    Would Salvias pair well with Lavender? I have a 4 foot long by 18" wide and high very heavy cement pot and was planning on planting a Salvia in the middle with two Lavender plants on each side. I also have a tall planter close by with a butterfly bush with a combo of white, blue, and purple flowers that also attracts pollinators.
    BTW, what a beautiful space you've created. I can only imagine what a privilege it must be to be engulfed by it. One with nature, for sure. Thanks.

    Slugs. Watch out for milky slugs. They love salvia. Powdery mildew. Avoid overhead watering unless you have Impeccable air flow to dry the foliage out. Most years my salvia will put out a spectacular show of electric blue flowers all summer. Other years it's a wet cold spring and a struggle to pick out and bait for slugs early on. And once the powdery mildew gets a toe hold- you'll never get it out and have a nice bloom show so you might as well cut them to the ground and hope for next year. That usually works.

    I have salvias that I planted about 4/5 years ago and they quite large. They end up sort of separating out in the middle around June usually. We cut them back and they grow nicely back late summer. I’m wondering if we should cut the plant up and separate it so it doesn’t spread out and leave a barren hole in the center?

    Gorgeous. New gardener over here... thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Your talent and skills are inspiring. How do you keep salvia from spreading out or falling down? Mine always looks terrible mid season. Does spacing have something to do with that or cutting them back? Seems like they’re so top heavy.

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry for the delayed response, they would benefit from a shearing back at this point. If they do not have enough sun they will not bloom as prolifically and they might spread out like this too.
      If you cut them back about ½, they will likely have re-bloom as well.
      Thank you and have a great week!

    Laura ,
    You could convince me to buy , plant and transplant MUD 💞
    I enjoy your videos so much and especially those Perrenials that are Sure To Grow !
    May I ask , I would like to send some pictures your way in hopes you can help identify my hydrangea bushes .
    I'm not sure they are what I purchased . Still waiting for the 6 QUIK FIRE HYDRANGEAS TO BLOOM.
    1 of the 2 Limelight hydrangeas is small and looks exactly like a Quik Fire Hydrangea now ( 8-10-22)
    with white blooms and pink arising from the bottom that's bright and beautiful !
    It's smaller & lovely next to the bigger limelight which overwhelms it . These 2 are on the East side of my home .
    The 6 QUIK FIRE Hydrangeas on the South side of my home in my
    " Cottage garden " get full sun , are mulched well , consistantly checked for moisture and manually watered . Alkylotic soil.
    All green full, lush and varied blooms of a type of lace cap of white, at a distance their color appear tans with pink coming underneath now . Nothing like the one on the East side .
    The BOBO hydrangeas on the West side are exactly as they are supposed to be . They bloomed first ! and have stayed big , consistent all summer long in the very hot west side , same soil, moisture consistency etc. They are darling 🌟
    I think my end of season discounted hydrangeas were mislabeled I fear . The Quickfire hydrangeas were to be the first to bloom and I'm still waiting ... Aug.10, 2022 . If I sent pictures , could you identify these for me even though only 2 of 6 have blooms . I cut them back in the spring only the dead , hollowed branches . I left nothing to chance . I planted them with the same products you do and fertilized the same also .
    Any ideas ? Hopes ? Dreams? Good ? Bad ? Ugly ? Prayers I need to know about ? I can't have a budget cut . No $ to spare .
    I'm still pulling weeds 😉.
    Pulling my hair trying to figure out what these are (?)
    These are :
    My anchor plants for my
    " Cottage Garden " I started last year 🤔😀😁😁😂🤣😄😃😅😉😉😉😉 Giggle Giggle ...HA HA HA ❗
    I'm using cardboard , grass clippings since I ran out of the excellent mulch I had . The weeding is a Process I cannot keep up with and digging up all these tree roots but I have so much faith in my FISKARS POINTY SHOVEL AND PITCH FORK . I'm determined to show you what a good hand tool can do ( you show me up every moment - every hour - every day Lady 🌟 )
    You just Shine 🌟
    Aaron Shines right beside
    you 🌟 .
    God Bless You Both for Blessing Us Every Day 🕯.
    P.S. Beautiful Lavendar Wreath Demo . Tell your Macho Mom I think her wreath is awesome . It would look great on my future gate to my future cottage garden hanging above the
    Perfect Perfusion Sage for which this tale began ...🤗

    I planted a small Salvia in my garden bed, but it died very fast. In retrospect, I'll try it again. This time I"ll place them in a pot to let them get big first. Seems like I need to plant bigger, stronger plants in the my landscape and weather.

    Your dirt quality is gorgeous. The salvias too. I love salvia. I moved into an 8 year old house afew years ago that has poor compacted soil in All the beds. Some are very shallow before you start reaching bad soil mixed with rock. Anytime I dig for new plants or changing plant position I'm afraid I've stirred up a new spot to have horsetail pop through in certain areas. I can't till it or I'll get it cropping up even more. Some areas I'm having a hard time just keeping it under control. Any tips or videos to amend the soil without bring a mass horsetail army? I've heard horsetail likes bad soil which I'm sure is somehow the problem.

    Well, first of all, you are cute as a button! I am 62 years old and really had no interest in gardening until about 30 years ago. I am in PA, zone 6, like you, and have 3 gorgeous salvia plants. We had a wicked rain/wind storm two nights ago and they are all drooping. They still have their beautiful blue/purple spikes, but I was wondering if they will start standing again on their own, should I support them with stakes or leave them alone? You will not often find plants as mature and in flower like what Laura shows in her videos. Once we ship the plants she grows them on in her greenhouse so they do look good at the time of planting, otherwise people are not able to visualize the appearance of the plant.

      I’m not sure if they are part of the salvia family 🤔It looks very similar to all the other salvia plants. I love it, and I’m never let down by it.
      Another choice in my 9b garden for an awesome, all summer long color show are the canna lilies! There are so many varieties and colors.

    There's a better salvia to grow imo; n it's a real wonder plant too! That salvia divinorum.
    Nice salvias nonetheless!

    How do you get Salvia to bulk up and have those long bloom stalks

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  ปีที่แล้ว

      That comes with the maturity of the plant, and the right amount of sun and nutrients the plant requires. Thanks for watching!

    Thank You! I just planted the Salvia that I ordered on the web. Only roots, so I don't know if I can expect anything from them this year, or not?

      You might get a little bit of color, and more and more each year until the perennials are mature.

    First I want to thank you for all your great videos. They are very informative. Especially for the newbie gardener. My question I have is if there is any difference between the Color Spires line and the Profusion Line for the Salvia?

    • @olaflangness2907
      @olaflangness2907 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just saw a PW video where they answered your question. The Profusion line are exclusively Salvia nemerosa varieties that have lots of spires of smaller flowers, and can be sheared back for rebloom up to 3 x a season. The color spire series are mostly hybrids with another Salvia species that gives the plant fewer spires but larger flowers. They can rebloom but not as reliably or as often as the Profusion salvias.

      We always say it is worth a try, the lack of bright sun and humidity is what seems to make this a tough task, but keep us posted please!

    I live in Sacramento, California. At my residence area. We have clay soils. So draining are the main issue here. I want to plant sun/shade flowers my front yard. Some of the area on front not full sun. Are there any flowers I can plant for this condition? Thank you

      It is, amend the soil a bit to help loosen it so the roots have more room to grow.

      We do not grow our plants from seed, they are grown from small pieces of plant material. And no, we are not licensed to ship outside of the US.
