I’m moving to NYC alone as a 19 year old, after saving for the move since I was 16 to escape an abusive household. Videos like this give me more confidence and somehow some security in what to expect when I move in February. Thanks for helping me be a little less scared (P.S, I’m moving from Florida as well. St . Augustine)
Wow I’m so excited for you to start this new journey. So admirable that you’ve saved for that long. There will be ups and downs, but having control over your life is the best reward. Wishing you the best !
This video was extremely helpful. I want to live in DC or New York but I don't have a bachelor's and no interest in getting one. Your video was something I didn't know I needed. Hopefully I can find a way to move to DC or NYC soon. I'm ready and congrats on doing this move without all the " ducks lined up!" That's faith in action. 🎉
Thank you so much ! I've heard that DC is a good city to live in. What city would be your number one choice? And I completely understand! School is not for everyone and even with a degree it's hard to find good pay. There are lots of people without a degree making it here. It is tough. Some people I've met work multiple jobs or have a main job and a side hustle/side job. Some entered a trade which is way cheaper than getting a BA. You might have to compromise temporarily and get a room with roommates but have cheap rent and more freedom. I am not sure about DC housing culture but I know there is a solution for you.
@@AminahOjere Aww thanks sis! I am open to NYC or DC. I fell in love with DC each time I've gone. I am ok with roommates at this point but I will have to figure that out soon when I move. I'm so happy for you and this video was so good, real and informative. Enjoy yourself this season. Good things are coming because you took that step.
If you don’t go to a traditional college get a trade, you will get tired of working small jobs. If you are good at something that pays invest in (hair, skin, makeup, nails, clothes). Otherwise I would focus on a career that can pay you now to invest into your dreams later. Sometimes you have to do stuff you don’t want to do until you can do whatever you want to do. Take it from someone who is turning 30(back in school) and prioritized fast cash lifestyle. Build something young so you can relax as you get older.
Welcome (back) to NYC! I have lived in New York on and off the past few years. If you're looking for a short term sublet (3 weeks or less) next year lmk, I travel a lot and my room is vacant for weeks at a time. Also always down to connect and meet new peeps :)
As a B&R New Yorker this is a very refreshing take on the city. I appreciate your vibe I wish you all the best on your adventures. I look forward to your upcoming videos as I’m looking for inspiration.
Everyone that is moving to NYC make sure u have a plan and enough money to afford the rent ! I’m very serious and good luck to everyone ❤ . I am getting the hell out of here lol
I wish I could heart this 10x. Living with roommates or living further outside of the city, is the only way to save a little bit of $. Where are you moving to?
Hey 👋🏿 I’m a native New Yorker, born & raised in Brooklyn. I was living in Accra Ghana for a few years and returned to NYC last year to work & save some money. I’ll be moving back to Ghana this year.
I’m moving to nyc next week! Literally same story, originally from Miami, moved to Nashville and it’s just not my vibe so I packed my suitcase and sold my furniture on fb marketplace!
I’m getting ready to move in July with two kids and we are all excited. I’ve done the move before and her video is on point. You just have to make the move and you’ll figure it out. The only difficult part for me is finding a room or shared space to rent with two kids. But will figure it out. YOLO like she said.
July is a good time to move here, the weather is nice(but hot) and there will be so much to do ! It will be more challenging for sure to find housing, but not impossible. You might even be able to find your own studio/ 1bed but further outside of the city. Which in that case, you’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of commuting for work, school(s) etc. But keep looking, stay optimistic. Wishing you all of the luck. I have a video that talks a bit more about finding shared accommodations hopefully it helps, here’s the link : th-cam.com/video/MLD4CmF8WzU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-8MT8t8oNaawS8iu
Thank you so much for the advice and encouragement! I'll definitely keep looking and remain optimistic. Moving to a new place can be challenging, which is why I stumbled the first time I moved. However, I'm excited about the opportunities, especially with the knowledge and resources from my past experiences and videos like yours. This time around, I'll be documenting my journey and all the resources I tap into to share with moms who are looking to make the move like myself. I firmly believe that mothers shouldn't limit themselves from moving or living in their dream cities just because they are mothers. It's challenging, but it's definitely possible.I appreciate your support and the video link. I've spent the whole week watching, and I'm impressed by your work. Keep it up, sis! @@maryjanemetayer1587hi! I too have 2 kids ( 6 and 3 both girls) and we're planning on moving to NYC by the end of August before school starts for my 1st grader. @@LMiraculous🙄 I'm really curious when I hear people say that they want to move to the NYC. I want to know what's your occupation and if you're rich because it is expensive as hell to live out here.
