Re Time settings. I don't know whether all energy companies are the same, but Octopus uses UTC, not local time, so be aware when setting the time on the inverter
Thanks Peter for the video - really helpful. You have a knack for explaining in a clear and understanding way. Just had my Solis inverter installed - I'm now confident to at least touch those buttons!! Hoping you will continue with more.
Thanks for sharing with octopus Exporting More than using getting high bills clock time was out by one hour. Also switched to cheap charging for battery
Really like this channel, thanks Peter, would be great to have an overview of your full system and any pros and cons you have from your setup or it’s installation?
Hi Peter, great video thank you, my inverter and batteries don't seem to be on at all, I've just moved in and had broadband connected which goes into the data logger but I'm a complete beginner with solar and no idea what to do and if it's all broken!
Thank you for sharing this video I want to ask you kindly if you can present a video with this scenario: No battery(battery less mode) , self use and no export allowed. Suppose that PV is under 1KW and the load required power is more then 1KW then difference is realy pulled from the grid?I'm looking for an inverter who can power my load only from PV and grid in the same time...
We have a hybrid 6kw solis inveter and a volt protector device attached before it. The voltage protector show 2 to 2.5 amp import from grid while the inverter app shows that grid is not being used and power is only coming from solar. What is the problem?
Is there any way to access the settings shown in these videos other than by going directly to the inverter control panel - e.g. a web page - and avoid climbing into a loft? The basic web page I can see on my system only allows very basic setting changes such as WiFi connections and server addresses - is there also a URL that would give access to the more advanced functions? Thanks
Hi. Yes. Both. Assuming you've requested remote management permissions, under the Device, three dots top right of the screen on both the web interface and the phone/tablet app.
Thanks for the video. My Solis inverter has an additional symbol on the main display screen showing output from the inverter going to a lightbulb, do you know what this means? Your inverter doesn't show this and I can't find any information about it.
A lightbulb icon with 4 sparks coming from the top? From my Solis manual: Critical Loads: Loads connected to the AC Backup port which will be supported by battery and solar even if the grid is in malfunction.
Mi scusi ho 2 batterie us3000c ma non è stato settato nessuna batteria come master può influire?. Grazie ho un inverter della solis da 5kw per le info del bms ho il cavo sulla porta a/can
Hi Peter. Thank you for your share. Helpful tutorial! From your video I can see in all screens when the first diagram si visible that the consumtion of your house is lower aproximatly ~100-130w than the input power from PV and from the battery. This is the power consumtion of the inverter for self use?
Hi Thanks for this video. I have a similar setup as you. Can i add a second inverter with a second solar array and have it work with this inverter and batteries? how would i connect it?
Hi. You can indeed. The AC charger is bi-directional on a Solis. So install a second string inverter + panels, and any surplus (as in export to the grid) from the second install is seen as surplus via the Solis meter/CT combo and used to charge the batteries on the hybrid. No interlinking/cabling/config required. Literally install the second (none battery) system as if the first wasn't there and it will work perfectly. You would of course need DNO approval for the additonal potential export capacity first.
Hi. It is indeed. It will charge with any surplus the management CT sees. So as long as that is at the edge of your house ie under your utility meter and the existing PV is inside it, it will happy use the surplus to charge. No config needed. Its the out of box setup for self use mode.
Hi Peter, Thanks for the video, we had our battery installed on sat. The weather has been rubbish since, and according to our app, we have produced no power. We are on economy 7 and asked the installer t to set up the times for the battery to charge in the cheap period overnight. But it's doing it at prime time. Please can you explain how we change it. Many thanks Ceil
Hi Celia. I aren't surprised you've made little to nothing from solar. I'm just the same. There's something there, but it's barely countable. I've put together a video on that already for you! Take a look here, and if you've any questions, just shout! th-cam.com/video/h1A80cSOrhA/w-d-xo.html
Please keep these videos coming to a novice this stuff is so useful. I think most people will want a video on the below if you could make one? I just want to use all the energy, any spare sent to batterys and then anything else sent to grid. I think this is Self-Use mode but do I need to set up discharge timings etc?
