It is not always the money. Ethiopia is the founding member of United Nations, African Union, IGAD, etc. Ethiopia is the biggest contributor of UN peace keeping mission. It is an oldest civilization and a leading country for African decolonization. It may be poor compared to other BRICS countries, but from geopolitical point of view, BRICS will highly benefits if they let Ethiopia join them.

I am an Ethiopian with mixed ethnicity (Oromo and Amhara). The reality of Ethiopia is not what Mr. Negatu is talking about. I know this guy intends to say nothing evil about Ethiopia. However, the members of the BRICS know the hard truth about Ethiopia and its leader. Ethiopia today is a blind country because of its leader, Abyi Ahmed. Recently, Ethiopia was ranked as a developing country. Mr. Negatu kept saying the population of Ethiopia is the second largest in Africa, so what? This population, because of leadership, is more divided than ever. Abyi Ahmed's pupolarity went down to single digt. Abyi is busy with the civil war. As soon as he made peace with Tigiray in the North, he launched a new war against the Amhara people. Do the current Ethiopian leaders fit for civil society membership in BRICS? The answer is no. Abyi's request for membership of BRICS is to cover up his embarrassment from the Paris meeting.

This Mr. Negatu, so called expert is under the hypnosis of a sort. I wuld kindly suggest he re-visits the basics of Economic engineering.
He kept deviating from the questions that were asked because he lacks the ability and experience to skilfully articulate his answers in such a way, that is equitable to the prevailing circumstances, that is, the turmoil in Ethiopia.
The Host asked " What can Ethiopia offer other than population ? " instead, Mr. Negatu kept lecturing on, what BRICS is and is about, which any middle-scool child has long been aware. Plus I could not help but notice how he kept throwing these finance and/or Economic terminologies and acronyms to beat around the bushes.
A word of advice to Mr. Negatu :
BRICS enjoys countries with the following "STABLE" privileges - Economic and Financial, Security and political, Sovereign equality, Cultural appreciation, and Social justice which Ethiopia excercises none of.
Perhaps Mr. Negatu meant for Ethipia to apply to enter BRICS the usual way as a begger, as a third wheel - the bottom of the food chain.
