There are four main philosophies when it comes to Challenge charts. 1) The 4thMIX+ school of thought, where certain old songs were given new Maniac (now Expert) charts. Most of these were converted to Challenge charts in later installments, with the old Maniac charts being restored. 2) The DDRMAX(2)/EXTREME school of thought (you are here). These Challenge charts were originally meant for courses, and weren't necessarily as hard as their Expert counterparts. In Sakura's case it's barely harder than the DSP. 3) The SuperNOVA-and-beyond school of thought. These are Challenge charts that are just plain harder than their Expert counterparts. This is where most modern Challenge charts fall today. 4) The gimmick charts. Mostly shock arrow charts, but also stuff like Prey CSP and FELM CSP'S jumps galore, or Trip Machine Phoenix having an ESP and CSP with wildly different styles but practically equal difficulty.

How’s Expert gonna be harder than Challenge?
