I have just ordered the same car for delivery on the 1st Sept 2020. I have been watching various videos on youtube but this video is the best by far. It was very thorough and exactly what i needed to see. Keep up the great work! Top man.
Hi Mark, There is buckets of room Behind me! Enough for an adult on a shorter trip. My seat is all the way back but its the first car I have felt the need raise the seat up. about 4-5 clicks from the lowest point. And the recline is about 2 fulls turns from bolt upright. My nephews child seat is behind me and there is tons of room to play with!
Great vid, thanks for all the detail. I have a Tig in order, I’ve had three Golf GTIs in a row and needed a change as I’ve moved to the country, with rutted roads, muddy surfaces and poorly maintained car parks full of potholes. I’ve ordered the 230 TSI R-Line Tech. Same performance as the Golf, even more toys (if that were possible) and better ground clearance - what’s not to like?! Should be here in a few weeks and cannot wait. I’ve seen your update vid at 17000 miles and it just confirms this is absolutely the right choice of car for me. Cheers!
Mark Clothier I honestly wish I had bought a club sport 40 GTI before my Audi S3, As its a car I’ve always wanted to own! The Tiguan is a fantastic car still and now on 26k! Im waiting until we get the 300ps Tiguan at the end of the year to upgrade!
Cracking video. Really appreciate the look around. I've bought my tiguan r line and get it in the summer but couldn't actually get a look around one. Just saw the more basic models but by the time I added the extras I want it was crazy not to go for it because it comes with everything you need and looks great doing it! Thanks again!
Really interesting video pal. We are going to test.drive one just like that on Sunday. I feel like I have a head start now after watching your video. Cheers
Your reviews are better than 90% of the other car tube videos. One critic is your camera seems to have a fish bowl effect. But overall, you should do reviews for all types of vehicles becoz your bloody thorough. Good job!
Ive just ordered the Allspace R-line and ive struggled to find a decent interior walkthrough, but i imagine its pretty much the same as yours the 5-seater Good work man!
Great video Ryan, I’ve had a mk1 for 3 years and just ordered a mk2 R line, love the upgrade on the past model. Now just have to wait for mine to come in. Love you style of video. 👍👍👍
Ryan, good job giving a detailed amount of info. It's. A bit different from other reporters as this is Your personal vehicle and I can tell you really like it. I will be getting one of these later in the year as the R line package is not yet available here in the US.
Great video Ryan just what I needed to see I was thinking about getting a Rline but wasn’t sure about the boot space as I have two spaniels but after watching this video it looks enough. Also love your non professional approach when explaining the spec also...a real breath of fresh air mate. Like you I enjoy a pie and a pint so I’m no skinny Minnie so it’s handy to know that.😉👍 Cheers again Ryan have subscribed
Great vid, can't wait to get our new 2.0tsi R-Line in March. Depending on it's performance I might fit a +54bhp race chip. 234 HP should be quite nippy !
Just got a 18 plate Tiguan and love it beautiful car only down fall I’ve noticed and do not like is the safety feature that doesn’t allow you to drive off whilst the door is open can be useful but if someone decides to steal your car at a set of traffic lights you can’t drive off could some one please explain how I can turn this safety feature off. Thank you
Liverbird1987 you cannot turn this feature off... if the door was open and you needed to drive off, you would need to quickly put your foot on the brake and disengage the handbrake. The likely hood of being car jacked is very slim in the uk and the Tiguan has self locking doors available in the car settings on the Nav screen
Hi Ryan, great video !! noticed your engine management light was on when you sat in the car. was there an issue or is that something it does when the engine isnt running ?
:-) Great video! About the Discover Media System and the AID: Can you display the SatNav on the AID and show the navigation of your phone over Carplay (AndroitAuto,...) on the headunit at the same time?
Alan Barraclough the headlights are fully adaptive and don’t just simply perform automatic high-low beam. You push forward the light stalk once and a small Headlight symbol with a capital A in the centre will appear on the dash and show you the system switched on. Note that the system will not work if the Car is set to ECO mode in the driving modes. Also the system only activates at speeds of 39mph or greater and When the system is actively working the symbol on the dash will turn blue to show the function is working (you will be able to obviously see this out the windscreen)
Ryan, you can use the Key fob too to open and close hatch ;) Enjoyed your review, I am considering the TSI 2.0 - Myself am worried about having TDI for future resell value, and some cities might start to ban in future. What do you think?
