I had to fire someone for repeatedly sleeping in the freezer - that's between - 18C and - 24C during his lunch breaks, despite repeated warnings that it was unsafe and a deliberate violation of health and safety regs to be in the freezer without the correct warm clothes we supplied (something we usually ignored if you just pop in for a few minutes at most to fetch something) or being in there for more than 30 minutes at a time on account of, you know, a risk of frostbite and death. No one else would ever go in there unless they absolutely had to, or stay longer than they have to to get what they need so it was apparently very quiet. Absolutely bizarre.

So I’m the manager of this law firm. This was the strangest case I’ve had to fire someone for. Once I hired an employee on a great recommendation from a partnering firm. He was in elder law. Now to understand his motives you have to know that he was intending on releasing a commercial airing on TV to get in contact with certain elderly people at this retirement home, this was for a big case the home was being sued for. He aired the commercial without getting permission or even letting the board review it first. Our reputation was everything in this company. Now that was just the first strike, but I guess something about this caused him to wanna call it quits, but he didn’t want to leave without commitment check which he doesn’t get if he quits, however he does if he’s fired. He uh.. well he did things like wearing rainbow suits to a very formal meeting, he left a massive dump in that bathrooms like 4 times, he even brought in whole ass bag pipes into his office to play. I was kinda laughing my ass off after I finally fired him. Figured it wasn’t worth it for that check. The guy was committed.

I had an new employee that was angry I wasn't trying to be her friend because I was her boss. She complained about it to the manager under me loudly and I overheard her threatening me. So when I asked her what was wrong and told her she shouldn't be threatening anyone she said "I'm not threatening anyone, I just said I'm from the slap-a-hoe tribe and I ain't afraid to do it". I said " That's a threat, you're fired". This lady was in her 40s, I'm in my 20s.

Can kinda relate to u. Not exactly tho, my boss is generally more friendly with the younger employees so me and him get along well. I'm also not a drunk, an addict or anything. I do what I'm asked to and more, etc just an all around good employee. My fellow coworker comes in drunk or on drugs or something and cries to me that my boss doesn't treat her the same way he does me. Well shit I wonder why girlfriend.... like self reflection is amazing sometimes....

@@tabora_ I joke around with all of them on occasion. My job just comes first. This lady hadn't even been here a month and was hired in by the other manager as a friend and she just wanted to talk all of the time, barely getting any work done and if I said anything to her about that, she got an attitude. I have to draw the line with them when they stop respecting me as their boss and think I should just let it slide "because we're friends". Don't get me wrong, I am fine with occasional chit chat, I think it helps keep the morale up and keeps them from feeling too stressed, it's only a problem when they don't actually get any work done. I mean I have worked under crappy bosses that degrade you plenty and I don't want them to feel that way too.

Idk if the person got fired, but they probably got written up. Mom went shopping at Sam's Club. Noticed a coworker there. Next day at work she casually mentions to a supervisor that she encountered coworker. Supervisor was like "...she called in sick yesterday". Mom felt bad. But how was she to know that her coworker had called in sick? If she'd known, she'd kept her mouth shut. Everyone calls in "sick" sometimes when they're not really sick, sometimes for mental health and sometimes just for a paid day off. But if you're gonna do that, you really need to stay home, or go somewhere not local so you don't run into co-workers who might accidentally or purposely rat you out. And definitely don't post your definitely-not-sick activities on social media (which wasn't an issue at the time of mom's story, but it's an important detail nowadays)

I worked at a place that gave horseback trail rides. Got reprimanded for discipling one of the horses… by this I mean I got dragged some feet by a 1300 lbs horse then yelled at it and tried to swing a rope to get it to put on the brakes before killing me… this was apparently unacceptable. Then I go to tighten the cinch (think that keeps the saddle on) and the horse grabs me by the arm with its teeth. I’ve tamed MUSTANGS that I was less afraid of. Also every horse was several pounds overweight in the 110 + desert heat and they wouldn’t let them get drinks of water “while working” So I just stopped showing up. Fast forward to when I work at a place that trains there horses and takes very good care of them. I have riders telling me they were nervous to get on their horse, lo and behold its because they were bucked off at the crappy place and sore for days after. The thing is… people working there had a complex of “I’m a really tough cowboy for putting up with broken bones”. So I know I was most likely described as some wuss that was afraid of their wackjob horses… as I mentioned, I’ve worked with mustangs that I’d trust more.

Had a guy who spammed the entire corporate with one of those "for every two people you send this to, we give you one share of stock" scams. The header of the email, with all the "To" addresses, was four pages long. Many machines at the time were still in the ancient Microsoft Mail client, and MS Mail could not even download the email to delete it. The guy was a contractor.
Had another guy who left a client site early on Wednesday, saying he was having chest pains. Not a word until he just wandered onto the site the following Monday. "I didn't need the hospital. I just went home." Wasn't fired, since he was a no show for just two days, not three as defined in company policy. Even the client was worried about him.

Hey what's the word for those people who enjoy pain, was it pessimists or something? Whatever you know what I mean, I was just thinking do people like that ever diliberatly seek out abusive partners? Seems like it'd be a good match
