? Underrated? No, it was very mainstream and popular. If a band was on MTV almost every day then it wasn't underrated. That's like saying Queens of the Stone Age 'Go with the Flow' was underrated. Just not true. Really good album though, you got good taste! If you like this then check out Aphrodite's Child 'Four Horsemen', he took a bit from their sound, and Comus (their first album) Conceptually it was dark as you like yet also equally creative. They are much more 70's folk horror than glam rock.

I was 16 years old when I first heard MM and was blown away and in absolute awe of how bold and brave he was and still is today. He inspired my love for all things dark. By 17 years old I painted my room blood red with a black ceiling and had posters of NIN and MM plastered on every inch of my walls. I got kicked out of the house by 18 and my mom confiscated all my MM cd's telling me it was devil worshipping music. And here we are today, nearly 30 years later and still rocking the hell out of the same music. I'm 45 now and will soon be taking my 19-year-old son to his very 1st concert. And guess who we're going to see? MM and the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago (Aug 17, 2024) .... HERE WE COME!!!! Never really gave this guy a chance when I was younger, mostly because of my upbringing. I turned 40 this year and clicked when one of his videos showed up in my recommendations and now I am slowly working my way through his albums. This has to be one of my favorite songs so far that I've listened to from him. He really was ahead of his time.

If you never got into NIN, definitely check out Trent Reznor's work now too, I didn't care a ton back in the day, but once I hit my 30s, I really started to appreciate these two and their creative genius.
If the girl knew it, she could slowly grind and be more teasing while it builds and then take you on a ride by moving right when the chorus kicks in. Really good choice for that.

This is one of my favorite music videos of all time. This was the first time I saw what Manson looked like in this era, and I was blown away. Changing his look and style completely was an enormous risk, and he pulled it off. I know alot of fans rejected this era, but to me it's one of my favorites. By far his second best album (behind Portrait, of course), and the only album I have ever found of which I love every songle track on it. A true masterpiece.

I remember perfectly the moment when my 10-year-old daughter told me: Mom, I really like this Marilyn Manson song. I had to make an effort, because it terrified me. We're talking about 2005 or so.I was a bit prejudiced, and every time I saw the video with the pig (as I called it) I changed the channel. But then I loved his music deeply myself. And then, my daughter and I, we went to discover his songs. And we watched every video together. And now that my daughter is 26, we talk about it sometimes and think about how cool Manson was a few years ago. We also saw the concert in Milan together and it was great. So many good memories. I remember MM saying in an interview that parents should bring their kids to a concert before judging him. I listened to him with my kids also. Along with korn, Beatles, led zeppelin. My kids are cool and it DID create a bond for us.
oh goodness yes, my kids grew up on his music. I gave up censoring them because it's fairly impossible these days. No Cradle Of Filth videos (stands to reason), but they listened to that music too because hubby and I love metal, goth anything hard and heavy. They grew up better for the exposure. I think during a lot of the high school crap that goes on, MM and all the rest kept them strong and they felt truly understood by these icons. Music is magical, it truly is.

This wouldn't have fazed me at all if I were 4 years old so how in the hell does a person who has seen much more than the average person cry? I'm so grateful that I got to experience music from the 90's and early 2000's. Grateful for Manson -who had real depth and provoked thought/free thinking. For that, Manson ranks as one of the most brilliant masterminds in Rock 'n' Roll history. Also, I remember the popular old school myth of Manson "removing his ribs to give himself oral pleasure" were created after Mechanical Animals was released due to this song and video, and being hilariously spread through school hallways as if it was important gossip. lol Good times. The Mechanical Animals/Anti-Christ Superstar eras in the late 90's were the absolute best.

I was 16 years old when I first heard MM and was blown away and in absolute awe of how bold and brave he was and still is today. He inspired my love for all things dark. By 17 years old I painted my room blood red with a black ceiling and had posters of NIN and MM plastered on every inch of my walls. I got kicked out of the house by 18 and my mom confiscated all my MM cd's telling me it was devil worshipping music. And here we are today, nearly 30 years later and still rocking the hell out of the same music. I'm 45 now and will soon be taking my 19-year-old son to his very 1st concert. And guess who we're going to see? MM and the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago (Aug 17, 2024) .... HERE WE COME!!!! Never really gave this guy a chance when I was younger, mostly because of my upbringing. I turned 40 this year and clicked when one of his videos showed up in my recommendations and now I am slowly working my way through his albums. This has to be one of my favorite songs so far that I've listened to from him. He really was ahead of his time.
I figured he would be too generic since he was commercially signed like a lot of pseudo-goth bands become. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Never let the indie circlejerk keep you from great music.
If you never got into NIN, definitely check out Trent Reznor's work now too, I didn't care a ton back in the day, but once I hit my 30s, I really started to appreciate these two and their creative genius.
So sad you missed out on this and Beautiful People back then. That was my Manson favorite.

This is one of my favorite music videos of all time. This was the first time I saw what Manson looked like in this era, and I was blown away. Changing his look and style completely was an enormous risk, and he pulled it off. I know alot of fans rejected this era, but to me it's one of my favorites. By far his second best album (behind Portrait, of course), and the only album I have ever found of which I love every songle track on it. A true masterpiece.

oh goodness yes, my kids grew up on his music. I gave up censoring them because it's fairly impossible these days. No Cradle Of Filth videos (stands to reason), but they listened to that music too because hubby and I love metal, goth anything hard and heavy. They grew up better for the exposure. I think during a lot of the high school crap that goes on, MM and all the rest kept them strong and they felt truly understood by these icons. Music is magical, it truly is.

When the 'Dope Show' singles and music video dropped and was broadcast on MTV, the media ate it up clean. Everything Manson express in this particular video rang true and still does today. For that, Manson ranks as one of the most brilliant masterminds in Rock 'n' Roll history. Also, I remember the popular old school myth of Manson "removing his ribs to give himself oral pleasure" were created after Mechanical Animals was released due to this song and video, and being hilariously spread through school hallways as if it was important gossip. lol Good times. The Mechanical Animals/Anti-Christ Superstar eras in the late 90's were the absolute best.
There was also the rumour that he had ACTUALLY got breast implants done! Because, of course, there's no way a guy could just wear a pair of fake breasts under the costume for the photo shoot...
For people who weren't around, I feel like it would be such a challenge to explain how culturally significant Marilyn Manson was, and even saying that feels kind of bizarre.
I remember the liner notes crediting a plastic surgeon which I thought was a nice touch of foresight.
