My dad owned a pizza shop and a video store in a mall when i was a child. I was 6 when Jurassic Park came out, my brothers and i would go to work with my dad and play this game along with many others in the back while eating pizza. This brought back some incredible memories of the 90's
This brings back memories. I got this game for my 15th birthday. Forgot what a banger the soundtrack was on this. I do remember getting to the end and not knowing how to beat it. And then Grant's pose at the end is like, "what did you expect?" LOL
Wonder why they cxalled it "Pump Station" when it's actually a sewer, or sewege treatment plant. Probably the scariest and most brutal level in the game.
@21:22 my brother and I used to watch the "rocks" fall out from under that raptor and hysterically laugh. some programmer knew exactly what they were doing.
This brings back so many memories. I could never figure out how kill the two raptors at the end. I never beat the game playing as Grant as a result. I can't believe how simple it was. Lol. This was still one of my favorite games on my genesis.
A good game, but in retrospect it feels like a beta that ended up released as a retail version. _Rampage Edition_ comes off as the game they meant to make the first time and is much more polished.
If I remember correctly the ending for Grant was supposed to be different but they cut it down to the helicopter flying away due to either time constraints or technical constraints
Man I remember playing this with my friend on his Genesis. Well... mostly my friend because I sucked at it! Forgot what a banger the st is. The graphics did a great job capturing the look and feel of the movie. That intro cinematic is boss. Nine year old me had his mind blown!
@@noisethebarbarian I'd say it's because we were kids and never had responsibilities. We could sit for hours at a time and try every possible scenario in a video. Unless you're a video game streamer, you have an actual job to go to, lol.
I remember this from way back as a kid. The T-Rex scared the crap out of me, especially in the intro cutscene when he looks at you through the windshield and trashes your car.
NES has the amazing Jonathan Dunn tracker soundtrack. SNES is one of the earliest first-person shooters (inside the buildings), it came out before Doom. Sega CD is an adventure game with a whole dinosaur documentary in it. And genesis is the one that's actually fun to play.
I agree. However, if the SNES version didn't have the terrible interior sections, and only further expanded on the 'surface' (bird's eye view) outdoors gameplay and features I think I would have preferred it over the Genesis version (which is my favorite between the two, mostly because I could play as a Raptor and, at the time for a kid, it was beyond bad ass). With this said though, of all the 'old' Jurassic Park games my favorite to this day is Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues (on SNES), not only because of the gameplay and action, but the freakin' soundtrack is amazing.
People always tell me on yt that it’s “nostalgia” every time I say that older games like these and 1990s/early 2000s were the best games will ever be, but this particular game was even before my time and I think it’s absolutely AWESOME! Esp when you consider a handful of people worked on these 1980s early 1990s games.
I remember our local video rental store ended up selling their Genesis games around late 1997, and my parents bought me this game from them. It was pretty damn fun, but tough!! Still looks fantastic, too.
Could never beat the River level as a kid. Pretty ridiculous for there to be all these different little drops and they expect you to know which ones kill you instantly and which ones don't. You make it look too easy, haha.
I remember the manual for this game had a screenshot of the password to the Volcano level right in it. Just put it in and you'd get to skip most of the game if you wanted to. Also, I think the T-Rex saying Sega was only in certain cartridges because I had this game, but the T-Rex only made his standard roar when the game booted up.
It was more like technical limitation and probably memory limit on the cart. While Genesis is known for having some games with very large boss sprites, the Jurassic Park already used up huge memory space for level graphics, and character/dinosaur sequences, that they simply could not jam in anything else. Common Sega Cartridge had like 4 MB space limit!
I could never get through the sewer (or canyon, on of the two) level as grant, until I saw a password on a screenshot in the megadrive version game manual and it just happened to be for the next level. I was so happy. This was before internet
