in the newer versions of Ableton, Default settings of Operator are different than what we see in the video. Pause and check if your settings match. I also had to turn down the freq
@John Proctor he said that at a certain point, lower frequencies aren't heard on a phone speaker. So if someone's listening on a phone, it's important to boost the frequencies the phone can play. I assume "Myspace " refers to the fact that your friends may be discovering your music through a social media app such as myspace, which probably means they're using their phone.
Thought I'd give my man a proper shout - the technique used to make this neurobass was developed by COPYCATT - support him here: open.spotify.com/artist/5XmObiDv74Etc9tJFMRtC4?si=umCLW0urSqu2-ETIkqyEtQ
I can confirm we talked and that this man is a verified True Boy. The tutorial I made is owned by a company that will probably never upload it, and to be honest I think this explanation is better. I appreciate the support guys but we are friends now, and he will be allowed to borrow my PS2.
I followed along with Massive 1 and Reaper. Trickiest part was the sweeping bandpass filter. In the trim selection you can choose the mod option for the freq of the bp filter and lock it to the macro you use for the LP filter in Massive. Also instead of a separate chain bypassing the band pass filter, you can just adjust the wet/dry mix (i was using ReaEQ). I also just grabbed the OTT plug-in from xfer, it's free.
This is cool and adds an interesting element to music. I esp. like the way the wumpus dances on the screen. lol I heard some of these neurobass sounds in some of your spotify songs and its sounds good.
You see fellows, the secret to bass is that you can never have enough OTT. Missing some sauce? OTT. New effects took away some sauce OTT. Already have enough sauce? OTT. You have too much sauce now, well OTT. You've been stuck in your room for 5 hours making Neuro basses and your parents are concerned? Slap some OTT on your parents. you've been kicked out of your house and are in dire need of food. eat some /msg/ OTT. Dead? ... Just remember, you can never have enough OTT, and if you keep slapping them on, you'll eventually solve all your problems.

Dude you're amazing, the perfect mix of humour and impeccable technical knowledge ! That's exactly the kind of content that we need and I want to defend on internet or on stage with my bands ! I just loved designing this Neurobass and laughing because I Am Very Smart and I want to impress my friends hahaha
This doesn't work on Ableton Live 11 unfortunately, as is the case with a lot of Operator tutorials online now. No idea why they'd change all the defaults like that, it really messed up a lot of older content. I had an Ableton instructor look at a project file from a modular drum patch tutorial I was trying to follow online and he was stumped, it just wasn't compatible with my version of Ableton. I really wish they'd just left it alone, this neurobass sounds great!
This is basically SeamlessR but he doesn't stumble over his words every 5 seconds. I'm not questioning the guy's abilities at all, but you gotta admit that this is more pleasant to listen to.
Nick the work flow in the video resembles contemporary artist such that of mefjus and Audio (the producer) while seamlessR replicates older sounds like spore while doing some experimental stuff
Nick i love both. But i use FL so it’s a bit easier to retain information from seamless because its the same daw. Theyre both awesome and have different teaching styles
Very cool to see some videos of people working on bass techniques for performance! I'm doing the same using Eurorack. I'm hoping to post some of my methods soon!
Man god damn, I jumped between your vids And had to leave some behind, since I wasn’t ‚ready‘ for the content, so damn happy I’m finally where I wanted to be at ! By now i can do these things on ease, thanks so much mane, wowzers !
Awesome tutorial and hilarious. I'm holding you responsible if I start saying wowzers all the time, LOL. The trick at the end of "performing" the effects was brilliant.
Can anyone explain why I have to raise my filter freq up to around 1.9kHz before I get the same sound as his at 300Hz? I've gone through the video multiple times and triple checked that every parameter in my Operator is the same from the very start and have no idea why I can't hear anything but low bass below 1.9kHz - any insight would be greatly appreciated!
I have this weird thing with operator in ableton 11, I have to push the filter above 10khz to get the full sound of the harmonics (even though they sit at no more than 310hz. I start hearing them at around 1khz cutoff), if I put it at 300hz like you did in your video I hear basically nothing (only a muffled fundamental, no harmonics), even if I push the levels really high. On the spectrum it looks like the filter reduces the sound waaay below the cutoff, at 1khz the third harmonic is at -48 db, with the cutoff at the max it's at like -7db, at 300hz they're at an abysmal ~-100db. For this test (no effects after operator), I have the three oscillators at 0db (except the second harmonic, I put it at -4.4db), and operators output is at -5.4db (I get distortion above that). (Also, unrelated, for some reason the sustain is at the max on the first oscillator by default but not on the others). Also I don't understand how you can get this sound with -12 to -15db on the oscillators and -12db on the output, I have to push everything way higher to get the saturation to do anything. Overall I can get a similar sound by changing levels and cutoffs but I just wonder why it works differently on my system, anyone knows why ? I just want my filters to work like they should.
SAME BUT I FOUND THE SOLUTION! His Operator probably has different default settings to ours so I had to check every single one of his settings and match them up. I found that there was a setting in my operator filter that was messing everything up. It's the freq>key setting, which I had be default at 100% when it should've been at 0% like in the video.
I am following this step for step and for some reason the sound goes super quiet and barely audible. It also does not sound anything like yours. Any suggestions? Note: Gone through it twice now and same thing, cant nail down what is making it so quiet and weird sounding.
