      Ken Leachman...hahahahahhaa!! What is refreshing is seeing a package on a front porch!!! Did they put "HAZARDOUS WASTE" warning signs on it at the shipper??

      Dean Moore lol it's become more of a work bench these days. Who's got time to walk all the way to the garage??

    We had a MacGregor like yours. We are closing next week on a Catalina 30 tall rig, but there are things we will surely miss with our little MacG. You will LOVE sailing her! She heels over quick but hardens right up at about 20 degrees. Fast and fun! Fair winds!

    Great videos. Keep the kids involved and let them learn with you, everyone should be part of the crew as there are no passengers on a small sailboat. keep the videos coming!

    one suggestion would be to add backing plates wherever you go through the deck. I realize that the centerboard loads are lateral and not vertical, but just a good idea I believe. Best of luck to you!

    Great episode, like your work! Little suggestion for the dagger plate screws would be to put tapered flat head screws they would be flush and impossible that there would be any rubbing. keep up the good work makes me glad to support you!

      S/V Tiny Fisher great suggestion. I did think exactly that when I was sitting there staring at it but it was just one of those things where I wanted to get the project over with. (Plus the closest hardware store that carries stainless is about 30 minutes away). But probably one of those things I'll change out somewhere down the line. I did grind off all the burrs from that bolt though and it should be ok for a while. Thanks so much for your support.

      No problem I know the feeling of living far from stores needed to do projects! By the way I'm maximum ice fishing but renamed my channel as about a month ago bought a Voyager 14 twin keel sailboat. I am slowly swithching over to sailing to continue my passion wich is deep salt water ice fishing to a more year round thing and as an original methode that is more eco friendly, I decide to do this using a sailboat. Hopefully I can eventually turn this into S/V Big Fisher and try a shot at different exotic species.

    Great job. I know what you mean about one job turning into three or four. I did notice the pool in the background is looking pretty gnarly. You might need to take a break from the boat projects for a bit, lol.

    • @SailingFreeStyle
      @SailingFreeStyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol. we just installed a new one from walmart. That other one was toast, I went to finally clean it out and fill it up once the weather got real warm and found a few holes in the liner. So no more nasty pool in the back ground.

    It would have been nice to see you actually raise and lower the center board after the glue had dried that you put down for the block. I can't wait to see you take your first sail though.

    I would not want a ball bearing block on that dagger board. One with a bronze or even plastic bushing would be my preference. I would have used a bit of butyl sealant under the block and under he plate as well. Steel screws to aluminum in sea water means the aluminum will lose the electrolysis battle. Again, I would be using butyl sealant. Just the DAP roofing/gutter butyl works perfectly fine and lasts forever.

    Any wood you ut on the boat coat like varnish with epoxy to keep out water...as you found out fiberglass over wood isnt a for sure seal. You can put fiberglass on epoxy but you shoulddnt/cant eoxy on to fiberlass.. Watch boatworkstoday for better glassing instructiion.

    Here is wishing you well on your Mac! I totally identified with your efforts and frustration. I got my free boat for a dollar down on the Cape where it resides at my folks house. Mass. made me go and get a money order for 6 cents to pay the tax!! No cash! But like you it all worked out and she is now mine. You are way ahead of me because of the age of your boat and I kind of envy you but I also love my old classic! Good luck and don't get discouraged just stay determined!! my 24ft MacGregor keel is 94"x19"x2.75 and is 500lbs so I will not capsize, that don't look right be careful

    • @SailingFreeStyle
      @SailingFreeStyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mike morrow sounds like your keel is what is acting as your ballast. The 26 uses an internal water tank as a ballast and the daggerboard functions as hydrofoil.