SG-D diesel is far from dying. All Euro6 compliant diesels wont be banned! The hatch can be opened and closed from the fob, if you have keyless and electric boot.
Hi Ryan...my new Tiguan R Line 190 DSG 4Motion (in white) is arriving in a couple of weeks. Quick question mate: Is there any type of tyre lip around the 20" rim? I might arrange to get rim protectors fitted if they are easily scratched. Cheers (and great video btw)!
ryanjamesharrold congrats! The 190 engine is a perfect choice for this car, good balance between having enough power and economy. The car should come fitted with SUV spec continental contact 5’s they have a decent amount of sidewall for this wheel size and have a small edge protector! I would strongly advise AGAINST rim protectors.. as they never sit correctly. But the main reason is they will rub on the diamond cut edge and allow corrosion to take hold of the wheel very quickly! They are NOT designed to be used on Diamond cur wheels
So I'm thinking of getting the Tiguan, either the SEL or the Rline trim. I was wondering if the ride became rough because of thr sportier suspension and the 20" wheel, or is it still comfortable, or at least is comfortable when choosing the Comfort mode on the DCC. Would love to hear your response, will probably buy mine in a month or two! Cheers
Abdulmajid Zubailah I have been in a golf with DCC and that option is worth every penny! The Rline rides really good! The SEL would ride a little softer...just because of higher depth tyres and “normal” springs. The Rline just looks so good over the SEL (personal opinion) ;)
Ryan VAGguy i totally agree with you, the Rline is absolutely gorgeous, the golf gti has came as an option in my mind aswell, but i feel like the tiguan is a better option cuz of the ground clearance and higher practicality. Awesome video btw and thanks a lot for responding so quick. And if you had to choose, would you go with a golf gti or the tiguan r?
Abdulmajid Zubailah The ground clearance on the Tiguan is great and the handling is very good for a car of its size. Golf R! Watch my Other Video I did of my Audi S3 👍🏼
Really well done. Wish you did I driving review also. Wanna see what its like in terms of acceleration. I wanna get the 150bhp version but dont know if it powerful enough.
Ryan VAGguy cheers pal. You should consider going to the dealers and asking them for some test cars to do reviews on them. You're very detailed and showed me somethings. I didnt even know existed on the car.
Ryan VAGguy just wanted to ask you. Im guessing you didn't get the Dynaudio sound system upgrade? What does the standard system sound like. Is it loud enough.
Oliver Davies The 150PS does the job absolutely fine, its smooth and quite inside (for a TDi) it wont win any drag races. But it saves a decent chunk of money over the 190ps version. (Which is the exactly the same engine just basically mapped to 190ps) DSG is the only way to go, when it comes to this car.
Ryan VAGguy Agree mate, definitely going for dsg... Pretty much the exact same spec as you without keyless entry.. Test drove a 190 but went for the 150, ad you say, save a chunk of money plus the added economy
Oliver Davies the best thing about the 150ps.....is what ever reason should you want more power....this engine maps to 200+ps for whole lot cheaper than buying the 190ps!
You're right about the wheels, in Ireland, you have to pay extra to get the 20" wheels. The 18" are standard on R Line in Ireland. Specs are always much better in the Uk
Yvette Kelly the 20”s are delicate though....there have been a few brown trouser moments when parking up! The benefit or the Rline and 20’s is the handling is pretty good for a tall car! It was very nice coming from a S3 to find that it wasn’t a sloppy bag egg yolks!
David O Donnell it will be worth the extra Euro! 👌🏻Ruby Red is a rare colour on the Tiguan and will look amazing! Pictures please on Tiguan Owners UK (on facebook)
Excellent video so thanks for posting. Sorry for all the questions, but would you recommend upgrading the sound system in the car? Is the 4 wheel drive worth it? Is the 150 brake powerful enough and have you used the lane assist tech much? Thanks in advance Andy
Andrew Me never a problem to answer questions :) The 150ps DSG 4motion is spot on for me, it returns decent performance and MPG. Perfect for my load lugging up and down the country every week! The residuals on the 4motion are better than the 2wd, to me buying a car like this in 2wd is really pointless! The standard sound system is very good, but the Dynaudio is getting some amazing writeups! Its only worth it if you love your music loud...all of the time... otherwise, consider other options. I always use the adaptive Cruise control and lane assist, this truly makes driving a dream!
