    Have the cutlass. I bought it at a pawn shop for a good price. It is a navel cutlass and is worn on the left side. Also sabers are traditionally worn on the left side because you mount a horse on the left side. Trust me, their plenty sharp. Good to see a video about it.

    Their cutlass machete does the grip the other way like you would like it. I actually took the belt sander to it and shaped it. The blade is thicker than a machete as well. I sharpened the back edge on the last quarter. This one looks good, but the cutlass machete is surprisingly handy!

    The 1917 cutlass came in a left and right version. I have one of each for duel wield. Also it’s an exact replica of the real U.S navy 1917 cutlass.. it was and still is a real sword. Based on a Dutch Kluwang.

    I do see its intended purpose, though. It's a boarding sword. You need to hack with forward momentum but yet need that short length. It was meant to get sailors on board an enemy vessel. I don't think it was meant to be a fencer

    The weight issue is something I've noticed with the cold steel cutlass machete,it's one of my favorites but it's overly blade heavy even for a saber,the new made in China ones are sharper and better grind but idk if they're as durable as the 1055 versions being 65mn steel,the grip also feels backwards and awkward in the hand. Anyway love the older and good cold steels but great video as always Mr. Dbad

    I agree bud some good some not so good i hade some m tech knives better than some cold steel lol lol you just got to take a chance on them all like i ordered a tops knife it wasnt heat treated or tempered right but i normalized it and redid treatment and temper now its a very nice knife i wasn't going to send it back. Only took 3 hours and two hours in the temering oven but all good now it was a tops eagle shadow knife with kydex sheath my bob knife from tops was great right out of the bag

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  หลายเดือนก่อน

      that surprises me about the Tops. They have soft spines because of the dif heat treat, but they're supposed to. But the edge should be treated very well. Wow!

    • @terrybest8973
      @terrybest8973 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DonnieBAllDay yes it's easy to differently heat treat the spine but this knife is so short it's no point in all that I been building custom knives a very long time it was just a factory screw up and I got it but it's fixed now only one good reason to differently heat treat the spine that's if it's a long blade and for chopping and cutting

    The D-guard would work better for you. I'm a leftie also. Too many of those blades are purely made for righthanded only. 10% of mankind is screwed. Liner locks...
    That edge damage from hitting that piece of wood is crazy btw.
    Many machete's have a tougher steel, better heat treat, than those more expensive swords.
