Hi Tony! I can certainly endorse the Hyatt Centric Gran Via as a great (if expensive) place to stay. We spent several nights there using points last year, and it was a perfect location for seeing Madrid.
I stayed in the Hotels just outside Charmartin station. Easy/Fast connection to Airport AND Sol (center) Due to the Overground (and also underground) trains, surprised this option NOT mentioned.
As we make it clear in the video, there is no bad region for as long as it is well connected. However, we factor in distance when we make our recommendations, holiday time is a precious commodity. Chamartín is fine but too far to make it to our top list for Madrid first-timers.
