  • Hello Everyone! In this weeks video, I will be sharing the highest paying jobs for linguistic anthropology majors. Finding careers in linguistics can be a challenge and finding high paying careers in linguistics is an even bigger challenge-today I hope this list of ideas puts you on the right track so you can accomplish all of your career and financial goals!
    Who am I? My name is Alivia Brown and I am a recent UCLA Anthropology graduate on a mission to find a career that I love. My major does not have a straight forward "path" as many would say and I am not only determined to prove that I can be successful in my major but also demonstrate my ability to find a career that brings me joy. This is my journey to expanding my global and anthropological knowledge. This is my journey to finding the best career I can. This is my journey to finding happiness. This is my journey to success.

    Thanks for all the information! For the ones interested in language and the legal system I recommend Susan Ehrlich book: Representing r4pe: language and sexual consent. Very good covering this topic ❤

    There are other positions in govt for linguistic anthro ppl… analyst jobs in State Departments, or the Intel community, for example…
    as a linguistic and cognitive anthropologist, PhD, I am glad I found your channel, keep up the good work!

    Hey hey! Another awesome video. In my grad school program we discussed this very recently and came to the conclusion that there are not many roles for linguistic anthropologists. In fact, our program doesn't even have a linguistics department! We try to feature guest speakers for a well-rounded four field application but the bottom line is linguistic anthropologists are getting harder and harder to come by. I'm known as the linguist in our department and I'm a medical anthropology student! I just know the importance of language when it comes to health and how it provides parameters for discourse.
    Also, ever seen the movie Arrival with Amy Adams? She was a linguistic anthropologist so don't forget the job title Alien Whisperer!

      Thanks so much. And wow that is very interesting. My school did have an extensive linguistic Anthro program so this is new to me. And no I’ve never seen it!

    Hey Alivia love ur content. Your TH-cam videos made me choose to major in social anthropology and minor in sociology. Wondering if u could make a discord chat for us followers around the world to chat about anthropology. ❤

      This absolutely warms my heart-so glad to hear I was able to help you find the right major for you. And I really want to do this! I've had people ask me to do it before I just have not set aside the time to make it happen. Is there a way to categorize different conversational topics in discord? I've used it before but it has been a while...

    Hey I just found your channel! Not manu linguistics focused content creators! I am interested in applying to the UCLA linguistics program, how big are the classes? Is this a big department in UCLA?

    • @AliviaBrown
      @AliviaBrown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, I know right! It's few and far between! The introductory linguistics courses are pretty large at UCLA, but the upper division courses get much much smaller :)

      Of course!! So happy to help! And in complete honesty, I am not 100% sure. My best guess is that getting a job depends more on your experience/qualifications in the field
