Thank you for showing the differences with the New Omega Springs for the New Benchmade Folders. That spring does look a lot stronger. I've broken the old Omega Springs in my SOCP 391BK, twice... :-) I purchased more Springs on eBay; most likely Chinese Aftermarket Springs, for $10 for eight Springs. I installed them and Lubed them with Lithium based Gun Grease. I never had anymore issues. The reason why I think I was breaking the Springs is because I wasn't using two fingers on the Axis-Lock to open and disengage the Blade. Great Video! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I don’t own a Ganzo, but having taken many a cross bar lock apart these are usually pretty similar. Looking at the pics on Amazon, it has the regular omega springs
I like the basic stone wash pocket clip best. I don’t feel it needs to match the blade finish. I like how the basic version will sort of disappear to the knife, and I like how it looks when it wears. I’d be interested if benchmade makes a 3” blade version of the 710 as well.
Have you considered the new style axis bar as well? I see they moved the shoulders to the inside of the liner. All of the prior axis bars had the shoulders outside the liners. I’m wondering if this provides better tracking of the bar? I typically will switch between one and two fingers to unlock my blade. I know in the past there have been discussions online about this. Many people believe you will damage the lock by unlocking the knife with thumb only. The bar travels on a set path. Irregardless of using one finger on one side VS a finger on each side, I cannot see how it would be any different. Thoughts? Did they stabilize the bar better by switching the shoulders to the inside? Does it really matter if you use one or two fingers? The theory was that somehow using one finger to unlock the axis lock will cause extra wear. I dunno
@@LanningKann That supposition about using 2 vs 1 fingers is an urban legend. I can’t come up with a scenario where a spring would fatigue out over fewer than 10,000 cycles. The reason I find the new lock a better design is because it eliminates an interface between the flange on the cross bar and the milled/molded cavity on the underside of the scale. I personally have seen cases where the cavity was machined at max material condition and the flange touched the wall of the cavity. This causes a vertical blade play. Now there’s only one interface to worry about
@@CuttingBoardRx thank you for your reply. I agree about the urban legend there. Otherwise BM would have supplied instructions on using the lock rather than letting us all fend for ourselves lol. I’m ambidextrous, but as I get older I have some struggles with dexterity due to pain. I love the cross bar, ball lock, Ram lock style as it lets me close the knife however I’m comfortable in that moment. I am curious about the flange causing issues in the cavity. If you have a moment can you share what that means? In my head, I’m picturing the flanged portion of the crossbar at the end, but next to, beneath, the portion your finger touches , which I believe I have described as a “shoulder”, that used to live outside the liner, but inside the scale. Now, with this new design, it appears as if they moved the flange inside the liner. Am I tracking on that, or have I misunderstood? Like if I describe the cross bar unit, and I’m comparing it to a barbell. It’s the tall portion on the end. But not the finger “button” at the end. The tallest part which sits under the finger button. Sorry for failing at my description lol.
Do you think this Axis Lock spring configuration is the best yet, the Anthem’s, or perhaps another design? I’d hypothesize that coil springs, even with smaller cross-sections, might handle more cycles before fatigue failure-but I’m no engineer. Thanks for the video, this is the first look at the new springs I’ve seen.
I actually don’t think the coil springs are great for a folder as they can accumulate moisture or, if oiled, dust and sand. The impinged flat omega springs on the new 710 is the way of the future because
It is a pleasure to watch your video and this one specially is for me because I like BM710 but do not like cheap pocket clips and screws for one time unscrew
I've had to send a bailout & Osborne 940 back to Benchmade for new omega springs while my Ritter Hogues with way more milage still feel perfect. I have a couple kizer & cjrb with similar axis lock style locking system but I've hardly carried those BUT I will say the tension necessary to operate those locks are MUCH stronger and take more strength to operate which actually feels pretty good in hand. When it comes to factory edges, the last two Benchmade that I've purchased both came with very lacking, toothy edges. Both my freek and mini freek edges were very disappointing while all 5 of my Ritter Hogues came with practically a mirrors edge.