Hi James. Thanks for the kind words. Self use mode does exactly what you describe. PV supports house load, then if surplus Charges Batteries then if they're full Exports (unless configured not to) You do not need anything on the Time of Use screen (with charge/discharge) timebands to perform this. Indeed you'd be better with that screen set to Stop. Charge fields on the time of use screen are for forcing battery charging from the grid, and conversley the discharge fields are to force your inverter to dump the contents of your batteries back to the grid (if you were being paid a super premium export rate you might choose to tip all your stored energy back for example).
Hi Peter, I have just installed a Solis Hybrid inverter and three US3000c batteries. Your channel has been very helpful in getting it up and running. The solar panels should be ready to connect in a couple of months when I finish building my shed. One issue that I have is that my inverter consumes around 150w 24 hours a day which seems a huge amount of energy. When I look at the screen on your inverter it seems that your inverter is consuming around the same. Is this correct? This doesn't seem to reflect the stated 98% efficiency.
I'm wanting to buy this inverter SOLIS RHI-5K-48ES-5G 5KW HYBRID SOLAR INVERTER inverter work off grid for a home office garden shed and use mains power as a back up if the batteries connected or the solar pannels have low input power to charge the battery's and use appliances at the same time will it work thanx in advance
Hi Pk on Solis, can help me to understand why will electric usage skyrocketed soon as I put on my storage battery and keeps charging at anytime even when I have set up charge time to be 2 am till 4 am.
Most commonly it is because the monitoring CT is either on the wrong cable (i.e. not under the supply meter and has been installed under the inverter or only on the household consumer unit when it also needs to see the (separate) PV board). Or it's facing the wrong way around on the cable it's attached to.
If i wont to stop export an use PV power and battery for the house and if both not enough if grid can supply power what is the setting that i have to use
That is the default - Self Use Mode. Ensure all other modes are specifically disabled, as enabling self use doesn't automatically turn all the others off.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. Unfortuntely it's not a setup I'm familiar with so can't really help on this one. There are two Solis Facebook pages which might be a better bet, or the DIY Solar project page is also popular. They maybe able to help.
Hi. It will charge batts from solar by default in Self Use mode during the day. If you check my other videos there's a couple on overnight charging from the grid which you can set to your cheap energy timeslot.
Hi, Newbi here and ask a silly question time. Just had a 50Kw solar PV system installed with a Solis Inverter. As it is a commercial use property I have not invested in any battery storage yet as there is minimal power demand after about 6pm. What size battery storage should i be looking at given that the solar energy is providing most of the demand, well on sunny days anyway
Hi Peter, great videos, is it possible for you to do a video on setting the backflow power, if I turn it off my battery's recharge at the full rate of the solar panels, but after they recharge nothing goes back to the grid and the panels stop producing, if I turn it on and set it to the amount the inverter can send back to the grid it will recharge the battery at a low rate and send excess back, I have an Eddie diverter so I need to find the right balance.
I have the exact same problem daughy doc. When batteries are fully charged, the solar panels start clipping down to nothing in full sun. I would like the excess to go back to the grid, but obviously not from my batteries. Hope Peter can help us out.
@@chrispotts969 While testing the other day, I found that I could limit the amount the percentage of the battery drained to. My 2, 5kwh batteries are in parallel so I had issues with them communicating with eachother, there generic bms, not the standard solis batteries. My issue was one battery pulled power from the other leaving it at 0%. Switching the master to slave and slave to master seemed to have fixed the issue and they're now in sync. For how long I don't know, I set the inverter to drain to 50% capacity only, and set the over discharge to 40%.. these are the maximum allowed settings, I set the force charge to 40% at 25amps and when the batteries hit 40% discharge, the power was coming from grid only... This isn't ideal for everyone but the 20% discharge wasn't kicking in and it was leaving my second battery drained from powering my other one.. I set the backflow power to off, and have left it at 100 watts, as the weather is terrible, but that will change in summer.. not sure why this inverter isn't playing ball
Hi Peter, great videos. Just a quick question if you may. I have x2 Pylontech 2000cs and have just got a Pylontech 5000c which is now the master. Hi. Which model of hybrid do you have? Assuming its a 4.6/5/6kW model then yes the sustained rate of 80a is comfortable. You can peak to 100a but it won't sustain that for hours on end.
