The only level crossing on this stretch left to be removed , would be the Bennet street level crossing in Dandenong. At 16:19. They are still talking about that one.
It's in the middle of an industrial area and Hallam station isn't too far away so there's not much call for it to be reopened. It officially closed in 2002 but trains ceased stopping there in 1991 when the General Motors factory closed down. Once the factory closed there was no (legal) way to exit the station. It's surprising the station buildings still remain 33 years later, despite the ongoing vandalism. When Paisley and Galvin stations on the Werribee line both closed in 1985 everything was demolished, except for the platforms at Paisley. (I don't know why Paisley never reopened as it's next to a residential area!)
@@zoomosis Paisley didn't reopen as the trains ran via Altona and only a handful ran down the straight during peak hour. Different today with the Werribee trains running down the straight all day again. 👍😀
I'm still surprised General Motors station is STILL there. Since its been years since its been used, I would have thought it'd have been torn down ages ago. Also, I thought they had removed one of the crossings near there, so I thought they had demolished gm back then
It's surprising how much remains of it. On the Down side is what looks like an old platform extension with a lamppost that hasn't been used in more than 30 years. I suspect vehicle access (to remove debris) is a bit difficult, at least on the Down side where the GM factory was. Given its age it's also likely there's asbestos in the main building. Possibly also the shelter on the Up side.
@@zoomosis I've watched a lot of TH-cam videos of people exploring it, and I knew it stayed around for many years slowly being torn apart, but I still thought that just maybe it might have been completely demolished recently. I wonder if they regularly mow that forest on the platforms. As some videos show the forest, and some shows none. Granted, the none could be from earlier years. I also wonder if they could one day reopen it if the area needed it again
Nice video. I still don’t know what they can’t just add a 3rd track between Pakenham & Dandy so that vline can skip past metro trains. Seams a waste to me when they are doing all the level crossings they should future proof it.
Many people said that before they rushed into Skyrail around Carnegie and Noble Park. That line has needed 3 tracks for 40 years and now they have virtual consigned rail to be as slow as the train ahead now. I remember when they would even hold trains up at Oakleigh to let the Warragul train run express through and pass by a slow train. Not sure they do that now as I no longer take that train
One idea is that the train would fill up with short haul passengers and those going long distance would be left standing. The suburban trains are more frequent for the people doing the shorter runs. 👍😀
@@driver667 This is where they need to put more services on for example from Southern Cross to Albury its only three services a day thats why they fill up so quickly you get a seat if your'e lucky enough.
What metro needs to do when the tunnel opens, and now that improved signalling allows more services, is to run real express trains several times a day. Say, stopping all stations Pakenham to Dandenong, then Springvale, Oakleigh, Caulfield then the metro tunnel stations. If people want intermediate stations, change trains at a stop. Overall times will be faster. Look how lifts operate in tall buildings. None stop every floor, but in sections to speed up travel.
@@Wdeane1957 sounds good on the surface but it won't work. The express will simply catch the stopping train in front of it and crawl along. The improved signalling means you can fit more trains in but they still can't get past each other. We need a third track to allow the faster train to pass the slower train. 👍😀
Thanks again enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next instalment.

Would a 6 car Velocity be the same length as a HCMT? 🤔
I'm not sure but I would guess the HCMT may be a tad longer 👍😀