I'm glad that it did ! NYC definitely has it's pros and cons but depending on your goals and lifestyle it is worth the move. Plan, try it and worst case move on if it no longer fits.
Aminah, as a New Yorker (Brooklyn) that will be moving back in May, you are spot on with your points! Are you in the city? What borough are you in? I am fortunate to be able to transfer with my firm.
Good for you! That’s so great. Are you excited ? I am in Manhattan. Was in Brooklyn for a bit. Trying to gauge where I want to be long term. I’m seeing that ever borough has a different feel.
You don’t have to rely on public transit that’s only if you took into consideration for insurance, parking( if the apartment has a garage or off site parking 🅿️ or is there street parking 🅿️) into your budget 👀👀🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️💁🏽♀️💁🏽♀️
I agree I could have been more specific. It all comes down to personal preference and like you said where you’re located, where you work, do you like to drive, have to commute for work, parking/street parking where you live, cost for insurance and car payment. In some cases it might all balance out. And for peace of mind it might be better for some people.
Super helpful and real. I move there August to start corporate life. I'm from Texas and have zero connections there 😂. I need all the help i can get. I'm definitely looking for roommates. I also need to learn how to make friends in a new city.

I hope that helps .
I’m in Miami and I feel that. I need culture and arts and it’s just not here. Do you think the prices are comparable to Miami there ? My rent for my studio is 2400. Thanks for the vid !
I use to think that nyc was more expensive but it’s almost equal now! $2,400 will get you a studio here too. You could also get a 1 bedroom but it will be tiny. Brooklyn will give you more options and space for sure. It also depends on how modern you want your apartment to be but you’ll have options. Groceries can be pricey I’ve noticed a $1-$5 difference with some stuff. But honestly I’m terms of restaurants, drinks & activities miami is almost the same .
$2400 is your current rent , then you can definitely afford NYC's rent! Move !!! You only have 1 life to live. I am divorced with 3 and 6 yr old girls and we're moving to NYC at the end of August.
If Target is doing price discrimination then that needs to be called out. They buy in mega bulk they should not be double pricing happening unless it is a special sale.

I want to move soooo bad but like I’m very nervous & I also do TH-cam but I don’t post as much as I should… it’s like I’m not motivated here enough but at the same time I’m terrified of leaving but also I’m like we only have one life to live so why not live it the way you want. I’m just confused lol
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel . I completely understand! I was in the same spot but ATL was weighing me down. I feel like it was a prep for NYC because it’s the wild wild west out here lol. It has been an adjustment but I definitely have been more motivated. Can I see myself here long term ? Maybe not. But in terms of opportunity, things to do, creatives it’s here. But start posting girly ! I’m not where I want to be, but I am definitely seeing some results.
@@AminahOjere Definitely will start doing better, I just need a schedule or something lol. And to be honest when I do move out that way I’m not planning to stay long term either, just need a change of pace. Thanks for taking the time out to respond!! And good luck on your journey!
I say 3x what your rent would be minimum. From looking at rooms on Facebook, Spareroom, etc I got an idea of what I would be spending and tripled that. Then I would add a bit more to that for food and transit. Let's say you see rooms for 1,300 I would save (3x) $3900 ideally (4x) $5,200. But for an apartment, you would have to have income that is 3-4x the rent and a deposit of 1 month's rent (more than likely). It depends on how urgently you need to move, if you have a job lined up and your requirements for rent/locations of interest. Does that make sense?