What do you think to the 180 Petrol as I won’t get another Diesel car again and what do you think to the oryx white as I’m not a lover of flat white cars.
Sorry to bother. Loved the review. We’ve picked up an MY18 R-Line 2.0 TSi here in Australia. There are a number of subtle differences, full leather for one. I know this is rather of shame subject but: The Lightning Cable with 90 Degree connector. Was this sourced from VAG on delivery or aftermarket?
Ryan VAGguy Thanks for the quick response. I think I may have found a link them as well. My Partner has the iPhone 8+ & the phone slot plus standard cable attachment doesn’t quite do it. We are really enjoying out R-Line looking forward to some road trips in her. More videos please!
Ryan, amazing video. Truly and honest review. Keep us updated on your experience. Congratulations! Have a question if you don't mind. Heard the seats are not that comfortable after a couple hours driving. I travel a lot and it concerns me because intend to spend long hours driving. Worried Tiguan is not that good on comfort. Do you agree? Another thing, heard on vag forums comments regarding front suspension make noise and also annoyng wind sound on the road... Have you experienced any of that? Appreciate your thoughts on that.
Fernando Nagy people are always really too critical of certain points. The Tiguan is the most comfortable car I have owned! Its very easy to drive for long periods of time and the wind and road noise is not loud at all!
Ryan VAGguy thanks for your reply, I’m weighing up an A5 Sline Sport back or this beast. Do you get a good return of performance and economy? Is yours 150TDI? Thanks
Steve Fowler mine is 150ps TDI DSG 4Motion and Get a great balance of performance and economy. I had the pleasure of borrowing a brand new A5 Sline Cabriolet last year.....and dam was that fantastic! But of course the Tiguan is so much better suited to the english weather conditions ;)
Velka Sanchez I would like to say I know, but unfortunately I cant help with this question. I am currently in FL and saw my first US specification Tiguan Yesterday and I cant Believe how different they compare (bumpers, lights Etc.) I wish they would sell the Atlas here in the UK
Good video, just a couple of questions,do you with you got anymore extras, like the sat nav Pro and what do you think to the oryx White over the plain white and does the sunroof tilt or does it just go backwards.👍
Ricky 1234 thanks! The sunroof does have a tilt function and of course also opens fully. The Nav pro Isn’t worth the extra money, as the standard system does everything you need it to do!! Oryx white Isn’t really worth it on the Tiguan either as for the money, the difference is only noticeable up close! Use that money saved for better options like surround cameras or The excellent sounds system upgrade 👌🏻
Ryan VAGguy thanks Ryan for the reply,I’ve currently got a 2 year old GTI with the performance pack and undecided wether the change for the Golf R in white silver or the Tiguan R,but I’m not a lover of plain white, which is why I asked if the oryx white is a better white.Because we don’t do a lot of miles I would be going for the DSG in petrol.Good to know your thoughts on this.Let us know what your thoughts are about the Tiguan after you’ve had it for a bit and if there is anything you dislike about it.Keep up the good work 👍
The Mk7 golf GTI is a huge love of mine! I bought a facelift S3 before the Tiggy.... although it was great... it never felt like it had the spice of the MK7 R ! And after realising the R is mental, The GTI is and always was the king of all round hot hatch goodness! Oryx white is great on the golf (GTI) ...not so much on the Tiggy (darker colours) are king on this car...but you cant go wrong with good ole white :)
I actually drove a TSI 2.0 DSG 4Motion before ordering my TDI ......the TSI is a peach on this model! Very quite and smooth, with punchyness when needed. However due to very popular demand, the waiting list for TSI models VS TDI models is very long. Another great thing About the TSI is the tuning potential, as its basically the GTI engine!
Hi mate, what’s the latest on the Tiguan.Any dislikes yet.Are they a nick able car like the Golf GTI and the R.I have a Golf GTI and there’s a lot getting nicked around by me so wanting to change but undecided what to get and was thinking if the Tiguan is a safer option.
Ricky 1234 rule number one is if they want it, they will get it! It comes down to desirability, the Tiguan isn’t as wanted as something like the GTI I can safely say that the Tig gets no unwanted attention and blends in nicely! (Ive had a vegas Yellow S3 its nice to blend in) Of course NON keyless entry is a little more fool proof.
