    Have you ever had a fish that no matter what you tried it would not take food? It just would swim by the food and make no attempt to go after it? When that happens the fish usually just wastes away and dies. It's a helpless feeling and very frustrating.
    Is there anything you can do to help a fish that is acting like that? Well here are my 3 tips on what to do when something like that comes up. Don't give up on that fish. Instead try these steps and you might just turn him around.
    Have you run into this? What did you see and what were the steps you took. Did they work? Share your experience below because we all learn from each other around here!

    Good video Ben! Your water quality looks fantastic, I don’t think there would be any issues there for you, nice job btw..Sometimes when they don’t eat it’s literally psychological. I believe it to be true as when my fish in the other room don’t see me for a day or at least hear my voice they get sad😣. Mind you I’m battling maintaining 13 tanks and have gone to feeding them every other day so the water quality doesn’t get horrible, I’m spread thin lol but I know what you mean they should be attacking their food. I’ll try the garlic guard I’ve got some totally forgot about it thank you🌹💐😎👽

    Good luck with your little Taiwan reef. I hope he starts eating. They are such good looking fish, I think they have a home in any African tank! I think that he may be feeling a little overwhelmed based on what I’ve heard you talk about. But, you know that our fish can go for a good long while without eating. They only eat every day because we keep them in glass boxes and give them food every day. So, keep up the hard work and hopefully he will come around!🐠🦯

    I'm not sure how many days you waited to pull the Taiwan reef out but keep in mind females will hold for 20 to 30 days and not eat. I've had some picky fish go a week without eating certain foods, but when they get hungry they'll eat what I'm feeding them. My Jack Dempsey for instance would wait for sinking sticks and pass up all the floating food.

    Hi Ben appreciate this is an old video, but can you recommend whether an intimidated fish will do well being put in a 5 gallon hospital tank right away, to get his confidence back? previously in a 70 gallon with 20 friends

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the size of the fish. 3-5" might be okay in there for a month or so with small water changes and light feeding.

    Had that problem with Africans off and on for 20 years. Was never able to save a fish once this disease hit. I am convinced it is nutritional problem which Lake Malawi cichlids are infamous for. After 3 years with new world cichlids I have not had any of the same problem. Good luck. Affected fish usually died suddenly on me instead of wasting away

    Ben the best way is use a pipette or an eye dropper with medication epsom salt garlic. Open his mouth put the dropper past the gills and administer the mix. Lay him on a wet towel with wet hands. I have had success with this method.if what your trying fails. Then treat in 5 gallon possible constipation or parasitic problem my bet constipation🧐

    You probably have an issue that could be attached to the Cichlids intelligence. Maybe they can suffer from depression of some kind? Smarter animals bring their own set of strengths and weaknesses. You are a very calm and collected guy Ben, I know you will find what's up with him.

    Twain reefs can be that way; mine will sometimes go a couple of days in my tank without eating much and then boom he attacks the food; I think your doing more harm moving him around; Twain reefs seem to take longer to establish themselves for whatever reason; this is just my experience and what I've dealt with;

    If my fish stops eating or shows signs of any type of parasite internal or external I medicate ASAP I don’t even mess around with so called remedies they never work and usually cost you precious time to save your fish! Garlic guard is great but I mix it with the fish food and vitamins as a daily supplement. If the fish is in a community I just medicate everyone, most of the meds on the market are pretty safe for fish and plants so don’t hesitate!
    I even medicate once or twice a year as a preventive even if the my fish show no signs of parasite! To treat water I find Fritz para cleans is best, API gen cure is ok and easier to find in stores, and seachem metroplex is good to mix into fish food and treat your fish! My opinion of course!
