard of that variation. Actually sounds like a cool idea!
“Legal cannonball” that takes away the fun of it lmao
I hope you cover some of those oddball Cannonball stories you mentioned at some point. Those honestly seem more interesting to me than just sending it in an S8 or an M5. As for the M5, if I’m honest, it just strikes me as a numbers car. 600 hp! Fast < 3 s 0-60! Amazing G’s! But behind the wheel on everyday roads, about as much fun as that maroon Subaru Legacy. There’s just something...missing. A fun quality at everyday speeds on public roads, I guess.
Ill still have it over the Subaru 😂
@@TedwardDrives Oh I would too haha. But the M5 just needs something...more. The personality factor is missing to me. Needs some E63ness in its DNA...
Owning a BMW M5 in any year is my dream.
7:06 why the check engine light came on 😂
I got my M4 tuned at Bren!!! That’s crazy.
Surprised a BMW could even run for that long ;)
so were we!
Lol the police flag sticker on the back left of the car to suck up to cops has me dying 😂
Anything to just keep moving 😂
Oh baby i love bmw’s
