Yep. And that at relatively low speed. Been on a 250 ton passenger train once that went into emergency doing 140 km/h (87 mp/h) you just can't imagine what will happen and how it feels like. It's no joke and never wish to live through that again.

I can't comprehend why a person in a vehicle that "gets stuck" on a track with an oncoming train like this can't figure out they can use their big powerful car to move the flimsy signal arms out of the way so they can get off the track before the bigger and more powerful train smashes your car to bits.
From where it's sitting, there may be a car in front of the van, in front of the arms. Could also be true of behind. Also, could be driver panicked and froze (except, thank goodness, for getting out). The news stories say essentially nothing
If my car was on a track between two gates, my thoughts wouldn't be on fines or damages to gates. My thoughts would be getting the heck out of that situation before that train creams me. There is a stop light in front of them, and there may be a car - it slopes down to the right. Could be one sitting there waiting to turn right - at nearly every light in town, there is a No Turn on Red sign - but it looks like the traffic on the cross street keeps going, so their light must've been red - and with the slope of the road and the hedge, it's not clear if someone was there.

I am a retired Road Engineer off of the Union Pacific RR in New Orleans. It took from the impact at 0:39 to 1:50 to come to a complete stop. So the gross weight of each compartment is around 75 to 80 tons with two loaded containers. As compared to a loaded grain, coal, or oil train etc is 141.5 tons per car. After impact the three locomotives and 50 compartments crossed the roadway. So the train traveled about 3,400 to 3,500 feet after the impact before stopping. I believe the engineer had put the train in emergency before impact. Probably 300 to 500 feet before impact. I was listening for the emergency application but could not hear one. Time for some math someone mentioned it took 44 rail car lengths for it to come to a stop, I imagine those are 53-foot containers so the rail cars will be about 60-foot long. So that's half a mile right there in all likelyhood the engineer would have slammed on the brakes way before he hit the car so we will add a quarter of a mile for that. So this one took atleast 3/4 of a mile to stop.

@@seahorsecorral Even better still, don't drive across the railroad crossing unless you can make it safely to the other side in 20 seconds or less and never while the signals are active! I would say more than 1/4 of the crossing incidents I was involved with were people who stopped on the tracks at a red light adjacent to the crossing. The whole concept of leaving an intersection open in case conditions change is foreign to people. If it's a busy intersection, they will block it and cross traffic can't cross. If on the other hand it's a railroad crossing, I assure you the train is going to cross anyway.
Playing in Google found this from a news source, WFMY 2, "Police say Bustos didn't have a driver's license.", "Bustos was given two citations for No Operator's License and Obstruction of Railroad Crossing. "
VERY lucky to be alive! If you look closely someone is fleeing the car in the opposite direction from the train. This is exactly what you are supposed to do in this case. No matter what the reason for the car on the tracks, these people avoided serious injury and most likely death. This should be a great training video for Operation Lifesaver!
I had to look at this a few times and the description to see what happened. The trains hits the car and it flies like a kicked can at about 40 seconds into the video. I didn't see it at first because I was looking at the train. I don't blame the couple - it happened too fast for the logic to kick in.
I FIGURED IT OUT, it turns out the driver of the car didn't have a valid drivers licence (which probably means he came here illegally) and might have had a fear that if he broke the gate that there might be a camera watching him [turns out there was ;) ] and they might track him down and deport him.
If you look to the left closely, you can people climbing on the train to get to the other side when the train stopped, they were getting to the other side to see if the driver was okay.
Ethan the Railfanner yes Ethan they will definitely put up a new signal that's all a part of the higher speeds of trains and Crossing protection by reason of having quad Crossings for signals to on each side with full gate closure
Back up and likely have no barrier behind you... back up a little and then go around the barrier in front of you... or ram through the barrier do some damage that will be nothing like what will happen if a train hits it... or just let the train hit your car... oh the options.
The gates are mounted with a shear bolt allowing the gate to swing around and drop out of the way. Might put a scratch on your hood? To bad they didn’t know that. I’d say they are dead? RIP.
Oh nooo!!!.... I cant just push on through the gate!!... I might scratch my car!!!.... I'll just leave it here and let the train hit it!!....SMH ........ Ive seen a lot of videos like this. What are they thinking????
A train traveling at the average speed of 55 miles per hour needs a distance of at least 1 mile (5,280 feet) to stop once the emergency brakes are engaged. *Speed and distance will vary in most situations.*
boy that Crossing signal went flying backwards right onto the Main Street. that was a quad Crossing. looks like can't quite see that far down but there was a can of a Lear on the right side and just a gated assembly to the left that was just basically sent flying..

