    Written by 13 year old Pau about addiction for their first album XXI Century blood. Overall Mexicans have learned to love TW. But there are still detractors who call them cultural traitors, who have said their parents bought their career, and that they are successfull only because they are pretty. The songs Narcissista and Six Feet Deep are their response.

    • @deamonlite
      @deamonlite วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I’m Mexican and I love TW, however, for me the word 'malinchista' doesn’t mean 'cultural traitor.' It simply refers to someone who has a preference for foreign things or maybe lacks pride in national things, but calling it 'cultural traitor' is too strong. By the way, I ask, is 'cultural cringe' the same as 'cultural traitor'?

    These days, TW are more popular in Mexico than anywhere else. They have sold out two shows in CDMX for next Feb at 10,000 cpacity a pop. They've scheduled shows in Monterrey (around 8K cap) and Guadalajara (11.5K) but IIDK if those have sold out yet. Internationally they are cultural ambassadors for Mexico, always mentioning their heritage to the crowds and singing songs in Spanish, which many in the crowds sing back to them. How cool is it that they are inspiring people to consider Mexican language and culture in a different light? They still have haters in Mexico, but at this point, I believe it is borne out of envy for their success more than anything. Obviously, they have many, many domestic fans coming to see them (even though many folks in the Mexican shows' crowds come from other countries as well, including the US, Canada, and even the UK and Europe.

    In 2023 they did 3 full production shows in Guad, Mnty, and CDMX. These was to celebrate their 10 yr anniversary as a band. They debuted 2 new songs at these shows a year in advance of the next LP, "Keep me fed." They had invited this wonderful all female 10 pc string orchestra from their hometown of Monterrey ,to join them for 3 songs each show. Black holes, Breathe, and Enter Sandman, all in a row. They was all sick but you really can't tell other than they was a highly emotional. While Pau's super emotional performances was crazy good, Enter Sandman was simply put.... The best version they have done to this day. Those 13 Women on that stage, melted 8000 faces off, with a fierce performance that moved my soul! It's now available to view on their YT channel.

    Ale commented in an interview "We're Mexican so we make Mexican music, it's who we are" Language doesn't matter. I did see an explanation of some of the heat they get in the Mexican rock community. Apparently the community has a gap where basic rock goes, so the Warning gets placed in the metal category and the metal heads complain that they aren't real metal.

    It is a lovely song isn't it? While speaking about how they are perceived in Mexico or in Latin countries as a whole, they have now entered further into the awards realm with a Latin Grammy nomination for their song "¿Qué más quieres?" from their latest album Keep Me Fed. It's a Spanish song, so would it be nominated if it were in English? I don't know, but while it was being written it started out in English, but they decided it needed to be rewritten in Spanish. Good move.

    PAULINA PAULINA PAULINA... how does it feel to hear 8000 people chant your name, in your home country no less? Pau is one of the few people who knows. And she deserved each and every "PAULINA" she got that night. The crowds at Teatro Metropolitan and this Pepsi Center show clearly have no problem with them singing in english, they are even singing along. The song you were talking about where they tell the (few?) haters off, who do have a problem with them singing in english, is called Narcisista. About this whole singing in english business, there are always going to be close minded people who don't see the bigger picture, and think that bands from their own country always have to represent only them, and that they can't do that if they're not singing in their own language. It's a bit like metal elitists in a way, who think that metal should only be in one certain way, so only they will get it, and if their favorite bands change their sound, they are suddenly sell outs.
    DPA are bilingual, and want to reach out to as many people as possible I guess, english is the language of the world after all, and DPA are people of the world. They speak spanish in Mexico, not "mexican" as far as I know. There might be some differences between mexican spanish and spanish spanish, I don't speak spanish, so I wouldn't know. I do think however, that it's a beautiful language, that is very "musical". I like it when I'm able to understand the lyrics, that said, I love Martirio, another spanish song by The Warning, I even listen to bands like Nemophila and BAND-MAID, who mostly sing in japanese, which I also don't speak. I mean, english isn't my first language, still 90% of the bands I listen to sing in english, and some of them don't have english as their first language either.
    And now on to Breathe, don't forget to bring the tissues, and to turn on the captions, Pau's little spanish speech before she starts singing is heartfelt and wholesome. She also was sick during this performance, that makes it even more impressive.

    In multiple interviews, Dany, Pau and Ale have said that it’s easier to wrote rock music in English. The words are typically shorter and the flow is much simpler and is better suited, due to linguistic composition. They still get some push back, but the majority of people are understanding. Those who are overly judgemental and try to change them can pound sand.

    Don't worry about not watching all of them: I'm only spamming these because that's how they're releasing them (pretty much one a day). Whether you want to react to them or listen to them yourselves is entirely up to you. Suggestion though: now that you've done Black Holes, do Breathe (same concert) next: Pau played them back-to-back and got, if anything, even more emotional about that one. It's also worth turning on the English subtitles because then you'll get what she says to the crowd about the song, which is very relevant.
    We've all come to love feisty Pau, but vulnerable Pau is a whole other mood, isn't it? I hope there was somebody to give her a big hug when she came off stage after doing these two (I'm sure there was).
    On Spanish language songs, yes, you're right that they've got a bit of flak for not doing more in the past. Off the top of my head, I think they have about three or four in their repertoire now.

    The criticism towards the warning by the more intellectual sector and majority of mexican society is totally valid and justified.
    It is also infantile and toxic of much of the warnings fan base to try to discredit or dismiss any valid criticism as a mere display of so-called "hate" or to see it as a personal attack on the band.
    It is not their talent or work that is being questioned. It also goes beyond the simple conversation of musical tastes. If mexicans were not still under colonial rule and if they were firmly planted in their true history and identity then there would be no problem in using the colonially imposed dialects of english and spanish to further our interests, but this is not the case.
    The normalization of assimilation into the imposed imperialist culture represents a regression and devolution, and is counterproductive to mexicans since it has the potential to lead to the fragmentation degradation and eventual destruction of mexican peoples identity.
    It is also none of any outsiders business to determine what is beneficial for mexican society. That is a conversation reserved exclusively for mexicans