I found your video on the new omega springs for the re-release of the 710. I find this very interesting. I always thought this new style spring would be a better mouse trap for material choice , it's puzzling why it took so long for Benchmade to look at the spring in a different way. I guess someone at Benchmade thought that way too finally. Time will tell if it is indeed a better spring setup, I think it is. The biggest issue's I see with engineering departments is there lack of thinking outside the box and looking at new ways to do things instead of relying on past engineering ideas and theory. Some of the most interesting design ideas come from non-engineer trained individuals. Safe queens and Knife Selling companies created this buzz word called "Fidget Factor" that you're not thinking of. I think Benchmade’s quality has dropped while their pricing has skyrocketed to absurdity. Especially when compared to Spyderco, Kershaw, Hogue, Microtech, etc. They are charging Sebenza prices at nowhere near the quality. They have lost their libtard minds.
Quality is the same. The "Benchmade tax" has always existed. This is not new... and has nothing to do with politics. Spyderco also has significantly inflated their prices. I'm sorry but this knife is no where near in terms of anything to cost $600. Especially when it's scarcity is just pushed by the maker. I does not even look good.
@@D2G10 Sure thing, but if you compare it with couple of other all American-made brands, like Medford, Curtis, and Strider, you will see that in this case you’re getting quite a decent knife for your money. You’re welcome to disagree, but the three brands that I mentioned are doing the exact same thing in regards to the scarcity and the quality is waaaaay lower than the custom shop at Benchmade and for more money. If it’s value for your $$$ you’re looking for, Spyderco and Kershaw have you covered. Plenty of reviews on this channel to prove my point.
I find it amusing expensive benchmade decided to redesign then fix a problem. Yet a cheap Chinese crossbar lock doesn't have the same problem. This to me is another example why i will never waste money on benchmade. I stopped with benchmade after i found them donating to act-blue. I don't understand the cult following. Everything they make is always something wrong.
Why do you do these reviews like these knives are anywhere close to worth what they charge? Are you a sponsor for benchmade? And that is a real question. These knives are so overpriced, It doesn’t even matter what the features are. And did you just say they pay attention when their customer say something? People have been making these complaints about bench made for years and years and years if not a decade. Nobody thinks a benchmade bugout is a bad knife for $75. But when you charge 3 times the worth to 50-60 year olds in sporting goods stores it ridiculous and should be stopped.
Yes this channel with less than 7k subscribers is a sponsor for benchmade as well as a sleeper agent. I mean come on this guy spent like half the video bashing benchmade saying,”yeah it’s a cool knife but it’s not worth it”. It like your mongoloid brain couldn’t comprehend this entire video. Either that or you’re a caveman that has no idea how to watch a video on TH-cam because you clearly didn’t watch it. Interesting that you know how to comment though. Regardless am I a benchmade fan boy? Yes. Are these knives worth it? No, unless discounted or second hand. The 710 especially is not worth it, it’s crazy expensive but at the same time so are gucci glasses but I don’t see you complaining about that. Benchmade isn’t the only knife company that’s overpriced countless other companies knives are overpriced yet people choose to think it’s only Benchmade that is overpriced. This is why I really don’t like the EDC community as a whole and why I really appreciate this channel. To sum it up, you’re an idiot sandwich and yes benchmades are expensive.
why do you watch videos about a knife brand you have such a serious problem with? Did you come here just to complain? If so you need a new hobby. Maybe try actually collecting knives and enjoying them instead of just bringing up the vastly overstated point about how expensive they are.

Ever since Les De Asis retired, Benchmade has been going down hill. There keep getting more expensive while making lower quality.
Les actually passed away. RIP
@@CuttingBoardRx Thanks for that info. I always thought he was a great influence on the knife community. RIP Les.
I buy all knives out of my own pocket.
why do you watch videos about a knife brand you have such a serious problem with?
Did you come here just to complain? If so you need a new hobby.
Maybe try actually collecting knives and enjoying them instead of just bringing up the vastly overstated point about how expensive they are.
@coloradohikertrash9958 well Sir, I don’t think 6730 people would agree with your opinion. And I shall let you in on a secret: every time you make a comment on a TH-cam video, the AI algorithm shows the video to people with profiles similar to yours. So thanks for promoting my video.
Edit: just went from 6730 to 6734 subbs while I was responding to your comment 👍 Thanks again, friend!
Why do all the "buy American" clowns always fail even the slightest test of their beliefs
