    When I was 8, in 1978, I spent two months in hospital. By today's standards the children's ward was positively Dickensian. Very little by way of entertainment. After a couple of weeks and surgeries, I was confined to bed, my only company a mono cassette deck, headphones and a copy of JCS. I listened to it over and over. Oddly enough, I've heard very little of it since then. In fact, I've hardly given it a second thought. I think I'll revisit it. For a small but significant time in my life it was a security blanket.

      Toast of London was absolutely HILARIOUS. Every now and then when I need a good laugh; I come back to it. Matt Barry always makes me laugh (especially as Steven Toast.)

      @@nickparsons337I've been a fan of pretty much everything Matt Berry's been in, IT Crowd, TOL, Darkplace, WWDITS etc. - Toast of London is something I regularly go back to, it's my kind of subtle character/situational humor and I love the (generally) understated vibe of the show.

    I did the same thing when i was a kid -listened with super soft squishy head phones and it blew my mind. probably over 15 years ago Ian Gillan starred in the stage version in my backyard city of Schenectady NY. I was in awe

    Does Matt Berry do those intonations in his voice intentionally for comedic purposes?
    Like when he says “languagezzzzz” or “sewperstaarrrr”.
    I always crack up when he does that!

    • @Briansgate
      @Briansgate 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I always think he is doing it for comedy, but, i swear, everything I ever hear him in, he does it every time.

    • @Bjarku
      @Bjarku 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah he does it for comedic effect. Probably as much to amuse himself as anybody else. There are interviews where he’s playing it completely straight and doesn’t do it

    One of my all-time faves as a rock album. Great music, amazing rock vocal performances! Thanks for the post, as this has some info about the album I've never run across. Seems it was even more amazing/fortunate it was ever made.

    An excellent album and a great example of Lloyd Webber's talent to take risks musically as well as capturing the sound of when the piece was written. Rice's fresh lyrics and wit... It really is a masterpiece. They could both do with having a bit of the magic they had then with their latest works.

    Austin Osman Spare?!? Who the heck is commissioning these shows?! Dude was a Crowleyite, and not known for much more than that. Very strange that he should be getting attention on the likes of The Culture Show.
