@Surfer yep. Secret Movie Club in the downtown arts district on a double bill with Trust (which was not in 35, although I know a new print was struck in recent years)
I love how Hal Hartley puts a little dance into all of his films. I wish Martin Donovan would act in a Hal film again. Last one he was in was The Book of Life (1998). Too bad Hal doesn't make movies anymore.
@@somniansvulpes Unfortunately, Production and filming of Hartley's next film "Where to Land" has been halted until the pandemic clears up a bit. I got refunded on Kickstarter :(
This scene has always brought me great joy to watch. Still does after all these years.
30 years later and still magical.
Remake plase
Very fortunate to see this wonderful film in 35mm last night. Truly remarkable.

PERFECTION. via Hartley.

They got the whole Hartley catalog on Criterion Channel right now
Used to watch this and Amateur on IFC in the early 2000s. I loved Sonic Youth and I remember Amateur had a SY poster on a wall.
Hal is underrated as a director/writer.
Brilliant film. Fantastic music. The dance scene is iconic
One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite films
Saw it in 1995,in Yugoslavia....great!Amen!!!
You goals ia dissolved in 1991 🤥

That's a damn fact. He's awesome. But thrilled for Donovan that he's in "Tenet". Brilliant actor.
Good news! Hal's made five films since 1998. Martin was in one, Ned Rifle, in 2014.
@@coolhrv Yes and he seems to be producing a new one right now, but it may have been delayed by the covid crisis

@@coolhrv Ned Rifle was a guitarist named in the closing credits of Amatuer. Or was it this one, Simple Men?
Martin Donovan looks great with the stubble.
Complètement déjantée cette scène, j 'adore😉
renews my hope for the future whenever i watch it
Out of Jean Luc Godard's fucking shits, Hal Hartley made real cinema.
Nailed it, man.
Glad to find some people who see him for what he is lol

I CAN'T STAND THE QUIET!!!
1000th good now yeah
I CAN'T STAND THE QUIET!
woooow
@Gokinsmen I agree the dance scene in Surviving Desire is more better but it does have signs of being inspired by West Side Story.
It's inspired by Claude, Sami and Anna's dance from "Bande à Part". West Side is another matter no offense.

Bart & Lilly?
I like the dancing scene in Surviving Desire much more -- that one's more original and surreal (no music even!).
Wasn't she the foreman of construction in Schindler's list?
She was. Elina Lowensohn. Also in Nadja.
@@IvanaKalezic i don't like that fringe she looks much better with her hair long.
is that the girl from romeo void singing really sounds like her.
"Kool Thing" by Sonic Youth. Kim Gordon on vocals.

Great scene. If only the rest of Hal Hartley's films weren't so fucking boring, he could still have a career today.
oh dear.