I have just ordered the same car for delivery on the 1st Sept 2020. I have been watching various videos on youtube but this video is the best by far.
It was very thorough and exactly what i needed to see. Keep up the great work!
Top man.

Just bought the Tiguan R Line. You covered and answered all of my questions more than the professions and handbook did. Keep up the good work.

Liverbird1987 you cannot turn this feature off... if the door was open and you needed to drive off, you would need to quickly put your foot on the brake and disengage the handbrake.

Max Quest unfortunately not, you can only select one navigation option at a time and cannot mirror to the phone and media screen.
Great video mate keep it up
Adeel Bashir thanks!!
Good video, does anyone know how you set the auto dipping headlights.

Excellent video so thanks for posting. Sorry for all the questions, but would you recommend upgrading the sound system in the car? Is the 4 wheel drive worth it? Is the 150 brake powerful enough and have you used the lane assist tech much?

Andrew Me never a problem to answer questions :)
The 150ps DSG 4motion is spot on for me, it returns decent performance and MPG.
Ryan VAGguy thanks great advice and help
Just another quick q, what seats do you have in the car?
Andrew Meehan I have the standard (manual operated) Alcantara/cloth seats the leather goes all saggy very quickly
What do you think to the 180 Petrol as I won’t get another Diesel car again and what do you think to the oryx white as I’m not a lover of flat white cars.
Does the sports suspension of the R LINE model ruin the comfort of the ride? Because if it does I might be cancelling my order.

Hi mate, are heated seats standard on the R line?
Also is keyless standard on R line?
Thanks
Steve Fowler heated Front seats are standard on the Rline.
Keyless is an option across the range
Ryan VAGguy thanks for your reply, I’m weighing up an A5 Sline Sport back or this beast.
Do you get a good return of performance and economy? Is yours 150TDI?
Thanks
Steve Fowler mine is 150ps TDI DSG 4Motion and Get a great balance of performance and economy.
I had the pleasure of borrowing a brand new A5 Sline Cabriolet last year.....and dam was that fantastic!
But of course the Tiguan is so much better suited to the english weather conditions ;)
Ryan VAGguy forgot to ask, what’s the sports suspension like?
Does it ride pot holes ok?
Thanks
Steve Fowler rides is great! Doesn’t crash around+ body control is spot on for a car of its size! Handles really nice!
Hi, do you have any idea when the 2018 VW Tiguan SEL Premium w/ 4 Motion, R-Line and w/ Third Row Seating would be available in the USA?
Velka Sanchez I would like to say I know, but unfortunately I cant help with this question. I am currently in FL and saw my first US specification Tiguan Yesterday and I cant Believe how different they compare (bumpers, lights Etc.)
I wish they would sell the Atlas here in the UK
Another great thing About the TSI is the tuning potential, as its basically the GTI engine!
any roof leaks?
Non in the time I’ve owned it
Hi mate, what’s the latest on the Tiguan.Any dislikes yet.Are they a nick able car like the Golf GTI and the R.I have a Golf GTI and there’s a lot getting nicked around by me so wanting to change but undecided what to get and was thinking if the Tiguan is a safer option.
Ricky 1234 rule number one is if they want it, they will get it!
It comes down to desirability, the Tiguan isn’t as wanted as something like the GTI
I can safely say that the Tig gets no unwanted attention and blends in nicely!
(Ive had a vegas Yellow S3 its nice to blend in)
Of course NON keyless entry is a little more fool proof.
Haha, I don't know what breakdance move you are performing but just kick your foot in de middle of the car. Not swipe it. Works every time here !
Daniel it takes a crack team of badly trained people to get it to work on mine 😂😂
Ryan VAGguy thats weird maybe there is something in front of the sensor. Safe drive with yours! Cheers.
Don’t swipe. Kick in the centre. Works every time but in the video you’re doing it wrong ;-)
Hobby Mounts duly noted :)
The fisheye lens ruined the video.
Marcusesq thats nice...
Mike Watkins Which is a characteristic of fisheye lenses. It's either in your face or too far away and badly distorted in both.
Love it - On my list to replace the GTI when the time comes (a petrol one though)
