I’m here in 2024. It CAN happen here and it IS happening NOW.

I to felt that "It Can't Happen Here" was a good read and should be read to get away from "1984". I to read this book after the Nov. 2016 election. The key difference between ICHH and today, in my opinion, is what was implemented in the book, did so because the majority of the people in the book voted for the President. In our reality, the President lost the popular vote and people took to the streets in protest to show their dislike with whom was elected and a resistance was formed on day 1.

"1984" has been applied too often out of pure ignorence of it's point/message! Animal farm fits dmfp!

Another key difference really is the fact that Windrip had his own private army + the popular support.

I found it to be pretty unconvincing. If anything, I finished the book, and thought to myself "yeah, I really don't think it could happen here"

John Calvin would agree it is mans fallen nature, thomas Hobbes would also agree, but he was kinda of a fascist

Hobbes ideas could lead to fascism, but understanding human nature easily leads that way when we consider how savage humans are.