This is the type of video they need to show in drivers ed classes. Break the gates not your car, and don’t allow yourself to get stuck in the gates.
This is the type of accident that can wipe out your insurance policy, not to mention get you killed.
Better yet, everybody in drivers ed should learn to pull a trailer. That way they learn how to use their rear view mirror, and back up quickly.
Good Lord that is just like you are standing there.I have seen plenty of Train Crashes on Vidoe...but this is the realest on....that crash sound tho'!
I had to look at this a few times and the description to see what happened. The trains hits the car and it flies like a kicked can at about 40 seconds into the video. I didn't see it at first because I was looking at the train.
I don't blame the couple - it happened too fast for the logic to kick in.
*_As many have said, break the flimsy barrier and M O V E_*
even though you know whats going to happen, you just wish it wouldnt. i hate seeing this i hope i never witness this in person
Well the people got out so that good.
AWESOME footage! I absolutely LOVE that flat, solid sound at the moment if impact - in that split second before all the shattering and braking.
That s why I'm cautious to the the point of paranoia at crossings
What was being cut?
Car:What a nice day! *hears horn* Wha?
Train:hey there friend!
Car: * SCREAMS AND BLOWS TO PECIES*
Train: oops e daze
Car:*cries*
😂
nobody:
car: i will become one with the bush
Where in Thomasville is this Railroad Crossing located? What is the name of that Church next to the gas station? Tnx :)
0:45 love that horn in the distance
Yup agree
54 cars passed from the train hitting the car to stopping
Did everyone got out of the car?
First of all, if you watch closely you can see the person get out before the hit, with that said, that train RUINED the resale value of that car!
I FIGURED IT OUT, it turns out the driver of the car didn't have a valid drivers licence (which probably means he came here illegally) and might have had a fear that if he broke the gate that there might be a camera watching him [turns out there was ;) ] and they might track him down and deport him.
Another good video for drivers education.
it takes from 0:30 to 1:50 to stop. they should show this video to every teenager in driving school and every adult before they get their license.
Something kind of amazing seeing that much weight come to a stop that quickly
If you look to the left closely, you can people climbing on the train to get to the other side when the train stopped, they were getting to the other side to see if the driver was okay.
What kind of car was that…
here's your sign
the worry is that these sort of people drive on the same road as myself and others !!!!!!!
Bet the live stream was going nuts
Did the person survive that?
Yes, both were uninjured. Driver was cited for no drivers license.
I wonder if they are going to put up a new signal up there?
Ethan the Railfanner yes Ethan they will definitely put up a new signal that's all a part of the higher speeds of trains and Crossing protection by reason of having quad Crossings for signals to on each side with full gate closure
That is very scary I'm glad that no one got hurt though. Always pay attention to railroad crossings ALWAYS!
Is the locomotive okay?
Back up and likely have no barrier behind you... back up a little and then go around the barrier in front of you... or ram through the barrier do some damage that will be nothing like what will happen if a train hits it... or just let the train hit your car... oh the options.
The gates are mounted with a shear bolt allowing the gate to swing around and drop out of the way. Might put a scratch on your hood? To bad they didn’t know that. I’d say they are dead? RIP.
it looked like there was room for them to pull ahead, even pull ahead off the road, must have been panic, in addition to poor driving skills.
Oh nooo!!!.... I cant just push on through the gate!!... I might scratch my car!!!.... I'll just leave it here and let the train hit it!!....SMH
........ Ive seen a lot of videos like this. What are they thinking????
Maybe that they don't know what the barrier gates are made of?
Am I the only on enjoying the view of the abandoned siding!
I need a remake of this but with the conjunction junction music over it
That car said ⬆️↗️➡️↘️ ------
And you thought Germany fans had a bad day....
:-) Greetings from Germany!
If you think a train will stop for you it will....about a mile after it hits you
A train traveling at the average speed of 55 miles per hour needs a distance of at least 1 mile (5,280 feet) to stop once the emergency brakes are engaged.
*Speed and distance will vary in most situations.*
Anyone know what happened to the driver of the car.
It's in the comments above.
boy that Crossing signal went flying backwards right onto the Main Street. that was a quad Crossing.
looks like can't quite see that far down but there was a can of a Lear on the right side and just a gated assembly to the left that was just basically sent flying..
i have never seen this camera. is it new?
I cannot believe that train hit that car and it was located in thomasville NC
the car just sat there until the train hit the car
Couldn’t be bothered to move. The educational system is getting worse by the month.
