The way that Russell catches Emmet's substitute changes during his solos is just amazing. That man has BIG ears.
@@Zxx459 Ah, what's the tune they're quoting?
@@sumeursault It sounds like Blues for Alice changes (in Bb) for the first part, the last 4 are different though.
@@sumeursault Seamus quoted "Spontaneous Combustion" from Cannonball Adderley at one point, and Emmett totally picked it up!
@meursault42 where did emmet substitute and what did he do? How does it fit?
Hall is amazing, one of three bass players I love hearing play a solo. Well Pastorius is dead before he developed his full talent, Esperanza is not on the same level as Hall. So Hall is the best bass player I've ever heard.
Remember playing alongside Seamus in a college jazz band. He was a high school student at the time and his depth of mastery was evident even then.
When homies mic broke and he held it up and played a lick with one hand. That shit was clutch af
and the fact that the other tenor joined in on the lick... super impressive hahaha
I could listen to Troy and Seamus ALL DAY LONG. So much amazing playing, history, creativity, sound, everything.
Shades of Red Garland & Bobby Timmons! The best videos on the Toob!
Smiled when I heard Spontaneous Combustion by Seamus at 3:04
Truth, not a tune you hear quoted too often!
@@BaileyFamFC what’s the tune?
Oh wait, is it actually called Spontaneous Combustion?
@@tommaxwell4470 Yep! Made famous by the Cannonball Adderley quintet. "Live in San Francisco" if I recall correctly.
I want a big Emmet Cohen concert with various guests.
3:54 Oops... poor Troy
Waouh ! Roy and Seamus don't compet but listen and inspire each other !
2 of my favorite tenor players. I love both of them. Lot’s of joy in this session.
They love the music, and they love each other- what could be better?
Awe inspiring. Also, a word of appreciation for whoever set up and is mixing sound here - doing a superb job …. thank you!!
Whoa, some seriously hot tenor madness there! Great playing by the tuff tenors and the whole band!
Man that's cool - kinda wanted to hear some piano madness ....oh there it is 7:20 my bad. Knocked out!!
thanks!
They way that Seamus and Troy play off each other is insane
This team really reminds me of the great Eddie Lockjaw Davis&Johnny Griffin quintet! GROOVY AF!
Troy's sound sometimes sounds just like Griff!
@@maxonsax1 IKR?!
Troy Roberts more cool in blues, plays in old style.... Awesome
Just so, so good. Joyful, fun, combined with instrumental mastery. Perfect.

Love this arrangement! I have a great appreciation for creating one's own version. Not needing to hear what's already be said. Bravo!

This is the first time I've seen a drummer plays with a right hand traditional grip!
somehow i don't believe that this is literally the first time
Very professional! Happy accidents, would that sound ever have happened if he had not had mic malfunction? We will never know and love it.
