Also let's just point out that while he is doing very technical vocals, intertwining highs, lows, gutterals, etc. The dude is also shredding guitar simultaneously 😂
about the muffled point. im pretty sure he said he writes out the vocal patterns first, then he adds vowels, and then he writes lyrics to fit it. and if it sounds better without saying the actual words he just lets it stay that way.
I'm with you man. That outro instrumental could have played on for another minute and gone into a slow fade out and I would have been in heaven. I honestly really dislike abrupt ends to songs, especially if the ending is as good as this one.
Heyo. Kardashev fan here turned recent vocal student. I've been getting so much inspiration from the studio project DeadVectors lately. Their vocals are so powerful! I'd love to see you break down Witches Get Stitches from their new album. It goes very hard
When you were going through the levels at 10:35, I finally know where I sit in my usual vocal expression lol I’m basically at that last level, and I’ve actually tried to loosen up more, but that level is just where I’m the most comfortable and just naturally sit
Disembodied Tyrant is, for me, on top of deathcore with signs of the swarm this year. And shout out the underdog To The Grave, not on top but much love.
That’s what I love about vildhjarta. They take their outro and run with it. This one right when he hits that first high scream at the same time as the guitars hitting harmonics just sends chills down my spine.
Question: Whenever I use filters to shape my false chord sound (tongue, mouth shape, etc.) I don’t feel it having that big of an impact, it doesn’t change my scream much (waaaay less than yours). Let’s say I whisper scream or put a basic vocal fry on (not a fry scream, but just some quiet smooth “distortion” if you can call it that), I can hear those changes working very well. What is stopping me from applying these things at a higher volume? Is it my distortion that is not paper ripping smooth and more on the old school death metal choppy side? Is it not enough compression (though I am trying to compress everything above my false chords… I feel a bit lost with that…
Hey mark. Nothing to do with this video but you where talking about loving highs so I gotta ask. Alex Kohler has started a new band with some of the other ex Chelsea grin members called Ameonna. Alex’s high where always what attracted me to him as a vocalist but they just ain’t hitting the same these days. Im too dumb to know if it’s a change in how he’s doing the highs now, or if it’s just a stylistic choice to stop doing his Hugh’s the same way. It got me thinking that a series about the changes and progression of vocalists through the years could be interesting. Just a thought ❤
Mark, brilliant analysis of Blake, he's an absolute titan in the scene - I've moved away from most deathcore and core adjacent metal as of late but he just brings something else to the table that is hard to ignore! Is that rash just some ingrown hair? I get them quite often after I shave, I use an exfoliating acid (glycolic) to help with the red bumps that always used to appear after a shave.
I am really curious about what you think about Immortal Disfigurement s Dragged through the Inferno where CJ McCreery holds a growl for almost 30 seconds long...... th-cam.com/video/gYVNsSHz0Mg/w-d-xo.html Can you hold this for as long as 30 seconds? CJ McCreery shows very special singing techniques
I love your videos man! i Have somewhat of a challenge/question, could you do a video on Cerebral Incubation, and how he does those styles of vocals?? i would love to hear your input on it! thank you
Dude there was a video I found of the absolute sickest whistle tone into another type of scream and I just can’t find it but it sounded just like the scream from the cleric beast in bloodborne. I NEEED to find that video and figure out how it’s done D:
Hey mark. Nothing to do with this video but you where talking about loving crispy highs, so I gotta ask. His voice has changed a little and his approach is also a little different. I remember him talking about it years ago and he said the way he did his highs way back was not healthy for his voice. Alex also just started streaming on twitch. He’ll probably answer you in his chat
Dude u need to do a vocal review of Fred Nylist that dude has a scream that is fucking petrifying him and Blake are the messiahs of the genre atm 😂he recently covered unanswered by suicide silence and its evil if u do a video this would be the one ud wanna do the video on for sure he would of done Mitch proud - th-cam.com/video/UAreR8guOSU/w-d-xo.html
I know you say bioshock but, that's also a spot on Squidward lol. This song is insane glad you're covering it i feel like everyone is still so hung up on the Synestia collab ep. Which is great of course but, this song is absurd. PS: Kardashev is 🔥

Almost impossible (if you wanna give both of them the attention they deserve)!
Chuck Schuldiner paved the way for these kids today.
Came to the comments to mention this. The solo into that sharp verse. 🤤
Blake Mullens is a freaking prodigy
@@KaashUp he is the prodigal son

Mad respect for that approach
He recently talked about his process in a Nik Nokturnal interview, your summary seems accurate just wanted to point out another source!
That's how I've written for years glad to see the bests are doing it too shows I got ts right
Bro Blake Mullens + Ben Duerr are the absolute unstoppable demon kings right now, it's insane how good and fun they are
I'm with you man. That outro instrumental could have played on for another minute and gone into a slow fade out and I would have been in heaven. I honestly really dislike abrupt ends to songs, especially if the ending is as good as this one.
I see Disembodied Tyrant and I watch. It's simple.
The Poetic Edda ending is an insane ride of chaos snd excellent vocals.

There is a interview by NikNocturnal with Blake mullens that could be interesting to you. It is in the recommendations endcard actually haha.
Yeah, especially cool how modest Blake Mullens is with all what he does. DT's stuff is DIY.
Dude i wanna talk about the constriction and shape transitions in that break down, absolute clinic in diverse technical application

This man this Blake, this man. Protect this man
2 more minutes of that outro would still not have been enough, perfectly, brutally composed!
Disembodied Tyrant is likely the best thing i have heard in 2024
To me, that outro demanded a sword.
I totally agree though that it should have been longer and put on a fade out, if I were to write it a least.
I think if it had lasted longer my brain would have whispered "Draw the blade, brother"
There might be a reason to It, since this is part one of the EP It might Skip to another song or intro
It could have easily been longer but fade outs suck. Fade out is for people who don't know how to end their song.
@@usernamenotavailablee Naaah I don’t agree at all.
@patrolmostwanted that's fine but it doesn't change the fact that fade outs are lazy asf 😭
Disembodied Tyrant is, for me, on top of deathcore with signs of the swarm this year. And shout out the underdog To The Grave, not on top but much love.
That song is their best yet!! Blake is a fucking legend nad yet sooooo humble about it!! And mannn that intro is SOOOO sick!
I see the new Saor song in your suggested videos 👌. Any chance of you doing a breakdown of that?
That’s what I love about vildhjarta. They take their outro and run with it. This one right when he hits that first high scream at the same time as the guitars hitting harmonics just sends chills down my spine.
Absolute win on the outro take, need me about 3 more minutes of just that
this man works on sundays. i hope you take of thursdays or whatever, if thats the case! self care!
Haha thanks so much for the kind work! I actually filmed this last Monday, the 25th. But you're right I do work Sundays - mostly giving lessons

Where's the breakdown of A Wake In Providence's newest album? It's album of the year for me!
32:16
I do this exact thing but in audacity 😂
my number 1 song of the year
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure the scream used after the first breakdown is taken from Attack on Titan which is pretty sick
Having seen Blake live, I'd say as a deathcore vocalist, he's second only to Will Ramos. He has unbelievable control over his voice
32:19 exactly
6:06 almost sounds like something u would hear in black metal
I love you too sir. But I love Spicy Mark even more.
Please tell me I’m not the only one that hears goldeneye in the intro
