I am so happy you pinned this against the Fluance RT85. I am VERY attracted to the U-Turn but the Fluance has auto-stop and the Ortofone 2M Blue. I almost went with the Fluance RT85 but I've decided to pull the trigger on the U-Turn! Thanks for a great down-to-earth review!
Excellent review. With all the love that vinyl has been getting lately, turntables may be the way into stereo for lots of folks these days. Nice for newbies that the phono preamp works well.
This new Orbit, especially with the new arm, is probably very close to the Rega P2 I have. It would be interesting to see a comparison of the two using the same cartridge on each.
I have to say the Orbit Gen 2 is a much better table than I expected it to be. It's as good or better than most in this price range. The simplicity is nice, no offensive noises, no issues, clean and sounds great. The P2 is also a good table and I think it comes down to personal pref. There is no right or wrong, go with the heart.
I just bought a Pro-ject T1 that I'm going to return because the built-in anti-skate doesn't work properly. My T1 is perfectly level yet when I test the anti-skate the tonearm rapidly moves towards the spindle. On a couple of occasions the stylus has jumped out of the runout groove and onto center label of an album. I'd like to consider a U-Turn to replace the T1 but I'm gun shy of any turntable without adjustable anti-skate. For that reason alone I'm leaning towards the RT85.

It's actually gen 3. Gen 1 was a kickstarted as a unipivot design tonearm. Gen 2 used a gimbal design for the tonearm.

if you have the acrylic platter that comes with it, do you still need to use a felt malt (i think one comes with it too)
I can hardly wait for European audiophiles to take notice of U-Turn Audio turntables.
What about auto lift at end of play? The Flounce 85 has that feature.
The Fluence RT 85 does not have auto lift at the end of play it turns off the platter motor which is pretty convenient, but it’s not with auto lift.
Doesn't have that. Some will want that feature. Most tables today, I'd say 90% of them do not have an auto stop or lift. It's a rarity indeed.
Still have old Technics automatic 1600mk2 & got lucky getting a Technics M1A
