Have you been discouraged from doing so because of its age or because it touches subjects that terrify you?
Silent Hill 2, the game that, till this day, is promoted as THE GAME that everyone should play to understand that games aren’t just for kids and that they, in fact, are another step for entertainment evolution.
A lot of people say this game is too deep and might be hard on those who are sensitive to topics of mental illness and violence, however they also forget to to tell others, that Silent Hill 2 is really old and with old mechanics, and even though some call it the best story of any Silent Hill, not a lot of people have been able to experience it. But don’t worry, in this video I will try to explain THE WHOLE GAME as fast as possible so you don’t have to deal with it, so get comfy and enjoy.

Not i believe that sh is in fact purgatory its the most logical explanation for all the demons and crazy type shit you see like Maria dying 3 times the guy was alucinating

@@stephenpace8696 Leave ending has it's own parallels and themes if you wanna go that route. Team silent themselves have said it, there's no definitive or canon ending. Take in James' life as you like, and pick what ending would fit your understanding of James. On one hand he shows disregard for himself and self hatred a lot, and there's some water themes as well. On the other hand, so much of the game is about him refusing to give up. Fighting the pyramid heads and his twisted version of Maria and saying he wouldn't kill himself to Angela makes no sense if he just goes to kill himself after all of his battles
That ending letter is pinnacle of saddest game/movie moments. I'm not a story gamer, I'm much more of a gameplay guy like Castlevania, Metroid and Mega Man.
This game is an exception. I never skip scenes.
Yeah, I always heard it was hard to hear and I didn’t believe it, until I played it.
I think this series shows that the gameplay isn’t always important, sometimes the vibe is the thing that makes or breaks a game.
@leodese_ gameplay in SH2 is still good though especially for a game like this. Take Heavy Rain, that game sucks imo. Heavy I don't remotely care.
Silent Hill 2 is just special and to be fair the 1st 3 are all very special.
I think personally the “In Water” ending is the most realistic

I always saw all the endings as interluded, during the whole game the town has used water as a way to remind James of what he himself wanted, drowning in the lake with Mary and dying. The town itself has an agenda, it wants james to commit suicide but does not have the power to influence James himself. In water becomes canon if you as James accepts that all the water has been a reminder of commiting suicide, if you support the leave ending you realize James has the willpower to overcome the town’s wants and power, the town even makes a grave for James, trying to persuade him suicide is the answer. Which ending is canon is always up to you, my head canon is that Leave, In water, Maria and Rebirth are all the canon endings. I think James killed himself immediately when he came to the town, trying to lie to himself about his sin became impossible and he killed himself. While in his dying moments drowning, the town itself infiltrates James mind and shows him the scenarios of Maria, Leave, in water and Rebirth ending. Although it is too late for James to change his fate after having seen the visions.
There's no evidence that supports your theory. But if you play Silent Hill 4, there is evidence that the most likely real ending is In Water ending. There's a slight possibility for Rebirth. In Silent Hill 4 you meet James' father. And it is mentioned by the protagonist that James and his wife disappeared, never to be seen again. Which means that James didn't leave Silent Hill with either Laura or Maria.
Leave ending happened in the fog, same situation on Homecoming, you don't know if only Laura and Elle just get out, and James and Alex can't. The movie was more explicit about this, Rose never gets out of the fog. According with SH4, and Downpour, both James and Alex are gone. In Sh4 the father of James said he is missing, on Downpour there is a file about a young patient that resemble Alex, and he lost his life.

I played this when it was newly released and before TH-cam existed to explain things for you. It took me no less than three playthroughs to understand back then.
Yeah, I do these also for me because sometimes I don’t pay attention to the stories unless I focus on them and not the gameplay

Yeah, it's such a good detail, although I didn't want to talk about it because then I would feel the need to talk about all the others 😅
its his older model i believe and there's 2 possible theories, reused asset or hallucinations. the latter sounds in line with SH2 themes
@@ziqqerlad looks more like a foreshadowing of the situation. We encounter this character who we assume is a random person dead in a chair in front of a TV, and when James encounters the footage and watches it to reveal that he was the one killing Mary, he just breaks down in the chair almost if not exactly in the same position as that dead body. I think it's like a metaphor saying that James' life ended there when he found out about the truth. Maybe it's also a good reason to start believing that the water ending is more fitting, even though it's not exactly a happy ending.
That has been debunked as Konami just reusing character models. But it is a reference to the water ending due to his suicidal tendencies

In the rebirth ending, where does James get Mary's body from? It must have been in the trunk of his car the whole time. He didn't kill her 3 years ago but killed her only recently.

@@Ontiming2023 silent hill 2 makes no sense? It's set in a fictional supernatural town that warps reality, and James has mental issues, that's why things are often so weird. It's not meant to follow the normal laws of reality.

How excited are you for the remake? I’m optimistic. The graphics alone are worth playing it as long as they hold up. I mean it’s not like the bar is set high, but I’m sure the developers are worried about what we will think of it
Honestly? I only watched the last trailer 2 days ago and man, I think I have little optimism left for it.
The animations look stiff and really “indie-like” which I hate and the whole UI and HUD is honestly the worst thing they could have ever done. I have other nitpicks with it but I want to wait for its release before I critique it as a whole.

SH2 continue with the topic of Lisa in SH1, yeah, she is there, but why?, and the most important part she said "I'm one of them". This phrase is use a lot on SH2 by Angela, and also Eddie. We are the same, they said, that's pretty much sum what is going on, they are already gone, another character in this situation is Walter Sullivan.
All these characters are already in the afterlife, but stuck in SH maybe forever, in a loop. In the case of SH2, the best closure to fit into this is "In water" bc he will drown in the lake with his wife, then return back again, discovered the truth, and then in water again. The eternal loop.
Now, what happen to Maria?, that's an interesting point, bc another character in this situation is Alex Shepherd, he wasn't a soldier, but returned as a soldier by the town. So we don't know, if Maria and Alex can have a second chance to live, or they are just there like citizens of SH, unable to get out.

@@leodese_ horrifying yes, but i believe the sadness outweighs that. my own perspective is based on my own experiences and how they impact me on a psychological level. to see a physical manifestation of the most damaging thing a girl has been through is heart breaking, yk? its less fear/repulsion with the monster itself, and more sympathy toward angela/what she lived through.

@@leodese_ In the past when life expectancy was lower, definitely. It probably is more subjective than I make it sound though. When I was younger I thought 30+ was old but I’m now 32 and I feel just fine and don’t really look much different either lol. In fact, I’m in better shape than when I was younger.

I just completed the game.
Overall this felt to easy. Same monsters everywhere. I had tons of ammo and 90% of the time I was just using the stick.
But the most dissapointing thing. I wanted atleast Maria to not be a monster. The ending was crap..

It’s not Hell the town uses the characters inner thoughts and trauma with the exception of Laura who doesn’t see the monsters, Maria is a manifestation of James sexual desire for his wife, it’s not a different reality James escapes to he just leaves the town
