@@RonzarOneYou can always go 4g64 block if something happens to this. Those are dirt cheap. I used to track evo 8/9 back in the day. I’ve had various levels of builds. With built motors I always saw a little metal like that for the first few oil changes.
I remember driving a Evo 9 MR at streets of willow around 2006 or 2007. The owner had added a thicker rear sway bar as the only mod. I remember thinking "how the hell is this thing so fast and why is it so EASY??" Coming down the hill, entering T3, it would turn in super quick and just grip. getting on the power caused the rear end to step out just slightly and hold a tiny drift the whole way through the corner. You could hold it right on the edge all the way through the corners, and it went exactly where you pointed it. So much traction out of every corner, and it was stupid fast and stupid easy to drive it fast. I remember getting out of the EVO thinking "this car is FKG cheating". The only other (stockish) car I remember being really impressed with at the time was the E46 M3, and the EVO 9 MR felt like a step above that. It was a true track weapon, right out of the box.

Always been a VW guy but this is the one JDM car that’s always impressed me. First one I saw was the Evo III in a movie. My garage is currently empty and I’ve been looking at imports of older ones we never got here.
The Evo is honestly the perfect enthusiast car. My only issue is that the ones you find for sale out there are beyond thrashed and need some serious maintenance done. Doesnt matter what the car will be a money pit. You either buy a high mileage for $9k and put $20k into it or a low mileage at $30k.
keep at it guys you guys are keeping the spirit of Ken Alive not only in making monster cars and keeping these iconic street cars alive. You and the group paved the way for Alia to push herself and knowing more about cars with the groups generosity and passion. man I'm just loving your content, you're such a great presenter and together with Ron living his Evo game it makes for such an awesome episode. Keep it going!
As a teen (and even now) the evo was my favorite car I couldn't afford. I was able to grab a Galant VR-4 at 18 and still have it to this day, once the kids are in high school time to hunt for an evo. Amazing video, one I have been waiting for! Cheers to you Vin!
Luv me a good Evo Episode. Ron's car is sick! followed the build from back in the day. Full Seibon catalogue makes the car look mint. best quote " we are basically children" LOL
Great video, the overview was great, got some rips in. Love the idea of Ron doing a T3 G25-550 or 660 turbo (super fast spool and responsive) with 9.8 or 10:1 compression pistons, that with the 2.2L would be a super fun powerband to play with on the streets and occasional track day. To bad he got glitter bombed in the 4G63 but hopefully running lower boost on a more moderate turbo will allow the engine to live a long happy life with great response and power. Love this stuff and the 360 content, that thing is so dope. Cheers.
It's nice that after all the cars you've seen and driven that it can still make you react in this way. That's the way we all want to feel when driving our cars 👍
This is a good video dude. I really like it. Make more stuff like this - you make it seem like you really believe everything you said about the Evo, and you are a great hype man for stuff you like.

Solid comparasion on the two cars! I've had a stock to 700hp Evo for over a decade and an 1100hp sequential Evo for a few years. Flat foot shifting the fast car at high boost is unforgettable! 100% agree on the steering feel on these cars, although I would say the S2000 is a close second. Ron- IMO, you won't see much difference in low and midrange over 9:1. What you will get is a smaller tuning window with high compression. The engine in my car is 7.8:1 with a super 99 and its not bad. 400lb ft by 5000 and it lived 26K hard miles 800+ hp since 2007. I would highly recommend 8.5:1 to 9:1 depending on how much power you want.

The Evo came out of the factory with all of the performance and styling mods that everyone wanted on their other JDM cars and that has defined tuning for decades now, so much so other manufacturers had to copy them to be considered in the same league.
